Week Twelve: Detroit Lions (9-1) @ Indianapolis Colts (5-6)
lordstanley replied to MichiganCardinal's topic in Detroit Lions
I would have declined that penalty. I understand the Lions likely were afraid the Colts would have gone for it on 4th and short but I’m not sure they would have. Looked closer to 2 yards to go than 1 yard. -
Damn. That will especially sting if Montgomery turns around the Blues’ 9-12-1 season.

Loss.

1-1 after 1 hosting the Bruins as Raymond pots a late goal
-
All Colts games have been decided by 10 points or less. They've won 5 games by a combined 17 points. They've lost 6 games by a combined 32 points. Let's win by 33 points!

Wings win!
-
The roster and play generally has been x-rated.

Raymond may have just snatched a victory for the Wings. Wings now up 2-1 with 51 seconds to go. Update: now just 14 seconds to go

Tyler Holton picked up an MVP vote! I wonder if he has a bonus clause in his contract. Holton received a 10th place vote from Toronto Star columnist Mike Wilner. It was the only MVP vote for Holton, giving him a total of one point — just like four other players. The one point put Holton in a five-way tie for 15th with Houston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve, Kansas City Royals right-hander Seth Lugo, Texas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager and Houston Astros left-hander Framber Valdez. Holton, 28, posted a 2.19 ERA with 17 walks (4.8% walk rate) and 77 strikeouts (21.8% strikeout rate) across 94⅓ innings in 66 games in the 2024 season. He started nine games as an opener and picked up eight saves as a closer, all while averaging 1.4 innings per appearance. His ERA ranked first among 71 AL pitchers with at least 90 innings.

Next 5 of 6 at home and actually outshooting NYI through two for a rarity, but trailing 1-0

He's not dating Livvy Dunne. -
He's the ultimate "company man". I'm a fan of KK though.

Week Twelve: Detroit Lions (9-1) @ Indianapolis Colts (5-6)

A couple of names I haven't thought of in a bit and have already written off, for this season at least: are Barnes and Davenport both definitely out for the season, including the playoffs? Both injuries were reported as "most likely" ending their seasons. Any chance either one attempts a January or February comeback like some hope Hutch will? -

As far as just making the playoffs, which used to be a big deal for us Lions fans, the Lions have a whopping 4-game lead and have already beaten two of the three 5-5 teams. Going 1-6 the rest would almost surely be enough to make the playoffs, at 10-7. -

After 65 wins just the season before last!

By the way, Daniel Sprong didn't work out with the Canucks (9GP 1G 2A) and is back with the Kraken, where he has played 2 games this season so far. Elsewhere: Shayne Gostisbehere has 4G 9A 13pts in 17 games this year for Carolina. David Perron as 0G 0A 0pts in 6 games this year for Ottawa. Robby Fabbri had 2G 0A 2pts in 14 games this year for Anaheim but then, shocker, got injured. Jake Walman has 1G 10A 11pts in 15 games for San Jose this year. Seems to have been benched as a healthy scratch for 2 weeks but has played the last 2 games including last night vs the Wings Olli Maata has 0G 0A 0pts in 15 games for Utah Hockey Club this year. Klim Kostin has 0G 0A 0pts in 9 games for San Jose this year. Going back to Wings' players from the season before. Filip Hronek has 1G 5A 6pts in 17 games for Vancouver this year. Dominik Kubalik is out of the NHL after 15 pts in 74 games for Ottawa last year; he signed with a Swiss team this September. Pius Suter has 6G 2A 8pts in 16 games for Vancouver this year. Oskar Sundqvist has 2G 0A 2pts in 12 games for St. Louis this year. Tyler Bertuzzi has 5G 1A 6pts in 18 games for Chicago this year. Filip Zadina is out of the NHL and playing in Switzerland, after 23 pts in 72 games for San Jose last season. Jakub Vrana has 4G 3A 7pts in 15 games for Washington this year. Jordan Oesterle has 0G 0A in 3 games for Boston this year, after playing 22 games for Calgary last season. Alex Nedljkovic has a 3.17 GAA and .886 save % in 10 games for Pittsburgh this year. So much mediocrity (or worse)!!

I also read that if the Lions maintain the +15.8/game point differential the next 7 games, their season total would end up 2nd best since 2000 behind only the 2007 Patriots. -

Agreed. The good news is that the only the way the Lions won’t finish ahead of Minnesota with a Lions win in the final game is if the Vikings outperform the Lions by 3 games or more the next 6 games. That won’t happen. I just don’t want to go into the final game needing a Lions win. -
I think 7-9-2 for 16 points in 18 games still flatters the Wings. Almost 1/4 of the season and they’ve played worse than that dismal record.
-
I have no idea of the top-end quality or of the depth of this year's draft class. Sloth? Would a #5 pick this year yield a stud who'd be able to make the team the year after next?

I don't consider the Lions two games up on the Vikings and Packers because if either team beats the Lions at Ford Field and otherwise matches the Lions the rest of the way (or in Green Bay's case, otherwise outperforms the Lions by one game, it goes to a tiebreak. I think the Lions are way ahead of Minnesota on conference record but I think too early to assume that's in the bag. So if the Lions and Vikings both go 4-2 or 5-1 and then Minnesota upsets Detroit in Detroit, then it goes to the tiebreak. I think the Lions will beat Minnesota handily in the final game of the season, so it would be a moot point, but I'd rather not have to go into Week 18 worried about it. So I'm most worried about Minnesota. I think Green Bay and Philly are better teams than Minnesota. But Minnesota is the biggest risk of snatching the division title from the Lions and knocking them down to a #5 seed. I think the Lions go to the Super Bowl as long as they're at least the #2 seed. #1 seed, a bye, and 2 home games is ideal. But I think that they're good enough to go #2 seed, 2 home games, and road win over Philly even in bad-weather January. But #5 seed needing 3 road wins to win the NFC? That's a tall ask. -
Talbot was giving Celebrini most of the net.
