  1. If people are not interested in facts and truth, then having facts and truth is not an advantage. This is a huge problem in our country which perhaps overrides any other problem.

  3. and I will say it again - it's being fought 1st and foremost over turn out. The dems don't need to persuade a single soul that they don't like Trump. They only have to remind those that already think that way how important it is to vote the preference they already have. Too much media focus on what might or might not change minds - that's not the relevant battle. It's about motivating those whose minds you already have.

  5. Everyone will focus on that final play, and yea, Cade should've known the clock. But the real reasons they lost this game happened way earlier. Your starting Center can't be 4-10 with 2 turnovers and poor defense. He's been averaging 3 turnovers a game lately and doing some serious Drummond stuff with the ball. Your starting Shooting Guard can't continue to play like the rebirth of Killian Hayes. He's been horrendous in every facet of the game, from shooting to defense, over the past 14 games. Cade's getting blitzed on every screen and they have nobody else that can takeover a game because Ivey has gone into a massive slump. Not one of the starters could shoot the ball from outside and Miami plays a ton of zone which is designed to keep you out of the paint. There's zero movement off-ball in Monty's offense, so if you aren't hitting those low quality threes against the zone, then you're in trouble in this offense. It's been a problem all year and I don't expect Monty to figure out how to play against a zone anytime soon. Edit to add: More and more I think you've got to make a decision and move either Ivey or Duren this offseason while you can get good value for them. You can't afford to extend all of these players starting with Cade this offseason and then those two next offseason and Ausar the year after that. Not when your team is this bad. Doubling down on a 12 win team is a bad idea.

  6. Not to be a pessimist but recent mlb history suggests that by May 1st atleast 1 of the Tigers starters will either go down with an injury or be ineffective to the point that they need to be replaced so this sorta log jam will probably work itself out in due time.

  7. Great signing, he's exactly the guy I wanted the Lions to sign for a short term solution. Elite pass blocker. Still need a long term solution but couldn't think of a better short term solution. If Holmes does nothing else, this free agency period is a success but with all the talent on the receiver and safety market I would like to see one of those positions filled before the draft. Still need a #3 WR and a vet safety so either would suffice.

  10. Also it's a misunderstanding of the terrain upon which these elections are fought.... they aren't being fought over the die-hards, they are fought over swing voters and marginal voters in each party who are theoretically persuadable. I don't necessarily think that the truth or facts don't matter to everyone in this cohort.

  11. If you have my sheet bookmarked, yes. The whole system including cuts and 60 day IL spots to get down to 165. I just found out Huira's opt out today and may tweak later.

  12. yup - but that doesn't mean you don't make sure that you reach the people that are reachable. One of the postmortems of Hillary's loss was that they there were too willing to concede too many votes they could have won but decided weren't worth the effort to pursue. You really only know that was effective in retrospect.

  13. yeah - I don't get the 'trim the sails' advice. Play hardball and go for the jugular all the way. Today's elections are not Marquis of Queensberry affairs, esp going against Trump. Good Lord, when you have the massive advantage in facts and truth why would not hammer every point as hard as it can be hammered?

  14. There was plenty of gnashing of teeth this weekend about what he actually meant about the "bloodbath" comment (ie. ackshully, it's about the auto industry)... but I think that sort of misses the point.... the reality is that it's about his rhetoric and the fact that there is a history of it being inflammatory and leading to violence. And moments like that remind people. On another note, in the Evan Osnos profile of Biden's campaign in The New Yorker, they (particularly Mike Donilon) caught a lot of grief for saying that their campaign would be invoking themes around January 6th and democracy.... but this weekend is also a reminder that *Trump* will be invoking themes around January 6th too. Because of that, and because of the advantage that Biden/Dems have on issues surrounding it, it would be malpractice not to emphasize it at least to some degree while campaigning.

  16. So, we really have come to the point where, in ONE speech, in ONE day, we have a former president of these United States: 1. make his audience rise, and HONOR those Jan 6th criminals that he refers to as heroes/patriots/hostages - and sing. 2. refer to migrants as non-human /animals. 3. promise a bloodbath if he loses. ….. and it’s hardly made note of, or worse, excused. Have we been this desensitized that we wave a hand and wait for whatever bull**** he’ll spew tomorrow, without blinking? I am deeply worried. Horrified, actually. Scared.

  17. Cade has progressed nicely offensively this season so don't want to criticize him too hard but that was real braindead of him to not only not take the last shot but to hoist up a 3. It's that type of heroball that I wouldn't expect from him. Of course if Monty even cared one bit about coaching, he would have called a timeout to draw up a play and burn it into their brains that they need to be the ones taking the last shot not Miami. Just more Monty stuff in a long line of errors but I digress.

  19. A restructure doesn't take an extension off the table. The Lions now will have a $4.5 million cap hit next year even if Davis doesn't re-sign. They can roll that $4.5 million into a new signing bonus on a new contract.

  23. I don't think there's too much danger of a mid-season fold... but this is just one guys opinion. I don't have any inside information. They have TV deals with FOX and ESPN so there's at least some money backing them. From the merger now they're down to just the best 4 teams (from a marketing/sales perspective) from XFL and the USFL, so in theory there shouldn't be a lot of dead weight teams that are financially failing. The stadiums being used are mostly major stadiums as well, which lends some weight to the idea that they aren't a fly by night league playing in Div. III college stadiums. I did make the trip to one game last season at Ford Field (I'm over on the west side of the state) and it was a lot of fun. Not huge attendance my any stretch of the imagination, but it wasn't empty either. It was kinda nice being able to get up close without having to pay through the nose.

  25. If there is any meaningful pitching stat in Spring training, it would be walk rate. No matter what new things a pitcher is trying to do, too many walks is always a bad sign.

  26. Cade totally lost that game for them. Tie game shot clock off no reason to shoot it with 8 seconds left.

  27. Everything Miami has done on defense today is designed to make Cade expend energy. Every time he has the ball he is doubled, sometimes with a third defender in drop coverage spying on him. My favorite thing is Miami full court pressing when Cade brings it up. Williams apparently hasn't noticed this because Cade keeps bringing it up rather than letting someone else do it.
