  1. While football is being brought into the discussion, I will say that I think sometimes baseball fans misconstrue the magnitude of game by game results from football onto baseball. A loss is much more of a severe penalty in football than it is in baseball because of the number of games played. A loss in baseball sucks, but there are 161 other games to play. Plus, we're Tiger fans. A loss shouldn't surprise us the past several years.
  2. He’s probably still in shock about what he just saw. And we have no idea what conversations there are between Hinch and Harris. We have no idea what the targeted goals are for this season. We can assume the general development of youngsters, try to get veterans tradable, that generic kind of stuff. It’s probably safe to safe playoff contention wasn’t a part of the discussion. And the way the rotation is getting hurt again this season, at this point, what do they do there?
  3. A stinker is a hybrid of the slider & sinker? Learn something new everyday. 😆
  4. Prompting Malloy now that he has slowed down after April or promoting Keith past AAA are both ideas that are unmitigated ass.
  5. For all of the dumpster diving that was referred to as depth building, there really ain’t any depth at Toledo. And before anyone suggests promoting Malloy, he’s slowed down after a torrid start. Low .700 OPS after April. Probably still some lessons to be learned.
  6. The umpire didn’t even flinch. He was probably frozen because he couldn’t believe where the pitch was going. Was the call a header off of the ump’s nugget and tag out the runner trying to advance home? The ricochet was slightly miscalculated.
  7. I don’t believe what I just saw.
  8. Thanks @Dave Christian for catching the game time.

  10. Hasn't this been a round for a couple of seasons already? Don't get me wrong, it is helpful. My worthless guess is that the recent rule has helped more overall. Certainly we can agree the pitch clock helps move things along with every plate appearance while the reliever rule helps things move along later in the game.
  11. Might this be the genesis of the stress fracture?

  13. Well, its not election season, so it had to be one of gambling, lawyers, or beer.
  14. That'd be a good fund raiser to sell lottery tickets for.
  15. Hadn't thought of it as being the yips.
  16. Leyland had the Sunday lineups, too.
  17. One would think this would be quite the selling point assuming the "refurbish" is being done correctly.
  18. Sounds fine to me. Get with the program or grab some pine. I'm still holding onto some hope for Wiseman. He's still young (22) and inexperienced (84 NBA games). Maybe he doesn't live up the billing of a 2nd overall pick. But can he still be a valuable basketball player on a winning team?
  19. Baddoo had a couple of throws from the OF to 2B that seemed stronger than normal, too. One nearly nabbed someone at 2B, the throw just slightly off of the bag but on a good catchable bounce for Maton. I wonder if Maton could have positioned himself better trying to tag the hitter (Semien?), and kept the tag on him. He actually slid off of the base and regained it before being tagged out. The other was a bit of an off balance throw that was off of 2B. He ranged far from his initial position towards the LF line, caught the bounce, had to plant, then pivot, and then throw. The plant and pivot were tough to maneuver given the path and speed to collect the hit. That said, it was a pretty strong throw into the infield considering he had been running away from 2B, and it was that strength that caught my eye. I think its easy to forget he's only 24 since this is his 3rd season with Detroit. And it was mentioned elsewhere recently that maybe he's one of the players that really took a developmental hit due to the double whammy of Tommy John and COVID.
  20. I'm just glad it wasn't Ollie. The parting from UConn just doesn't sit well with me. Maybe it shouldn't matter and I'm overly critical of it. This hire needed to be a developmental hire. This is the NBA and coaching seats get turned over quickly, even for winning teams. The fact that the Pistons hired a coach with the record of Williams' seems fortunate, but I'm not smart enough to know if this will translate to what the Pistons really need at this time. It is entirely possible that this nucleus of youth will need to different coaches to reach the Finals (should we be so lucky to see it). One to develop them into championship talented pieces, another to cohesively weave those pieces together. Hopefully Williams can do both. But, again, this is the NBA we're talking about. The contract terms seem expensive, but as has been mentioned, it ain't my money, and it doesn't count against the cap. So Williams is step one, but who will comprise his coaching staff? That's probably equally important to all of this.
  21. Should'of sat him vs LHPs more offen.
  22. He seems to me to have a weird run. Its kind of cartoonish in a way. His upper body almost seems to trail his legs. That's probably bot the case at all, but his upper body doesn't seem to be in front of his legs like others. Its not very athletic looking to me (which is rich coming from someone that can have their 40 timed with a sun dial).
  23. The old "laugh to keep from crying" line? Probably suffered it while jogging with Fetter.
