  1. They quickly brought up notable MLBers from Michigan which made me think of Chris Getz who I faced a couple times in High School. I remember the first time we faced him he was developing a rep among local High School teams and coaches for how good he was, we were a good squad that year and didn't buy into the hype, he proceeded to hit 4 doubles and a triple against us along with making plays at short that I never witnessed a high school player make before. I always think about how he was on another planet compared to the vast majority of guys I played against yet was a nobody in the big leagues, that experience always puts into perspective just how good even the worst MLB players are. Well except for current Tigers of course.
  2. It's been so long but I'm trying to think how I would've reacted back when we were good and in a tight playoff race and got blown out by a scrub team. I'm sure I wouldn't have been happy.
  3. lol I swear when they cut to the fan standing infront of the Cabrera's HR sign the previous pitch I was gonna say something like "Buddy you can stand there for the rest of the season and you're not going to change that number"
  4. Baby steps.lol Had an .879 OPS in the last 7 days coming into this game, obviously small sample size but considering he has a little track record of hitting it gives me some hope that perhaps he can figure things out.
  5. Candy now with 4HRs in 50ABs in July. It sure would be nice to see him finish the season strong.
  6. I have no reason to think this other than just blind faith but I think Avila will be gone at the end of the year, probably not fired from the organization but they'll move him out of the GM role and find somewhere else to put him just out of loyalty. I think they haven't done it yet this year because they don't just want to name an interim for the time being, instead they want to wait till the offseason where they can do a more thorough search and get the permanent replacement. Despite the things that Chris has said and how passive he seems to be with more and more heat being put on Avila from the fans and even the local media I think Chris will have no choice but to make the move even if he really doesn't want to.
  7. I totally forgot about him until a highlight of him just popped up on my twitter but remember Trayce Thompson, who we traded a couple months ago for cash? Well in 25 games with the Dodgers since the trade he has an OPS of .853 and OPS+ of 135. Granted his peripherals aren't great and he will likely regress, also we don't know if he would've hit the same here(likely not) but if he did it would've been nice to get that type of production the last month instead of the crap we've been getting.
  8. I hate the return on Avila's trades as much as the next guy but in his defense he did get a good return for Justin Wilson along with getting Reese Olsen for Norris. Also getting Lange doesn't look so bad right now either so I wouldn't be complete against him doing the trading for our relievers. I would not want him handling somebody like Skubal though, unlike the relievers he could be a real asset and I would not want to trust Avila with somebody that important.
  9. Could've put this in the things that make you smile thread but since it involves a dog I'll post it here. My neighbor's dog who I've known since she was a puppy recently had to have her leg amputated due to cancer and naturally she hasn't been herself the last couple weeks. But today when I got home from work she was out in front with my neighbor and she came running(well as close to running as she can do now) over to me wagging her tail like her old self, she and my dog were playing like they used to. My neighbor said she has been doing alot better the last couple days. Just seeing her like that made me smile cause in a way I think of her as my second dog since I take care of her anytime they are out of town.
  10. https://www.theringer.com/nba/2022/7/11/23203674/bill-simmons-nba-trade-value-2022-summer-list BTW here's Bill Simmons' latest trade value list. Since I brought up SGA in the post above I was surprised to see that he only had him at 42, in fact he had Jaden Ivey 1 spot higher. Cade was all the way up at number 15 in the "True Franchise Guys" tier 1 spot ahead of Barnes. FWIW he had Mobley at 9 in the "Untouchables" tier.
  11. On a similar note, I remember several years back FG or ESPN ran a piece about Jacoby Ellsbury and his "Skill" of getting on base via catcher's interference. I can't remember the exact number but it was a crazy number compared to everybody else. IIRC they basically chalked it up to his swing path, like if he was down in the count and in a dire situation to get on base he would often bring his bat so far back with the sole intention of hitting the catcher's glove and getting the interference call.
  12. Crazy that they haven't played here since 2005, I know we played out in Petco in 2014 cause I went to one of the games while I was visiting my brother out there but aside from that I can't remember if we faced them another time. If that was the only series it seems pretty random that we only faced them one series in 17 years.
  13. Valenti just pointed out that the Tigers have not had a 30HR hitter since Miggy 6 seasons ago. In that time frame there have been 160 cases of a player hitting 30+ HRs and not a single one was a Tiger. Considering we're not going to get one this year that number will only get bigger by the time we finally do it. That stat alone should tell you why we've been so terrible particularly offensively.
  14. Unless Toronto is willing to give up Barnes I definitely don't see a scenario where they get anybody as good as Brown. It's a fun scenario to think about and I no it won't happen but what if OKC offers up SGA one of their young non Giddey/Chet players and some picks for KD? Giddey, Chet and KD along with whatever young guys that aren't part of the trade could cause nightmares for opposing teams but they still probably wouldn't be good enough to win the whole thing with which is why it won't happen but it's fun to think about.
  15. The Athletic polled 50 NFL coaches, scouts and evaluators their qb rankings and Goff came in at 22 in Tier 3. This is how they define tier 3 "TIER 3 A Tier 3 quarterback is a legitimate starter but needs a heavier running game and/or defensive component to win. A lower-volume dropback passing offense suits him best." This Tier features guys like Cousins, Hurts, Mayfield, Winston, Jimmy G along with Goff. Their opinion of Goff is basically what the optimist fans views are and that is he is good enough to win with if you have a strong running game and defense around him but not the guy who can carry a sub part supporting cast.
  16. So there's one, nice! Mike Hessman was another guess of mine but the best he did in a full season for the Tigers was .976 in Toledo in 2008.
  17. Its almost as if the Tigers are afraid to dump guys with some track record with the fear that they will perform well by the team that picks them up which would make Al and AJ look worse. As it stands they can just use the excuse that the guys all had bad years and there was nothing they could do about it.
  18. Stoney had a zinger this morning on the radio, the cohost filling in for Jansen said something like "Aside from Goff I think Swiff is the most important player on the team, if he goes down they may struggle to hit that over" Stoney: "Well we could always bring up our new coach JT Barrett, he's great in short yardage situation."
  19. Yeah I wouldn't just trade them for a lottery ticket either, if that's all they can get then I'd just say hang onto them in hopes that they finish the year strong and start next year well. If they do that maybe next deadline they will have more value then and if we are really lucky we will have a better GM doing the trading too. Also unlike other positions I don't think teams put as much stock for relievers into how many years you control them cause they know how volatile they are, so waiting a year to trade them probably wouldn't effect the return as long as they stay good. They trade for them with the sole purpose of helping them win the championship that particular year and not necessarily for the long term cause they know barring a select few you never really know what you are going to get year to year.
  20. My first thought was Cameron Maybin in 2007 but just checked and he was "only" .932 across 3 levels.
  21. Already found myself checking the top prospects for the 2023 draft. It doesnt sound like there are any Bryce Harpers in it and of course even if there were and we did end up finishing last this will be the first year where there is a lottery so with the way Detroit sports luck has been in lotteries(aside from Cade) we probably will end up picking the lowest spot we possibly can.
  22. Punishing a hitter for an error is kinda weird, I mean if you're going to punish him for a defender not making a play that is said to be routine then why don't you reward him when a defender makes a spectacular play to rob him of a hit?
  23. Rocco Baldelli doesn't want his starter having any part of facing Hammerin Harold for a 3rd time.
  24. Riley Greene Effect with a leadoff triple, can't wait to see how we manage to strand him.
