I had a whole long reply to this typed up that I should have saved because I knew the server migration was coming, but I didn't. 😞 The short version is that the Spartan/Lions had a part to play in the NFL Championship game even existing. Prior to 1933 the NFL Champion was the team with the best record. In 1932 the Bears and Spartans both finished with the same winning percentage and the normal tiebreakers didn't work, so the league and the teams agreed to an additional game to decide the ultimate winner. This was officially a regular season game so doesn't count at a post season game. 1933 would see the first official playoff/Championship game. That 1932 "playoff" game is actually a wild story. If you haven't heard about it ready the wikipedia page here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1932_NFL_Playoff_Game The game had to be moved inside due to weather and was played on a "field" that just a few days earlier was used for a circus. Special rule changes had to be made, some of which persist through today!3 points

I thought you typed “yolks on them”. That would have been really egg-cellent.2 points

I'm still not convinced Ben Johnson is leaving. Idk I'm probably reading too much into things but just going by his demeanor and the fact he has turned down jobs the past 2 off-seasons make me think that he may be fine staying in his spot, especially if we give him a raise. The fact is not everybody is cut out or desires to be the Captain of the ship, maybe Johnson is one of those guys.2 points

Lions lead the league with 336 points scored. Baltimore is second with 334. Baltimore has played one more game than Detroit. Believe it or not, the Lions have allowed the fourth-fewest points in the league with 177. This team is a juggernaut.2 points

I just discovered this sub and holy cow is it good. Of course, it's probably good that I discovered it NOW vs. like 10 years ago. Anyway, if you haven't been there yet, check it out: https://www.reddit.com/r/NFCNorthMemeWar/ And if you find any really good ones, please share them here. Ya know... stuff like:1 point

Exposed for what? She has devoted of lot of time and energy to trying to poll accurately for several years. Why would she want to make herself look bad with an inaccurate poll? MAGAs have some strange logic.1 point

Wow! An SMR sighting in the football forums! And all Lions fans agree: Being a Jets fan right now is about the worst thing you can be.1 point

It’s pretty hilarious that Tommy Cutlets gets to finish the rest of the Giants season… it’s that only thing they have to look forward to. It could be worse…. If you are a Jets fan. 🙂 I’m glad I’ve pretty much stopped watching any area pro footballs games now for years.1 point

After this last game, the Lions are 5th in total yards. Keep in mind, 3 of the 4 teams ahead of the Lions have played 11 games. Lions are 3rd in yards per game. In terms of total points, the Lions are 1st, and the next 4 teams have played 11 games. The Lions have scored 57 more points than the next team with only 10 games played.1 point

I don't think any coach comes back to be lesser than they were the first time, but I do think Jim Schwartz burned a bridge here when he let his players carry him off the field after Buffalo beat the Lions.1 point

Well, he struggled with clock management at first, too. Many of his moves were questioned. And don't underestimate the decision to change offensive coordinators. That was as big a move as any other.1 point

I know I'm talking like it was ages ago when this happened... but do you remember when he first was our HC and there were so many talking heads who talked about how his aggressiveness was a poor coaching quality and how he needed to mature and understand when it's smart to not go for it? Now Campbell is a trend setter.1 point

The Tampa Bay game was a fluky loss. The Lions doubled them in team yards 463-216. They were just out of synch in the red zone that day. This team could very easily be 10-0 right now. The Lions are so ****ing good that the league should give Tampa Bay an automatic playoff berth just for beating them.1 point

9-1 is the best start in Lions franchise history dating back to the inaugural 1934 edition of the Detroit Lions, fresh off the move from Portsmouth. That 1934 squad, led by head coach Potsy Clark and QB Dutch Clark (no relation), started 10-0, not allowing a point on defense for the first seven games. They ultimately fell to a disappointing 10-3 finish, losing twice in the last three games to the undefeated Chicago Bears. In true Bears fashion though, they lost the NFL Championship 30-13 to the New York Giants. Some things never change.1 point

Between the ball being placed at the 30 and kickers increasingly hitting 55-60 yard kicks, FG drives aren’t what they used to be.1 point

Maybe they wouldn't need to lower CC interest rates if they educated the populace about the negative results of CC debt.1 point
