  3. I'm with SF on this one. You seem to be focusing on "they get no respect because they are Detroit" but that's not the issue. Every athlete is more pumped to play better competition, the uniform and the city don't figure at all, 24-7 is all that figures. That's always the team you want to show you are better than.

  4. and Jose Altuve has hit 30 hr twice at 5'6". There probably is no pro sport were physical tools are less connected to actual performance than baseball. I'm not saying they aren't connected, but that in baseball, other skills like ball path perception (i.e. fly ball judgement), anticipation, soft hands, and of course your perceptual hard wiring as a hitter, are all as important as, and unrelated to, raw athleticism.

  5. That's a lot of words to say, "I F***ed up. This is on me." JB is a great coach when it comes to making bad teams very good, building a culture, and putting in an overall scheme. He's not good at lineup management or any sort of in-game strategy. He's what I thought Monty would be: An amped up version of Casey. The in-game Xs and Os probably aren't fixable unless you get him a really good play-calling assistant coach. However, these lineup screw-ups seem like they should be correctable if he would just own it and realize his mistakes. It's not rocket science. It's as simple as, "Defense is how we win and we're giving up too many points tonight, so let's play our best defenders instead of sitting them down the stretch."

  6. It's fine to ride a hot unit in crunch time. But when it's a tie game with the shot clock off, you better have your best defenders in the game.

  7. Anybody ever try Randy Johnson pitching to Joe Morgan in Stratomatic or OOTP or backyard wiffleball? Please post your findings.

  8. Unless any of the following apply to each of you, you’re not really in any position to critique the guys height as a projectable limitation: -Professional scouting or analytics experience -Observed a minimum of 50 McGonigle plate appearances -Own and regularly play Strat-a-Matic -Currently live in your parents basement -Have recently enjoyed an extended stay at a Holiday Inn Express. McGonigle will rake—if he does it while playing SS, he will be a superstar.

  11. Another Bregman article in the Detroit Free Press today in an attempt to rile up fans. Some Baseball Savant comparisons: Bregman: 18 HRs in 495 plate appearances, Batting Run Value 79 Percentile, Arm Strength 36 percentile, Fielding Run Value 72 percentile, Base Running Value 15 percentile Keith: 14 HRs in 468 plate appearances, Batting Run Value 53 Percentile, Arm Strength 31 percentile, Fielding Run Value 28 Percentile, Base Running Value 89 Percentile Bregman has benefited from playing home games in stadiums with a short left field porch tailored to his heavy pull swing. In Comerica Park, Bregman's and Keith's 2025 HRs per plate appearance numbers would be similar. Hopefully Keith can continue to gain back arm strength - before his injury Keith's arm strength was highly rated. Keith takes a hit in Fielding Run Value because of the number of games he played at DH in 2025 (There is a negative positional adjustment in the FRV calculation for games played at DH)

  13. Similar to other ballplayers in that he is bound by gravity and the natural boundaries of the humanoid form. Also, his need to breath and lack of sight in several light spectra.

  17. I'm only half joking, but doesn't anyone EVER look at a calendar when they plan that stuff? 🙂 I know, I know... I think it was 2012. The Tigers were in the playoffs and I had to go to a wedding. Girlfriends daughter was the MOO. She told me about it, and the first thing I checked was the game times. Sure enough, wedding was OK, but the reception was during the game. I couldn't get out of it. I warned her right up front - I WILL find a way to watch this game - just so you know. She was a Tiger fanatic so she was good with it. We get to the reception hall. Rectangle room with a partition toward one end. I went snooping behind the curtain and sure enough there was a bar and some tables back there. At the end of the bar was a TV. Oh, goody! So I wander in there expecting to get kicked out because the only people in there were the workers taking care of the food and drink for the wedding in the other room. Hi! I want to make you a deal. I really really need to watch the baseball game tonight, and if you can get that on for me you all will have a very nice night, if you know what I mean, as a threw a $20 bill on the bar. They were all for that, so I sit down at the end of the bar, they turned on the TV, and we were good. I kept tipping them all night as they brought me beers. Everything was cool, and we were having a ball. Until... IIRR, close game, maybe 8th inning some jerk and his wife comes wandering back there. Guy says to one of the workers "hey, there is a football game on." I says, no there isn't. Yes there is. Nope. Yea, channel X. Nope not happening. I was getting worried. This guy was getting pissed. One of the workers comes over and tells this guy "we are not allowed to change the TV on orders by the boss so it stays on the baseball game." Ha! Thank you very much as the guy left and I tossed another $10 bucks on the bar. Probably cost me 50 bucks to watch the game but I watched it. They lost... And the rest of the story. Everything got over and I was, lets say, a little tipsy. I then find out, of no surprise to me, the car we rode to the reception no longer had a driver (these were highly educated people - go figger). Shouldn't be a problem until they figured out it was a stick and nobody could drive it. Can you drive a stick? Why yes, yes I can, but I am also 3 sheets into the wind. Well you are the only one who can drive a stick and these 4 people need to be taken home - all over Columbus, Ohio - no less. Thanks assholes... I somehow made it. Don't ever ask me to a wedding again.

  21. Eh. Whether they end 2-4 or 1-5 in the division, you don’t deserve to be in. And they’d get back handed by any of the NFC West opponents they might play.

  22. If Colt Keith's throwing arm does not get injured again, and the Tigers can stop playing musical chairs with his fielding position, I think Colt will be fine at third base. He is an above average athlete - his base running value on baseball savant is in the 89 percentile. He is not a Castellanos, Malloy, or Jung. Colt has played the majority of his innings as a professional at third base. Colt is already an above average MLB hitter (107 OPS+) and getting better. Contrary to what media talking heads are saying, the Tigers have every reason to provide opportunities for Colt to improve over the next 7 years on a team friendly contract - as opposed to paying Bregman $200 million and watch the 30 something decline over the next 7 years.
