  2. So, I, surprised that this hasn’t been brought up in here. Remember when Rob Manfred was asked about expansion and he declined to commit until the Athletics and Rays got their stadium situations settled?
  3. At first glance, I thought this was "rapture". Like, whoa, how did we get there?
  4. TBA, TBD, Bullpen Day, Rehab Assignment, Opener, and Freshest Arm is basically how the six game a week schedule went.
  5. Are they broadcasting the surgery on Bally's?
  6. I hate the save stat. Rivera's career 1.0 WHIP, 2.21 ERA, and 2.76 FIP seem more impressive to me. Heck, beyond the career numbers, he was the same pitcher year after year. At a position that sees its fair share of ebbs and flows, he was both dominant and consistent. The guy truly shortened the game by an inning. Teams had 8 innings to outscore the Yankees. For damn near 20 seasons.
  7. Atlanta has 3 SPs that will toss 30 starts and around/over 170 IPs. Must be nice. But I think even more impressively, they've put together a roster of everyday position players. They'll have 8 hitters with over 500 PAs (4 of whom will be over 600 PAs) and a catcher that will probably get to around 450 PAs.
  8. Yup. There's only uno Mariano. Everybody else better find multiple pitches.
  9. "Now batting for the Tigers, number 31, left fielder, RoboGreene."
  10. I want to use 3 of the 4 emojis on this one.
  11. Piercingly so. The kind of look that you got from Sister Mary Felicitus gave to you in 2nd grade before she took you to the woodshed for talking out of turn at school.

  13. Funny you mention him. I was at the Mud Hen game on Sunday. As we were walking by the former strip joint that’s now a pizza place (or is that just a front?) on the RF corner, some guy that sorta looked like him was standing in the doorway and stared me down as I walked by. I just so happened to be wearing my old English C hat. You don’t think that he recognized me from this place, do you?
  14. Yes, context and surrounding seasons factor in. Plus, we're considering rewriting history for a franchise that would currently hit a high water mark with a break even record. I think that's why I don't consider 2006 a failure. It was so out of the blue and expected. The World Series stunk, sure. But I prefer it over losing to the Yankees or Athletics in the playoffs. If you were to say, "hey, we have a flux capacitor and a Delorean, let's go back to the beginning of the 2006 playoffs and see what happens", I think I'm cool with just staying here and accepting what happened. I wouldn't chance losing before the World Series.
  15. Both can be right here.
  16. I think I'd take it. I'm a much bigger fan of the Tigers than the Pistons. But I look back at when the Pistons lost to the Spurs in the NBA Finals. They had a lead going late into the 3rd or early in the 4th of game 7, I cannot recall when the Spurs pulled ahead. I didn't sleep much that night, adrenaline and disappointment and all of that. But I got over it eventually. And, really, they won more games that playoffs than they would have had they not gotten to the Finals, so I was able to enjoy those games. I think the same would happen with the Tigers.

  18. Sure, it’s baseball. Any team can beat any other team on any given day or in any given series.
  19. It could have been 1983 or even 1973, and it wouldn’t have surprised me.
  20. I guess I'm not sure how the International League does the playoffs. I see on the MILB app (make sure you enunciate that correctly) that they had a first half and second standings in addition to overall. Regardless, the "offense" that was witnessed today was awful. Darn near no hit today. Bigbie drilled a line drive double to CF. Malloy had a few SOs and then took a pitch off of the chest and defensively, missed two right side groundballs that I think he should have had. Granted, I'm no scout and my angle might not have been good enough to judge it well (behind the 3B dugout). Maton just doesn't look like he has a stable enough stance at the plate, looks somewhat wobbly when he releases which cannot help his eyes/head stay on the pitch. Dingler nearly parked one down the LF line, but it didn't clear the wall, so he ended up with a double.

  22. It was either Diaz or Short.
