  2. That's the dirty little secret about capitalism - the more money you have, the easier it is to make more. You actually have to be aggressively foolish to lose a fortune under any conditions less than an general economic collapse like 1929. That's why long term successful capitalist societies must have a lot of progressive taxation and spending on public goods and social capital (health and education etc) - otherwise the trend into oligarchy/banana republicism is a built in inevitability.

  5. I think you have to trade him before training camp if he doesn't sign before then, because A) you risk him getting injured before the deadline, and B) you have a larger pool of suiters in the off season. The longer you wait, the less you're likely to receive in return for him.

  6. You were not in the room or on the phone calls or privy to any of the negotiations. You fail to grasp that moves in baseball require the consent of two parties to agree. This isn’t a video game. “He didn’t do what I imagined in my head he could do” is not a valid criticism

  7. and the inverse to this is that duty always ends up falling to Seider, which he is certainly good at, but it's also a waste of his other skills to have him playing a stationary game at the goal front so much.

  9. They also need to make the audio between NY command center and field officials available after the fact. If they want to put to bed any notion that they might be in cahoots with the bookies who are now their biggest sponsors.

  10. As always, it is disappointing when the refs pull points off of the board. It would have been a different game had they not. Also, ASB catches that pass 999 times out of 1000. It is a different game if he catches it. Apart from that, it seems like the front seven was a lot less aggressive tonight than they were against the Ravens. Was that by choice given the depleted secondary, or was it that they just did not have time to get home? Probably a bit of both. Hopefully Alim is back for TB to juice the pass rush. Then we can get healthy over the bye.

  13. You have to hang onto him because you just made the playoffs and are in position to contend next year. Trading Skubal right now would be lunacy. If he gets hurt, you can sign him at a discount.

  15. I had a 6th row seat to that entire nonsense. Ref and sideline official came together, discussed for 30 seconds, separated. Come back together at the spot of the ball for the XP. Ref nods, then pulls a flag. That call coming from upstairs is a blatant violation of NFL rules.

  16. I truly don’t understand where this narrative came from about Scott Harris being “afraid”. Especially when you consider he’s been in charge for only 3 seasons and they made the playoffs in 2 of them. It’s an urban legend with no basis in reality.

  24. I would argue a capitalist system doesn't bail out swine ****ing bankers to the tune of trillions (or anyone else for that matter). But that's what the whores in DC get paid to do. The financial blowup of 2008/2009 was one of the greatest wealth transfers to the .01% in history.

  26. Granderson and Jackson were not rentals. That trade was not made because Dombrowski needed to get something for Granderson/Jackson before they walked. It was made because, in part, because Dombrowski liked Scherzer and Jackson (I think especially Scherzer at the time the trade was made) better than Granderson and Jackson.

  27. was the Cabrera deal done virtually when he arrived? I guess I'd wouldn't mind seeing MLB add 'Sign and Trade' as an allowed option. I think it would give teams losing players better return on their loses and thus would be a parity help and I don't see that the union should complain - I don't think it would make deals any smaller. Plus you know there has to be back door stuff going on under the table anyway - you can't break human nature.

  28. A couple bounces earlier in the game go our way and it could’ve been a much different score. Mahomes fumble that bounces right back to him and weak pass interference call along with not catching a 4th down conversion. With that said the lions defense allowed to many extra yards on tackles that allowed the Chiefs to have short 3rd down plays which we stopped but then easy 4th down conversions to extend drives killed them early.

  33. Painter's 16 overall, Miller is 32 overall and Crawford is 50. (Phillies prospects whose match is perfect with Tigers). Even if we kick back a prospect like Hamm or Anderson, I'd still do that..... Just makes too much sense.

  36. If the new cba negotiations go well and they have a 2027 season. I'd prefer they sign Skubal as well. I understand the risk. It was frustrating to see Max, JV, Porcello go on and win WS elsewhere

  40. Re: CF Looking at all his numbers, Parker looks like the guy there should be a decent chance to fix. His fall off is all about too many GBs. He hasn't fallen off on K rate or BB, or much of anything else except he hit too many grounders this season. I would guess that's related to the league pitching him down, but wouldn't you think a competent coaching staff could at least get him into the position he needs to be in to cover the low pitch better?

  41. One worry, but not enough to not want to offer. Like I said, it would work itself out. And that 20 year old AA player is the best Tigers hitting prospect of my lifetime. Look around at teams who busted out in recent years and see how many of them are because a prospect or two broke onto the scene.

  42. I only worry about blocking McGonigle, but that seems like something that would work itself out. The pick they would get would be a pretty good one, assuming the Tigers are still getting Rev Share money and get a Compensation 1 Round pick, which would nominally be 32nd to 34th depending on if the Dbacks offer Zac Gallen or Drake Baldwin wins the Rookie of the Year. The Phillies, Yankees, Blue Jays, and Dodgers are all in the CBT Penalty box and their pick moves back 10 spots, so they will all move behind the theoretical compensation pick the Tigers get. If the Mets don't win a lottery pick, then they are in the bonus too and their (likely 17th, very slight possibility 18th) pick moves back 10 spots too.

  43. Great, entertaining season. They need to figure out why they were Jekyll and Hyde two years in a row. That's why Harris and Hinch get paid the big bucks. They need to prevent that. I understand there are losing streaks but this was the tale of two different teams both seasons.

  45. So I hear there’s a little game in Los Angeles on Saturday. It’s a got to have it game for both teams. Probably a little more for USC because the schedule is harder. Whoever loses here will need a to have a significant upset victory and some additional outside help to get in the playoff. SC had a week off to get healthy and make tweaks. Hard to tell from the box scores but the defense is actually quite better than past years. CB was the weak spot coming into the year and it’s been decimated with injuries. Freshman forced into the lineup that shouldn’t be playing yet have been abused. Michigan has had a slow start developing its receivers but made strides last week so this is probably a good matchup for both teams. The front 7 has been great but lacks discipline and is prone for dumb penalties and the occasional missed assignment. That plays right into UM hands as one of the RB’s will almost certainly pop a long one before the end of the day. The OL has been solid and that’s opened up the offense. QB looks legit and has a ton of high end skills but then again at times so did Miller Moss, Kedan Slovis, JT Daniels, and on and on. He could end up a star but he’s got to keep doing it on Saturdays. Makai Lemon is Puka Nacua. He’s currently outplaying Jeremiah Smith and Carnell Tate as the best WR in the conference. He’s been doing it without Jakobi Lane fully healthy on the other side. Lane is supposedly 100% after the week off. Toughest test on the schedule for the Michigan DB’s. This is a game that SC should win at home against a team that doesn’t feature the pass with an inexperienced QB. The problem is that Lincoln Riley teams just don’t close. In fact, they straight out choke when the game is on the line. Riley has coached 45 games at USC and amazingly he has lost 8 games where they were tied or ahead with 2:00 to go in the game. It’s hard to fathom. Just like last year, Michigan comes back and wins a game they had no business winning. Michigan 37 USC 35
