  1. I don't think it's a foregone conclusion that the Texans take a qb this draft. They're a minimum of 2 to 3 years away from winning so they may want to build up other parts of the team and kick the can down the road a year especially when there is a Willi Anderson/Jalen Carter level talent this draft among non qbs and a Caleb Williams level qb next draft. Even if they miss out on Caleb there still will be premium guys like Ewers and Maye they could draft.
  2. Im a big fan of Tyree Wilson, obviously prefer Anderson or Carter but he wouldn't be a bad consolation prize if they are gone and we are unable to trade back a few picks.
  3. If Bryce was 3 inches taller and 30 lbs heavier he'd be considered one of those generational type prospects cause his game is that good but unfortunately he isn't and there just isnt want precedent set in the league for a guy his size. There may have been guys equally as short but none as slender, may have been guys as slender but not as short, we simply have nobody to compare it to and anytime that is the case it makes you a little weary. Its just hard to predict how that frame will hold up to NFL players hitting him week in and week out 17 games a year. On top of that an underappreciated danger is vast majority of nfl teams play on turf instead of grass and by all accounts that is far tougher on the body so another thing you have to consider. To me he's the type of guy that very well could put up an MVP season any given year but also could be the guy who could be oft injured and has lost seasons because of it.
  4. Not that this means much I just thought it was interesting that this tidbit was posted today considering we were talking about the similarities in terms of career trajectories between Goff and Stafford. Marino was fastest and Stafford was 2nd doing it 94 games.
  5. How close are Amen Thompson and Henderson? I love Amen's length and athleticism but not sure if he's close enough to take at number 2 ahead of Scoot.
  6. Those popeye arms will come in handy at the ping pong table, he probably can generate alot of velocity on his overhead spikes with them, may even help generate some more spin on his serves as well.
  7. Quinnen Williams is a beast, I trust our oline but Id prefer them not have to deal with him.
  8. Its also worth noting that these guys are human and that McVay and Goff didn't always seem to see eye to eye. When you arent getting along with your HC and he doesnt seem to believe in you its not out of the realm of possibility that your confidence and in turn play could suffer. Look how bad Slay and others looked here under Patricia when they didnt see eye to eye with them and when Patricia would bad mouth them. They go elsewhere and their play got alot better.
  9. This is true and that's why that while Im personally against taking a qb early I won't go kicking and screaming if they do if they feel that the offense could run even better with said qb. Like say if they feel Stroud throws a better deep ball than Goff and in turn he can take the offense to another level than yeah feel free to take him. I just don't agree with the notion that you have to take one just cause Goff isn't the answer and you need a qb for the future.
  10. Theres also this false narrative that you need a Mahomes or Allen type to win in this league and that's simply not true. In the last 10 or so years we've seen Flacco, Foles, a broken down Peyton Manning and the guy nobody thought you could win with Matthew Stafford win Super Bowls. There were also a host of other Goff types including Goff himself make a SB. Sure it would be nice to have one but the odds of you coming across one and them developing into said player statistically aren't very high. There just aren't that many of those guys that come into the league. We're getting to the point where KC was when they had so few holes they could take a chance on a guy like Mahomes or Baltimore with Lamar but I just don't think we are there yet. If we have another great draft this year and a guy comes along in 2024 that has that potential elite upside perhaps then we can take him with our 1st pick or even trade future capital to move up to get him but right now I think we have a few obvious holes that can be plugged with early picks and Id prefer that route, particularly when our current qb is playing at the level he is.
  11. With payrolls going up and seemingly going to continue to rise I don't think big market teams are as concerned about "regretting" deals 6 or 7 years down the road. For instance by that time its very likely SF may have near a 300 million dollar payroll if they keep projecting upwards and even if Correa is an albatross by then he would still only represent like 10% of their payroll. Having that percentage of dead weight isn't nearly as debilitating as say having 30 million on a 150 million like we were with Miggy.
  12. Jacob Gonzalez was a guy that really intrigued me when I was looking at potential guys last spring. Of course at that time I was more focused on guys that seemed pretty advanced and could help out sooner rather than later since I thought we were at the point of competing but now it feels like that isn't the case and it isn't as imperative to get an mlb ready guy.
  13. That's a shame about Hooker's age and him getting injured cause watching him this year he really impressed me and was somebody that I would have thought long and hard about taking in the 2nd or 3rd round but I just assumed he was normal college age, had no idea that he was that old. And while I agree with Cardinal in a sense that QB age generally isn't that important to me coming out of the draft since they showed they can be valuable well into their mid 30s when it comes to somebody who is more dependent on their athletic ability the age is something that I would consider.
  14. Not that the draft gurus rankings should be taken as gospel but must those guys rankings that Ive seen have Corum as a borderline top 10 RB in this class and I kinda agree with that. Yeah he was awesome for Michigan but I just don't think he has the true top end speed or explosiveness to be a game changing back in the NFL.
  15. Depending on the results of the players Seattle uses the picks on this could end up being the modern day Hershel walker trade. Same with the Watson one.
  16. When is Lance supposed to come back? Sooner or later you think the Niners would either have to give him the keys to the kingdom or trade him away. I mean IF they do sign Brady that would mean at the earliest Lance wouldn't start till his 4th season.
  17. That is the million dollar question and why I'm not opposed to taking a qb if Holmes and company feel the guy can be somebody that can carry the offense regardless of personnel around him but one guy in this draft who I don't think fits that bill is Stroud which is the guy most likely to fall to us. He isn't uber athletic, doesnt have a howitzer of an arm and doesnt make a ton of "wow" throws. Instead he takes care of the ball and takes advantage of the great receivers he has always had. He's somebody that I would bet needs the right personnel around him to be successful.
  18. It sounds obvious but I feel you don't take a qb in the top 5 unless you are pretty damn confident that he is going to end up better than what you're getting with Goff and personally Im skeptical any of them will be. Thats why I hate the lazy "Goff isnt the answer long term, they need their qb of the future" without giving any reason why they feel the qb they are drafting will be better than the 28 year old that is top 7 in qbr that they have now.
  19. My prediction of the Broncos winning it all may be my worst prediction of all time and Ive made some bad ones in my time. I totally overestimated Wilson's abilities and the talent that they already had on the team. I thought they could be this year's Rams with Russ playing the role of Stafford but I didnt count on Russ being a shell of his former self and/or being completely lost without Pete Carroll.
  20. McShay has us taking Stroud at 4 and Porter at 17 in his 1st mock that came out today. Im not against taking a qb at 4 but if they take one I hope it's not cause of the reason that he gives. He basically gave the old Goff is playing great but he's not the long term answer(despite only being 28) and they need a qb of the future.
  21. It would certainly be a loss if either or both go but Im confident in Campbell and the rest of the staff that they wouldve picked up on the things that they did that worked and will also find competent replacement whether that's from within or elsewhere.. We're not used to it here but the great franchises and Head Coaches churn throught assistants all the time due to their success yet they rarely skip a beat, I think or atleast hope that will be the case with us.
  22. Was just thinking about this, not that its a huge deal to most folks but the folks that do care about prime time games I bet next year we are going to be a hot choice for quite a few National games. It seems like we are generating a lot of buzz nationally and even the folks that aren't Lions fan seem to enjoy watching them and rooting for them.
  23. Decker was a turnstyle early on in the 2019 season, that week 1 game at Arizona that year specifically comes to mind but other than that tough stretch he has been really good to great his whole Lions career. Atleast with what I can remember.
  24. Holmes like many other GMs draft on a tier based and round based system and not necessarily a flat "big board" where you line up guys 1 through 300 or whatever. For example he will assign a certain number of players a 1st round grade, 2nd round grade etc. and if he is picking at say 15 but only has 13 guys with a 1st round grade he is either going to try to trade up to get one of those guys he has at a 1st round grade or trade back and pick up extra picks instead of just taking whoever he has ranked highest on his board. This is why he traded up for Jamo last year, he was the last guy on their board that they gave a true 1st round grade to and he wanted to insure he got that guy. Its also the same reason the Vikings traded back, they didn't have Jamo or any other player at a 1st round grade so instead of just taking a guy there cause he is the highest left they traded back to get extra picks.
