I'm not going to let a bunch of unidentified agents capture me without a warrant or identifying themselves. And nobody else should either. This **** has to stop.6 points

It should upset everyone that masked people can get away with just snatching people off the street. It should be very clear to everyone who's around who they are and what their official business is. This is not a police state.6 points

It's worth remembering that ICE has detained actual American citizens during the course of conducting themselves this way. Every single time it happens is a failure and is unacceptable. And should be treated as such5 points

As much as people talk about COVID, but one thing that impacted the 2020 election (and perhaps a reason he lost) was that he spend SO much time trashing mail voting. And suppressing GOP votes. And the GOP, understanding that they were the ones that invented the practice and until recent years tended to put elections on ice utilizing it, managed to get him to shut his pie hole about it in 2024 (an election he managed to win) Also, the "states as an agent of the Feds" line is rich.... I don't ever want to hear about "small government conservatism" ever again from anyone representing this movement.4 points

To be frank... unless his warrants are for serious felonies, this is a waste of government resources in the extreme. I'd rather the be used for a range of other activities than this made up concern troll about this person being a problem for the purity of our american essence.3 points

What pissed me off was when he said: "liberals already ruined the country". I am aware that law enforcement tends to be heavily biased in favor of the right, but they can't be expressing that as they do their jobs. That entire arrest should be voided due to bias. Of course, in today's world, he wil commended instead of reprimanded.3 points

I think this is right.... and I think the same electorate that, yes, gave Donald J. Trump the victory in last years election did not expect the most maximalist, Stephen Miller-esque posture from the incoming administration either. You see it in polling data and how their numbers on immigration enforcement saw their biggest collapses after Kilmar Abrego Garcia and after LA. The reality is that while people do not like illegal immigration and expect people to try and legally migrate, they expected an enforcement regime that would be centered on removing *criminals* from the streets. Instead, they are getting an enforcement regime that is interesting in juicing the stats as much as humanly possible in order to meet unrealistic quotas for deportation (2 million in a year).... which in turn means they aren't focusing on criminals, but anybody and everybody they can possibly get their hands on, and doing so in a dragnet style, shooting first and asking questions later (metaphorically speaking). No freaking wonder people are pissed off. If you wanted to fix this from a policy perspective, the median position is to do a good job on the border (which again, Trump has done just looking at the stats) and to provide way to adjudicate those that are here without legal status (including some like dreamers who didn't even make the choice themselves) in a way that is reasonably fair, doesn't **** up the economy, etc., which these guys decidedly have NOT done.2 points

I'm on your side that they are illegal immigrants. There is a full spectrum on this board on how to deal with that, ranging from invite more to come to deport them without even bothering to let anyone know we scooped them off of the street. Speaking on behalf of others, without their consent, my guess is most are along the lines that they are already here, mostly good people trying to make a living, and unless they do something additional to warrant deportation, give them a path to citizenship. Where the push back from most of the people on this board, including myself, is how far the pendulum swung from an administration that seemingly invited folks to come in (I know some will reject that statement) to the current administration that is fine diverting money away from tracking down tax cheats, white collar criminals, and even many of your basic governmental services in order to find people that are trying to become citizens and abiding by the rest of our laws. Additionally, when we see legitimate stories about actual citizens or others here legally that are detained (even deported) for days, even weeks at a time, it doesn't make me feel confident that this administration cares about making mistakes as long as the deportation numbers look 'bigly'. If you lean towards the conservative side and hated voting for Kamala (just like me), I would expect you to hate the idea of the government detaining/deporting citizens because of their incompetence.2 points

It's not obvious to me because there have been numerous cases where they have detained or deported people who should not have been detained or deported. I would hope that the majority of violent arrests involved dangerous criminals, but mistakes have been made. The fact that that one of the officers was politicizing the arrest as it was happening makes me think he was not professional enough for the job.2 points

Galaga, you're not entirely wrong that many of the reports have been blown out of proportion, but if the base of your party makes fun of 'face diapers', but celebrate and defend when their law enforcement is wearing masks, maybe you should reassess your position.2 points

It's a poor use of resources to be specifically targeting people with no criminal convictions. It potentially takes resources away friom other areas which are more of a threat to our safety.1 point

Wearing a sash that says simply POLICE is not identification. If they are wearing masks and nothing that reveals their names while rounding up a million people in year, and they refuse to identify themselves when asked by citizens, then the masked men are unidentified and thus unidentifiable, which allows them to act in a way which absolves them of accountability, which, not for nothing, is how police states operate.1 point

More from the Cato report It's one thing to arrest and deport convicted criminals. Another to target people who are actually working and doing "jobs other Americans don't want to do" to paraphrase another Republican Party President.1 point

It's not our homework. It is your responsibility as the claimant to provide evidence of your claim. We don't need you to drop your squirrels and do provide us your link right away, but you do have to do it if you want us to believe your claim. take your time, we'll still be here. Thank you for your attention to this matter.1 point

It'd sure help if they'd take the masks off.... police officers in my village and state don't wear them, why should these guys be wearing them?1 point

Watching that video, that level of force on an unarmed food delivery driver is completely outrageous. Doesn't matter whether they are here illegally or not, that interaction did not need to happen that way and the fact that it did is 100% the responsibility of the agents involved and of this administration. They deserve every bit of criticism they are getting for it.1 point

I will only push back a little bit and say that The Bulwark has done a really good job of hiring actual reporters (ie. Sam Stein, Jonathan Cohn on the health care issues, Adrian Carrasquillo on Latino issues, etc.) that do actual journalism as well as (if not better) than mainstream publications. It's not all just "resist lib takes" The rest of it is a mixed bag to me. Tim Miller doesn't bother me and is at least self-aware about his reach, but some of the other folks (particularly Jonathan V. Last) are kinda worthless to me. They don't accomplish anything and, if anything, their doomerism about everything is perhaps counterproductive even.1 point

I think anybody on the lists for the first 15 rounds have mastered that to a certain degree. The point I was trying to make is I don’t see it as a drafting skill if you got an MLB guy in round 7 because if the team before you picked him I don’t see it as a guarante he makes it. I’m not saying its all random but outside of the top 5 picks and the can’t miss players that fall thru the cracks, like a piazza, it’s your dev ops that will sustain you.1 point

That, and because of propaganda from the people who are benefiting from the new technology cutting into their bottom line.1 point

I hate to say it because I know many here read them and post about them but the folks from places like Bulwark aren't really accomplishing anything. I'm not suggesting they have a job to do to elect democrats but their readers and viewers have to realize that just talking about things in a way that's framed from a pre trump world will not reach the required people to the degree to win elections. I'm talking about sunday talk shows, nightly talk shows, etc. We can preach all we want about how horrible he is and his admin is but you need a D congress to begin to attack it. As long as they rubber stamp his ideas then they will become laws. The game plan different now. The scoring system is different. It's cricket vs baseball.1 point
