Harris doesn’t strike me as a guy who does things to appease the fans. He’s smart. His staff is smart. They have talked with Boras about a deal. It would be stupid not to. Don’t spend money until you have to. There will be no hometown discounts. There will be no buying our arb years up front. He’s going to test the open market. It’s his right and obligation to his fellow players. They all know the risks. There’s nothing we can come up with that they don’t already know or have considered. If the team is not competitive next year then they could move him them. If they are then they use him up and wish him well.3 points

Presley died 48 years old this week. The night he died, my parents, my three siblings and I got washed out of a KOA campground in Lake Placid, NY. We packed up the tent in a torrential downpour at 2am and piled into our car and hoofed it out of there towards Vermont. The first half hour on the radio was one Elvis song after another, commercial-free. I remember thinking, hmm, I didn’t know Elvis was so huge in NY state. Then the DJ came on and explained to listeners like me that the King was dead.2 points

The king doesn’t need permission. He takes what he wants. Our laws don’t apply to him.2 points

Active roster plus IL spots as of August 31 are eligible. Anybody in the organization can be a replacement for a player from that pool who is injured.2 points

And yet, since nobody did offer Correa 300M, Al would have been pretty irresponsible to over offer the market. If anything , it was Carlos that made the mistake, not Al. I don’t blame the Tigers for Carlos not understanding his own market value.2 points

Skubal will pitch for the Tigers next year, he will receive a qualifying offer in the offseason and will sign with the highest bidder. We will probably survive.1 point

I grew up about 30 miles east of the city, or at least until I was 12. Most of the relatives have either moved or passed on. My wife had a conference there last fall and it was in line with a planned vacation. Fort Ligonier, Fort Pitt. I was 8 when Mazeroski hit the home run to beat the Yankees in 1960. The city is nicer than I remembered. I really like the feel of PNC, been there a few times now. And I still sort of root for the Buccos1 point

Baby boomers are a huge voting block. It's a death sentence to any political party that tries to take SS away 100%. There may be a cut in benefits and they may raise the retirement age but they'll never eliminate SS.1 point

Statement on how long the rebuild took. They have a chance for a trio of 30+ guys this year1 point

Of course they had the room stacked with right wing media during Trump's rambling new conference so nobody could actually ask real questions.1 point

VG is pretty transparent. Our IRA’s are with VG as well. Like most reputable fund companies, VG lists the holdings of all their funds and the weight of each holding. Anytime the words “complex” and “sophisticated” are associated with an investment, AVOID!1 point

I have a friend who moved there. If I lived there, I’m sure I’d go to a lot of games and get into the local team. He only goes there when the Padres play because he grew up in San Diego, which I get. I guess the experience of baseball isn’t as seminal for him as it is for a lot of the rest of us.1 point

My wife and I traversed to Pittsburgh last week to see the Giants and Pirates three game series. Verlander pitched last Monday and left the game after five innings with a 4-1 lead. The one run Pittsburgh had at that point was unearned. The bullpen blew the game and the Pirates won 5-4 in bottom of the ninth, walk off style. It’s been something all year with JV. He’ll pitch well, no run support. He’ll have games where he’s just really bad. And there have been four games that I recall, including last week, where the bullpen blows the game after he leaves. We did enjoy finally getting to attend some games in PNC Park. As Jim would say, “Nice area.” Nice folks there as well.1 point

Pox doesn't come close to describing how stupid this is. The first obvious problem is private equity has no transparency - they are private - DUH! From Vanguard; Private Equity [bold mine] Footnote 2; Ain't that great? Giggle. They keep finding ways to fleece us. To your second paragraph, I couldn't agree more, but it is in conflict with the first one. They still wouldn't know how to manage it. To be honest, the ones I dealt with while employed didn't give me a bunch of choices as far as timing and choice anyway. In other words - run and hide. The whole ****ing thing is a giant scam.1 point

I don't think his Evangelist supporters would like it. They generally don't like swear words. It's OK when Trump uses them because it's Trump being Trump and he has to to talk tough because the whole world is against him. Plus, he is saving America and Christianity, so they are able to tolerate swear words. I don't think they want their chidren using those words though.1 point

This is a pox on average investors. The great majority of workers that contribute to 401k plans know little to nothing about what they’re invested in. Far too many are auto enrolled because they won’t do it themselves. They’re the ones that will likely suffer the most. They’re not financially literate enough to follow their accounts and police them. These folks are going to get rolled. The fees will cost them bigly. They won’t know the difference. I am so glad we are retired. Prior to this destructive move, I have always suggested folks get their retirement account into a personal brokerage account when leaving a job. Don’t leave it with an employer.1 point

Thx. I just can’t see the Tigers tying up hundreds of millions of dollars for numerous years which would make it harder for them to do all sorts of other things, especially when it’s a pitcher and pitchers are so prone to injury. I mean, position players are prone to enough injuries as it is.1 point

And his public loves him for it. I saw a children's book the other day - just an ordinary heavy cardboard cover, two sentence on a page, illustrated 1st grade kind of book about a kid being a pain at home. It was full of the 'F' word. Completely normalized as how children and their parents should talk to one another. We're doomed.1 point

Cody Stavenhagen seemed to assume as much on his Friday pod. Once rosters expand, he alluded to the fact that Lee had as good of a chance as anyone else to grab one of those spots. I don’t know. Maybe he’ll have earned it on the field by then. But that might not be the Tigers’ need at that point. I’m not saying Stavenhagen is wrong. But with the failures of the bullpen and the number of arms brought in, that might mean those spots are taken by relievers to figure out via September audition who makes a playoff roster.1 point

I came across an Artie Kendall video (The ghost crooner from Conan who used to be in the studios in the 30's and sings offensive songs of his time.) It was amazing how, 20 years later, they are less funny, because things like this are just flat out spouted by the GOP these days.1 point

Every so often when I hear his name in the headlines, I think about how he wrote the book as one version of JD Vance and, when faced with his political ambition and the need to pivot, conveniently uninstalled that version from his hard-drive and installed a version 2.0. Just one of the phoniest human beings alive.... no core convictions, no beliefs, no personality.1 point
