Yes, exactly. My opinion, which admittedly ain't worth nothing, is that pitching has more or less devolved into throwing. I think this leads to the 6 man pitching staffs, the 13 man pitching staffs, shorter duration/game on the mound, etc, etc. I don't know, it seems silly to me that with better conditions for athletes, better health (training and nutrition, etc) and we're still dealing with injury issues despite shorter outings. And, sure, all of these advancements and better conditions are helping the hitters, too. I don't know, I'm trying to not be "back in my day" guy, but the modern day pitching just doesn't make sense to me.

How many 19 inning games are there in a season? How about using SP for more than 5 innings and RP for more than 1 inning?

Has anything changed from (1) any of the mass shootings previous and/or (2) the traitorous insurrection which directly affected a lot of politicians? Its a ridiculous parallel because one is a real scenario to deal with and another is just entertainment, but the gun culture is a lot like instant replay in football. The 2nd amendment is the rule/play in question and is argued about from whatever side people are on. The gun culture is what it is. Until enough people in power start to feel the pain of these incidents directly from a personal standpoint, the play won't be overturned, there will be no significant change. And even then, these people will likely ignore the obvious and stick their head in the sand because of some faux principle of holding up an amendment that some slave owning politician thought over 2 centuries ago back when life couldn't even contemplate consider any non white male as an equal human being. Its really just that simple.

I think he’s going to rebound well. He’ll be ready for the WBC. He may be streaky, but we know he’ll be ready to go for Opening Day. Plus, like it or not, he can play his way out of Detroit. It’s not a good middle infield free agency pool after 2023. Even though he’s got 4/$100M awaiting him, he might be able to scratch out an extra season and/or higher average annual salary.

I think the other thing to keep in mind with Duren (and Ivey) is that they’re rookies playing minutes for a season like they haven’t before. Wiseman should get adequate minutes down the stretch. If they happen to overlap and be on the court at the same time for a few minutes at a time, that’s fine. Given Bagely’s injury history, we should expect games where only 3 bigs are available with Stewart starting at PF.

Seems like they should roll him out. Sure, he might not know much of the playbook. But its only 2 or 3 passes on offense, and its constant switching on defense until the bigs are on the perimeter and/or the littles are in the post.

Maybe. Maybe not. It could be the bottom of the inning, batting team trailing. A double play gets things to 2 outs or over.

That is quite intriguing, and seemed so when it was announced. Are the Tigers the first to do this? I know San Francisco had a few extra coaches on the major league staff, and not all are eligible to coach during the game. Harris seems to have brought that with him. Did the Giants, or anyone else, have a direct relationship between kinesiology and pitching through one coach? Maybe its not that big of a deal, but when's the last time the Tigers were in the same time zone as progressive thinking?

Specific to pitching, what rules in other sports prevent players designated as one position from playing another position? There are hybrid players in all sports. Centers are either becoming extinct in basketball or evolving into something different. Basketball in general is morphing into postionless arrangements. Offensive lineman in football are restricted to wearing certain numbers and have certain rules dictating when/where they can be, but I don't think there's a rule saying they couldn't flip over to defensive line. I don't know enough about hockey, but I know on penalty kills, wings & defence (shout out Canada) might not necessarily be two of each at a time on the ice. And then there is the pulling of the goalie for an extra attacker.

I feel like a good 2023 season won't be measured by wins and losses as much as it will be by laying the framework of actually identifying, acquiring, and developing talent, and then actually following through on it. I suppose some of the prework has been done, but it might be evident to fans just yet.

I was dead set against the runner on 2nd to begin extra innings. I don't care much about it anymore. It won't occur in the playoffs, the bases are empty to open an inning. I'd say play the 10th inning as is. Put a runner on 1st in the 11th. Put a runner on 2nd in the 12th. Put a runner on 3rd in the 13th.
