Valenti just pointed out that the Tigers have not had a 30HR hitter since Miggy 6 seasons ago. In that time frame there have been 160 cases of a player hitting 30+ HRs and not a single one was a Tiger. Considering we're not going to get one this year that number will only get bigger by the time we finally do it. That stat alone should tell you why we've been so terrible particularly offensively. -
Unless Toronto is willing to give up Barnes I definitely don't see a scenario where they get anybody as good as Brown. It's a fun scenario to think about and I no it won't happen but what if OKC offers up SGA one of their young non Giddey/Chet players and some picks for KD? Giddey, Chet and KD along with whatever young guys that aren't part of the trade could cause nightmares for opposing teams but they still probably wouldn't be good enough to win the whole thing with which is why it won't happen but it's fun to think about.

The Athletic polled 50 NFL coaches, scouts and evaluators their qb rankings and Goff came in at 22 in Tier 3. This is how they define tier 3 "TIER 3 A Tier 3 quarterback is a legitimate starter but needs a heavier running game and/or defensive component to win. A lower-volume dropback passing offense suits him best." This Tier features guys like Cousins, Hurts, Mayfield, Winston, Jimmy G along with Goff. Their opinion of Goff is basically what the optimist fans views are and that is he is good enough to win with if you have a strong running game and defense around him but not the guy who can carry a sub part supporting cast.

So there's one, nice! Mike Hessman was another guess of mine but the best he did in a full season for the Tigers was .976 in Toledo in 2008.

Its almost as if the Tigers are afraid to dump guys with some track record with the fear that they will perform well by the team that picks them up which would make Al and AJ look worse. As it stands they can just use the excuse that the guys all had bad years and there was nothing they could do about it. -
Stoney had a zinger this morning on the radio, the cohost filling in for Jansen said something like "Aside from Goff I think Swiff is the most important player on the team, if he goes down they may struggle to hit that over" Stoney: "Well we could always bring up our new coach JT Barrett, he's great in short yardage situation."

Yeah I wouldn't just trade them for a lottery ticket either, if that's all they can get then I'd just say hang onto them in hopes that they finish the year strong and start next year well. If they do that maybe next deadline they will have more value then and if we are really lucky we will have a better GM doing the trading too. Also unlike other positions I don't think teams put as much stock for relievers into how many years you control them cause they know how volatile they are, so waiting a year to trade them probably wouldn't effect the return as long as they stay good. They trade for them with the sole purpose of helping them win the championship that particular year and not necessarily for the long term cause they know barring a select few you never really know what you are going to get year to year.

My first thought was Cameron Maybin in 2007 but just checked and he was "only" .932 across 3 levels.

Already found myself checking the top prospects for the 2023 draft. It doesnt sound like there are any Bryce Harpers in it and of course even if there were and we did end up finishing last this will be the first year where there is a lottery so with the way Detroit sports luck has been in lotteries(aside from Cade) we probably will end up picking the lowest spot we possibly can.

Punishing a hitter for an error is kinda weird, I mean if you're going to punish him for a defender not making a play that is said to be routine then why don't you reward him when a defender makes a spectacular play to rob him of a hit?

Rocco Baldelli doesn't want his starter having any part of facing Hammerin Harold for a 3rd time. -

Riley Greene Effect with a leadoff triple, can't wait to see how we manage to strand him. -
lol touche. On a serious note I think it was because he was a 4 year starter, I had that same feeling with John Navarre with Michigan. I used to joke with people that he was on "The Van Wilder plan" cause it seemed like he was our QB forever.

Future Tiger Carlos Correa showing the Tigers brass he has no problems with Copa's dimensions by depositing a ball in the one of the deepest parts of the park. -

Watching Verlander and the Astros take on the Mariners on FS1 and I swear JV is an absolute freak. It's 2022 but if he was in a Tigers uniform you could've told me it was 2012 and judging by his stuff and performance I wouldn't have known. Still throwing 99mph in the 7th inning 100+ pitches in. Ended the day with 7 innings of 1 run ball with 9Ks, lowered his ERA slightly to 1.86 and WHIP to .88. -
It felt like Barrett was playing at OSU for a decade.

That's good to hear, not only for the Tigers but it's nice to finally get confirmation that Rodriguez is still alive and well. For better or worse considering the year he has had thus far we're probably stuck with him for the duration of the contract...unless of course he hates it here so much that he will opt out to take far less money somewhere else. edit: I just went and double checked to see when the opt out was and it was after next year not this season like I originally thought so I guess if he finishes this year strong and has a really good 2023 he may still have some suitors that offseason which could entice him to opt out.

Cashman: "Hey Al any interest in trading Fulmer, Lange or Soto" Al: "Only for Volpe and Dominguez"
-
Manning roughed up in Toledo tonight. 4 runs on 7 hits in only 4 1/3 innings. I haven't seen anything about how his stuff looked or how he felt but even though the numbers are pedestrian to say the least if he didn't get hurt I guess that's a positive step.

G2 first pointed it out then I went and researched it myself and that's Keuchel's decline lines up perfectly with the ban on spider tack. Like the start after they announced they were banning it he got rocked and its basically been that way ever since. Considering the type of pitcher he was who theoretically would benefit from the stuff more than others I don't think that is a coincidence.

We all talk about his bad trades, drafts, signings etc. but not selling high on Boyd and Fulmer when he had the chance was a somewhat under the radar blunder that doesn't get talked about enough. We flat out admitted that we were in full rebuild and several years a way from contention so when you're that far a way there is zero reason to keep 2 starting pitchers with injury histories. The likelihood they would still be good when we were competing was extremely small so why not trade them for younger guys that match up better with your competitive timeline?
