  1. Yup. But, hey, if coaches can move from season to season, if non athletic students can transfer from school to school, why can't the student-athletes?
  2. Speak for yourself.
  3. On the other hand, the basketball travels more distance by hitting the backboard and ricocheting back, right? That’s just more opportunity for it to be too far off to the side one way or the other, right?
  4. Looks like he’s been playing 3B primarily with some DH time beginning on 08/23. Colt Keith has been at 2B with a few appearances at 3B during that time.
  5. Trade bait. He could be an add on to acquire another bat to the lineup or a different pitcher. The free agent market looks poor, so rather than shop there, why not try the trade market? Why not engage with teams that might be looking to shed some salary, even if those salaries are attached to good ball players?
  6. PAC 12 opens up at a cumulative 13-0 record (USC is 2-0). They’ll never manage to do that again.
  7. That's awesome. Guys like Kelly and Sanders may not be everyone's cup of tea. But when they're right, they're right.
  8. LHP Sam McMackin played 2 MLB games. 1 for Detroit, 1 for Chicago.
  9. Um... ok? Yup, this. If we can't poke a little fun at each other, if we can't poke a little fun at our own foibles, then what are we even doin' here, man? Generic to the beginning of any new college football and definitely specific to Colorado this season, we just don't have anything to go on yet. Rewind to a year ago? Who knew TCU would make it the championship game last season? Who knew OSU cast off Joe Burrow would turn into LSU pigskin god Joe Burrow? Its why I hate preseason and early season rankings. Nobody knows for sure what these teams are until they start playing that season.

  11. I suspect if they put Greene on the IL, they’d just bring up Maton or someone else already on the 40.
  12. Yeah, I remember the Falcons and Saints in the NFC West and the Reds and the Braves in the NL West. I remember wondering about that in a social studies class in grade school one day. Football can get away with it, that’s fine. All of the other sports with the more travel involved, it doesn’t make sense. But, hey, whatever, I’ll still watch.
  13. Oooooops.
  14. There are marching band shows around here where several bands will take turns going through their halftime shows. It seems like ours always visits one other particular school’s show and then our school also hosts their own show with a return trip of the formerly mentioned school as well as several others. It seems like when our school hosts, they get each of the 6 to 8 most NW counties of the state represented. I don’t know if that’s intentional or not, but it’s worked out that way for the previous 2 years and this year as well. They were part of Chicago’s Christmas parade a couple of years ago. We arrived late, but just in time to see them march by. They were followed by Kool and the Gang and Tag Team. Of course my daughter had no idea who they were, and sort of remembered Tag Team from the GEICO commercial ice cream spoof.
  15. Wow. Wasn’t expecting this one. I’ve seen him in Columbus, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Detroit, Pittsburgh, Wisconsin, and Las Vegas. The Vegas one…. A certain poster around here kicked the idea about our Buffett group of several couples going there. So, he texted me one morning about tickets going on sale in less than an hour, are me and my wife in? Well, my wife and I hadn’t really made a decision. So my response was, well, the wife didn’t say no, so, sure, we’re in. And that’s how we saw him in Vegas.
  16. I wouldn't add them. And who knows, "Big 10" just might be a past tense term in college football in a few seasons.
  17. None of this makes sense and we all know it.
  18. I am pretty sure most of the kids do both. I remember growing up caddy corner from the local high school and hearing them practice from time to time. In fact, every once in a while, they would practice their parade stuff by marching down the street. I don't know they got away with that, and it wasn't very often, but they did it.

  20. Along the lines of high school football, Toledo Central Catholic hosts Detroit Catholic Central tonight. I’m sure the announcers have no fears of being tongue tied tonight.
  21. Marching band season. My eldest plays clarinet. The band has around 120 kids this season. It’s down a bit from last season. But it’s a very good program and I’m happy she’s in it. My wife mentioned how she was out the door for school early and in a noticeably great mood last week which was their first football game. I happened to be home today and she was pretty happy this morning before leaving for school.
  22. I think they mentioned residual effects from illness. I kind of wish they went with Lipcius at 2B and leading off.
  23. We’re Tiger fans. That probably makes us stubborn by nature.
  24. Several factors went into the Dodgers’ move. A stadium squabble, improving transportation, and as you alluded to, an untapped MLB market on the west coast were several minor league teams had been very successful. LA officials had also discussed with the Senators. The Giants had also considered flipping to Minneapolis which was where their AAA team was based. Although I think it was the Dodgers that technically announced their move first, it might have actually been the Giants that did much of the wheel greasing to bringing MLB to the west coast.
  25. I’m not so sure about the winning part, at least on the field. Winning off of the field in terms of profit, sure. Winning on the field for most owners, whether it be the short game or long game (which might be harder to see), ok. But was Jeffrey Loria interested in winning on the field? I suppose for a small subset of owners, winning on the field (again, even long term) isn’t a primary objective. Or maybe their organizations are just not successful at accomplishing that goal.
