This right here is the perfect illustration for why the tigers were never going to trade Skubal for the oft-mentioned “three top prospects” this offseason. Everyone that likes to dabble in speculation and hypothetical deals that the tigers could have made, have at it. You can safely say that the tigers could have traded Skubal for this return right here. If you want to replace Sproat with Tong and make it straight up for Skubal with no RP attachment, I’ll allow it (although that could still be pushing it). We now know what a win-now team like the Mets is willing to give up in return for one year of a Cy Young caliber SP and a decent RP (and 2027 comp pick). I wonder how many folks would prefer the two prospects. The Brewers won 97 games last year and have World Series aspirations no different than the tigers, and they preferred the prospects. There are two big differences that I see. First, the brewers were starting from a stronger position and could more afford to lose the Cy young caliber SP. Second, their cache of top prospects wasn’t as good as the tigers.4 points

Tenacious D stated that the Mets were the best potential trade partner for Skubal and I agree. The Tigers may have been able to get 3 top 100 prospects, but I don't think the Tigers could get a top 20. Personally, if the Tigers do not get a top 20, 60 FV, All Star potential, prospect as a headliner in return - I would rather see Skubal pitch for the Tigers and see what the Tigers can obtain with the comp pick. To be honest, I may prefer the Tigers keep Skubal in any case because Skubal is just fun to watch. I don't see the Dodgers trading away their top prospects for one year of Skubal. The Dodgers don't need Skubal to win this year. The Dodger roster is aging. The CBA may not allow the Dodgers to buy as many players in the future - the Dodgers will need their young prospects. The CBA may allow the Dodgers to continue to buy players - the Dodgers can sign Skubal next year.2 points

Morris is in the HOF because of game 7 in '91 where, if Lonnie Smith doesn't make a base running error, he probably loses the game... and he was fortunate to have been born in the right year where he was able to get most of his wins in the 1980's, instead of, say 1977-1986. That way "winningest pitcher of the 80's" can be said about him. I fully understand the reasons you laid out, that's been said numerous times by many people, and I'm saying that's bull**** and not a valid scorecard of who should be in the HOF. The voters aren't doing their job correctly by leaving Lou out when others are in.2 points

He can't beat anyone off the dribble anymore and without that speed he's just a poor defender who's solid at shooting catch and shoot threes (but not off the dribble). At this point I'd rather see Daniss, Sasser, or Chaz out there. On a related note, I was happy that I didn't have to watch LaVert play in this game.2 points

I realize this is a few days old now and we won so nobody will care, but JB is mindboggling sometimes. You need 1 stop at the end of the game and you don't insert a lineup of your best defenders (Cade, Ausar, Green, Holland, and Stew)? It's only been a couple weeks since JB himself came out and said that Stew is the best defensive center in the NBA, yet he's consistently sitting on the bench in these situations. Not only that, you have two potential first team All Defensive players in Ausar and Stew and neither of them are assigned to guard Brown on that last play? Maybe rolling the dice on losing one game isn't terribly important in the regular season, but this is the type of thing that cost us the Knicks series last year and will probably rear its ugly head in the playoffs again this year.2 points

i dont think picks alone get it done. he's 26 and a top line center. i bet they want at least danielson/kasper and a first rounder. and i bet if detroit balked, someone else would beat it. like minnesota. thomas was - up until this season - a true #1 guy. like with hughes, those dont grow on trees. unlike hughes, he's signed to a contract that will be extremely reasonable as he goes through his prime. and at louis doesnt have to deal him because of that. you'll have to blow them away. in the end, its likely too rich for yzerman's blood. its not his MO to do something like that, especially since this team doesnt seem to be "one piece away."1 point

Exactly. It makes no sense for the Dodgers to give up Sasaki, Rushing, and Hope for a player they have proven they don't need to win and who they can just sign next year.1 point

EAR UPDATE: Noticed sensation (sound like a muffled or broken speaker) yesterday coming from the left headphone for the first time since my ear shut off. Did a hearing test today and while the results would not be called "good" as a whole, they is significant improvement in noticing "sensation" even if it isn't definable sound, and that is a major step forward. Been taking the steroid drops once a day for 7 days now, so it appears that this IS a virus of some kind and that either the drops or working or the virus is running it's course. No guarantee I get the hearing in that ear back 100%, but I'm certainly feeling better about it today than a week ago. I have to go all the way out to Macomb from Dearborn for these visits. The reason is that because this happened during the holiday break it was very hard to get an appointment anywhere close to home. I go to a Corewell Health center 48 miles from home, while I have one 4 blocks from where I live, but I need to stick with the team I started with. But, holy ****, M-59 is the worst ****ing road to drive on. There is ZERO traffic flow. It's a bunch of cars just doing whatever. There is no fast lane/slow lane, it's just pure chaos and half of these people aren't even looking at the road and cutting across several lanes of traffic to make the turn - and I'm not sure 20% of our drivers understand what the Green Light means. You don't need to hit your breaks when coasting through a green light. I hate that ****ing road.1 point

It’s a cult built on their peculiar brand of Christianity and the place Trump has assumed within it. Cult members look forward to dying for their cults as the purest expression of devotion to their leader, which presumably provides them entrance into their version of heavenly eternal life. That’s why they don’t simply snap out of it.1 point

So is Trump's deal on Greenland just him folding like a bitch? What exactly did we get out of all this bluster and market volatility exactly? I thought we were going to get the whole of the island or ay minimum, all the mineral rights? So what did we end up with?1 point

If Lou were somehow on the BBWAA ballot today he would get in. Seems like the voters now are getting better. He is a very fluke case and that's why its aggravating that the era committees aren't doing the right thing. His first year on the ballot was a crowded year and the voters have a limit of 10.1 point

Whitaker did win the GG and Silver Slugger 3 years in a row. His top 3 similar batters on BR are in the HOF, as are 6 of the 10. The HOF is what the voters make of it and if a guy is better than others that are in there, and more importantly are still getting in there, he should make it. There's no definitive standard. Lou has a better case than Tram did.1 point

Then they should be discussed here too. But any time the lack of movement this year at the deadline is raised, or evidence that it’s a viable strategy is presented, the Eagles are brought up because they didn’t re-sign someone last offseason or didn’t win their playoff game this year. It’s reasonable to question the lack of movement. At the trade deadline we had needs at OL, DE (or anyone who can rush the passer), CB and S. We should be questioning if not finding an improvement at any of those hurt this team’s chances at making a run. It should be fair to question if saving mid to late round draft picks for projects is more valuable than improving the team today. I love the idea of building through the draft, but reality is that even Holmes is going to miss, and many of these mid to late round picks are only viable several seasons later. This is a rough sport, it’s highly likely that injuries are going to happen that you couldn’t have predicted 2+ years ago to have the project ready to step up, so sometimes spending draft capital to improve any area, even to league average, could be the difference. I would like to see the team get a little more aggressive now that the core is in place. I don’t think that’s a crazy ask. I’d be interested if anyone has credible info and any real trade targets from this deadline. New England didn’t make and trades but they are reported to have made several offers and just got outbid. One was getting outbid by Seattle in the trade that started the latest attack. And before the strawman of “MaYbE the LiOnS sHoUlD hAvE tRaDeD fOr ShAhEeD” gets built we can all agree that the Lions did not need a WR/PR, even given our KR was embarrassingly bad. There were just bigger holes.1 point

Wasn't sure where this went but another forum I was reading had somebody with a daughter with a concussion asking for help and somebody recommended hyperbaric oxygen. That got me down the rabbit hole of the boy in Troy who was murdered by quacks in a hyperbaric chamber. I am glad those ghouls are facing charges.1 point

Ever since 1919, Halifax has provided Boston with its Christmas tree as a thank you for their aid that year. And Canadian tourists are definitely a big part of New England's summer economy. I think it would be hard to find a better neighbor than Canada.1 point

Not going after you, but tweets like these drive me bonkers and are all too common in the Elon Blue Check era. Screengrab roster resource and collect from the clicks. Flaherty averaged 0.67 runs in in the games Tigers won Olson 1.17 I wouldn't have guessed it was quite that low across the board though, so it was an interesting observation on your part. The Tigers scored 4.5 runs in all of Skubal's starts and 6.0 in Mize's starts. Skubal never gave up more than 4 runs in any of the losses, so he likely would have won more games with more run support. ER allowed per game in Mize's losses 3.2. 2.0 in Skubal's losses.1 point
