  2. Signing Skubal to anything beyond a 6-year deal would be reckless. Let’s enjoy him for his prime and let some other team pay him for his decline.

  3. Every team always has to be planning for the replacement of every player at some point. It's only ever a difference of when, not if. It seems recently the value of rentals or guys with short control seems to have dropped to the point that you get more total value out of just keeping the player through the final year yourself, take the best advantage you can of the high value low cost proposition through that last year and just plan for the loss. Maybe that won't be true with SKubal and the Tigers get a good deal, or maybe he signs, but I won't be surprised or disappointed if they just keep him through to his FA and then let him walk. I used to think that was bad management but I've changed my mind about it.

  4. Striking out with a runner at 3rd base and less than 2 outs is inexcusable. Start benching these overpaid primadonnas. 🤨🤨

  8. They can’t keep losing forever. I’m optimistic they’ll win this game.

  9. I think the bad management comes from what stage of competing you are in. If you are playoff bound but smaller market then it makes sense to keep them as long as possible then let them walk to try and win it all. if you are not competitive then it’s probably malpractice to let them walk and not trade for additional assets.

  10. Can you imagine what it was like playing in Dallas in the first third of the 20th century when it was all day games and heavy wool uniforms?

  11. Ezra Klein did his podcast this week with Will Sommer whose theory is that the whole Esptein, sexual predator, child-sacrificing-satanic-ritual-liberal-cabal running the world MAGA idee fixe is one that at least certain segments of MAGA will not be able to let Trump 'move on' from. I think what he describes is probably accurate for some segment of MAGAland, the important question though is how much of MAGAland - and I don't think anyone has much handle on that until it plays out. NYT is paywalled but they used to allow a freebie or two per month to guests. IDK if that is still true. https://www.nytimes.com/2025/07/17/opinion/ezra-klein-podcast-will-sommer.html?searchResultPosition=2

  12. They're hard to watch when they don't pitch, play defense or score any runs. It's like....what's the point, just judge their uniform color choices?

  13. But at the start of 2027, Skubal will be 30 years old. I know he has tree-trunk legs like Nolan Ryan... and maybe he has zero health issues during a 10-year contract... But is that the best risk for the Tigers Organization? 10 years of Skubal at $40-50 mill per annum at ages 30-39? Can we pay him $52 mill per year for six years so $312 Mill ages 30-35? I would do that... but would Skubal/Boras? The years, even though he's a stud, is the most difficult part. And with a young core coming up, Jobe not even a full year... It looks REALLY attractive to do a timeline reset while STILL remaining playoff-competitive with a Painter-Jobe+ or a Sheehan-Jobe+ rotation. We would be playoff capable in 2026 with either of those packages. And I think we would receive a haul with Skubes. 3 highly regarded pitchers and a couple position players/ studs (depending on the package...)? I'm just guessing... But I am very open for a "reload" if it makes the most sense for the Org. My 2 cents.

  14. It’s weird seeing the Rangers play inside. I get why they have a roof. But I really liked the old place from a watching the game on TV and enjoying the visual standpoint of things.

  16. there is a long lockout coming in 2027, as the owners wants a harder cap and the players are not going to cave on that. not impossible to believe that Skubal decides to sign before end of 2026 World Series, if he thinks new CBA will be more friendly to younger players and less friendly to superstars. maybe that creates an opening

  19. It doesn't help when the anchor of your lineup goes from 362/404/676 in the month before the July 2 DH, to 167, 212, 458 since that second game. A drop that sudden to a level so far below his norm has to make you wonder if he is trying to play through something he maybe shouldn't.

  25. I love the Tigers road jerseys. They are not the stoic block lettered ones from when I was a kid in the 60s, but they harken back to the 30s 40s and 50s and they’re really classy.

  27. This is what I was talking about with the Beasley situation. All that to lay $13K? He most likely had to use multiple accounts, which means you need multiple people to sign up. You would need to be like +800 to win $100K in that scenario. You lose a third of your winnings to the people that signed up for you. They want a cut, plus enough to cover their tax bill. And Rozier made $25 million last season, or just over $300k per game. I guess if you're broke, it doesn't matter how much you make per game. Also, no way you don't get caught. Old school betting with live bookies, maybe you get away with it. On an app where computers can chew on the betting patterns? No chance.
