I don't get why Hinch didn't do something else? All he had to do was something other than what he did and the Tigers win.2 points

I wish baseball allowed teams to have pitchers that can get outs after the 6th inning. Weird rule but whatever.2 points

For a front office that is so tough to deal with, they sure made a lot of trades (8) with several different teams (7) leading up to the deadline.2 points

So, on a serious note, maybe some of the carping and complaining forgets to take into consideration that there is a varsity team in the other dugout, and this series is, as you said, against a really good team and on the road.1 point

Statistical bonuses are allotted based on % of that stat accumulated with each team. There's a minor bug in my table, but I will address that once Paddack or Montero hit their numbers. Postseason/award bonuses are allotted based on when they happen. The Tigers are on the hook for whatever percentage of the stat came with them. I found out last year, these are paid out at the end of the year, not when triggered, to avoid constant denominator changes.1 point

The good thing is that for me in the mountain time zone this game begins at 2:05 PM which is pretty much perfect.1 point

Of course I'm being facetious here... KC and Philly always seem to end up with players nobody thought they'd get. I think it's probably 50/50 now between Dallas and the field. "My trade request was submitted to Stephen Jones personally." Parsons leaves a bit of room here for Jerry to swoop in and get something done.1 point

I'm ambivalent about the Bristol Track game. After all the Dodgers played their first couple of years in the LA Coliseum. Left field fence was 250 feet away (with a 40 foot screen) it was about 300 feet.. BTW the Field of Dreams field was not the same location as the movie field. They moved it about 100 yards or so and turned it around a bit to get the house in the camera shots. Now if they played during a race, that would be something...1 point

As for non-contenders, Pittsburgh and Colorado had a wild one. Pittsburgh had a 9-1 lead after the 1st inning. 16-10 going into the 8th inning. Colorado won 17-16!1 point

There is a silver lining—all of our minor league teams have won/are winning. <ducks>1 point

Wouldn’t it be some s**t if this Bristol game got rained out after all that’s gone into the planning and work!1 point

The thing is that, politically, so much of how people view the economy runs off of vibes anyway... and like Biden before him (who never could outrun 9% inflation in 2022 despite many good jobs reports), his vibes are in the toilet. Also similar to COVID as well.... people built an impression of him, and he never did outrun it (even with Operation Warp Speed and some other successes).1 point

Difficult to deal with aka stuck with their valuations of their players and those on the block, and didn't budge. Sounds like the same execs that complained last year about the Flaherty trade. I think, given the last year and the overall results of the team and farm, Harris would have earned some trust from this fan base. They had a plan and executed on that plan. It reminds me of the draft where they selected players who may not have had the circuit track record of others but they saw something they liked and went with it. I am good with that. Finding an edge or what you believe is an edge and going with it. It may not work, but I like the creativity. Overall I would have preferred other players but it sounds like Pirates wanted Briceno for Bednar which I just wouldn't do either and I am guessing other teams were also asking for similar from us.1 point

Cody is a pretty negative dude most of the time. Just needs to get laid. If Harris and Avila represent a spectrum of being difficult to trade with, Im on Team Scotty.1 point

Difficult to deal with must mean not wanting to part with a top 75 prospect for a 31 year old reliever.1 point

I am not especially thrilled with what they got at the deadline, but I don't know what it would have cost to obtain more impactful players. I don't think they significantly impoved their chances of going all the way this year, but how do you do that? There was no urgent need because they have such a big lead and the teams in back of them aren't really trying to win. I think the post-season is mostly a crapshoot, so I am not in favor of selling the farm just for what might turn out to be one series.1 point

As much as I agree with all of this, I would like to have gotten a swing-and-miss strikeout guy at the back of the pen, which we don’t have now. Brock Stewart for Akil Baddoo might have worked, since Akil has more upside than James Outman (I would think?). Maybe Paul Seward will come back next month and be that guy, I don’t know. But it looks like Harris identified a bunch of guys in volume, all of whom do something really well and we think we can patch up the other things they lack in enough to get two-plus months of good to great performance from them. And we kept all of our top prospects, which I think is a very good thing considering, as you say, we are way way ahead in the division and practically assured of a tournament run. If the division were close, especially with the Guards, we might have seen some more aggressive moves. It could be argued that we are prospect hoarding the way the Orioles did last year, and they came into the season as a favorite for the pennant (on par with the Tigers), and look how that’s gone. So it remains to be seen how that will transpire over the next year or two. In the end, I think this is about building a sustainable winner, our lack of progress toward this being something a lot of us (especially me) had been whining about during the last several years of the Avila Reign of Error. There will always be All-In Guys among us and we’re going to hear from them, and you know what? That’s great. That’s entertaining. Philosophical conformity is boring. So let’s argue about this some more. 😁1 point
