  1. I'm not worried about it at this point, there are a half dozen or so QBs that look promising this coming draft and while that could change come draft time in most cases a position is seen as deep a year ahead of time it indeed does become deep at the time of the draft. The 2021 draft was seen as deep and the Patriots got their guy at number 15 no reason to think that something similar couldn't happen this year with us.
  2. See you in 2024 Beau, you were a pleasant surprise while you lasted.
  3. I like the style of the tapered dress pants down to the ankle but with dress socks and shoes, not this no sock look.
  4. Tigers inject the team with a double dose of grit by calling up Kody and Short.
  5. I'm bullish on Skubal, his stuff doesn't wow you, neither does his command but both are good enough to be a plus starter but in games where one or the other are a little off there's a good chance that he is doing to struggle that day like we've seen for most of the past 5 or 6 weeks. He's not the type of guy who has the command to get by if his stuff is bad or the type of stuff to get by when he is missing his spots, unless he gets some babip luck off course.
  6. Our expectations were skewed based off of how we finished the lay 5 months of the season and the fact we used that as our true talent baseline....atleast the people that were thinking mid to upper 80s wins. The mindset was that we were a .500 team for nearly 5 months so you add Baez, Tork,Greene, Erod to that along with a better Baddoo, Skubal, Mize and Manning and you can easily expect 10 more wins. The problem was that we were actually more of a 70 win team last year than .500 so even if all those things happened we'd probably be closer to low 80s at best and if those things didn't happen we would be about a 70 win team. Of course nobody could have foreseen the terribleness of all things we were counting on which is why we're even worse off then we even imagined under the worst case scenarios.
  7. If Meadows comes back from whatever ailment he has at this particular time and is indeed healthy by next season Miggy may be blocking him but aside from that he isn't blocking anybody of note so I don't really care. If we had a bunch of promising bats in the minors that could get some reps with the open DH that would be another reason to want him gone but again that isn't the case. The only bat in the minors that I'm half way interested in seeing that figures to be ready by the start of next season is Carpenter but with Grossman gone along with maybe Willi there should be enough ABs to go around in the OF to give him regular at bats. This isn't to say that I'm opposed to getting rid of Miggy just that I'm completely apathetic to the whole thing, if he leaves great if he stays that's fine with me too.
  8. Before 2015 the Cubs won 1 playoff series in over a 100 years and of course zero championships. The Lions won 1 playoff game in the past 60 some years but have won numerous championships within the past 100. So I think it's fair to say that the Cubs were the more pathetic franchise at that point particularly when you factor in built in advantages like playing in the more desirable market, being one of the first teams to be broadcasted over cable so you can build a bigger fanbase and make your team more desirable along with bringing in more revenue. Despite having those advantages over the vast majority of teams they still sucked for most of the previous century.
  9. Just heard on the radio that Caesars has said their most popular bet thus far in July for the NFL is the Lions over 6 wins so it seems that not just Lions fans are drinking the Kool Aid. Also they said that Campbell is currently getting the most action for COY.
  10. When Soto is at his best he looks as good as any reliever in baseball so there may be some execs/scouts that fall in love with those performances and overpay with the thought that they can find away to get those outings more consistently.
  11. I would love to trade for Soto and extend him but we're just not in position to do so at this time considering the lack of top end talent in the system and on the team. As others have mentioned it would probably start with Greene and/or Tork plus Skubal and some of the top guys on the farm and by the time we do that we'd be no better off then where the Nationals are now anyway. If Mize and Manning were healthy and pitching at a top flight level I MAY consider it with the mindset that we could possibly flip one or both of them to help recoup our losses but that obviously isn't the case.
  12. Lol yep, Terrance Gore is the modern day version. I don't remember the stat but it it was in a similar vein. Essentially he's been put on a bunch of postseason rosters lately only to be a pinch runner late in the game.
  13. I prefer a bat just cause I feel they are more likely to make an impact on your record than a SP but if you can get a pitching prospect that is viewed as a tier or 2 higher than the bat you can get then Id probably take the pitcher. This of course is under the assumption you done your homework on him and there are no obvious red flags in regards to possible injuries.
  14. ESPN with help from PFF put out their top 15 sophomores most likely to break out and Alim McNeil was number 10 on the list. A big reason why they say that is because according to their metrics he had his 2 best games to close the season and seemingly got better as the season went on. If him breaking out does hold true, Okwara comes back healthy and Aidan can make an immediate impact that D-Line could be real good.
  15. I know the Lions were burned by going all in on guys from a smart and successful team but despite that I definitely like the idea of going after somebody from the Dodgers, Cardinals or Braves type organization. Yeah in the Dodgers case it helps to have the resources they have but money can't be the only reason they churn out and develop prospects hand over fist.
  16. Ever since the Royals won the WS with a dominant bullpen teams do seem to be willing to pay a little more for stud relievers at the deadline vs. other positions. For example the Cubs gave up a top 5 overall prospect in Torres for a half of year of Chapman and we also got a good haul for Justin Wilson ourselves by getting Candelario and Paredes. I know there have been several more "overpays" for relievers but those are just two off the top of my head.
  17. I keep forgetting that next year is the first year of the draft lottery, I keep telling myself that we're probably going to get a top 3 pick this year based off our record but if the Tigers have any type of luck like the other Detroit teams do in the draft lottery they will probably be picking as far back as the rules say they can.
  18. “He’s going to be a good second baseman,” Pleis said. “You can see his emotion and competitiveness on the field, and how he wants to win. He’s a gritty guy, his teammates love him, too." Yep those are definitely all the things you need to play a good second base.
  19. Here's Law take on Jung. Of course this was before we picked him so since he hates us he may not still feel the same way.
  20. I remember when we drafted Tork somebody posed a question on the old board if we'd be ok if he ended up like Paul Konerko. The over whelming response was we'd be disappointed(myself included) now how many of us would kill for that outcome? That's not to say that Tork still can't surpass that comp but you start to temper your expectations the longer he is part of your system and you see him more.
  21. Defense can be underrated in terms of the effect it has on your record but it's also easier to acquire great defenders via trades/FA than it is to acquire plus offensive players. Also defense seems to be less predictable year to year so unless you are top tier its hard to know what you are going to get year to year.
  22. It's hard to get guys who are projected to provide plus defense up the middle and plus offense with the 13th pick. You're generally going to get guys with some question marks there, whether it be defense, hitting, lack of projection or age.(being young and not knowing how they will age)
  23. I've seen some comps to Max Muncy, if he were to end up like him that would definitely be a home run. I would even settle for something like a 2021 Robbie Grossman who can also handle 2B in small doses.
  24. Not saying he is necessarily wrong but let's face it no matter who we drafted Shep would've said it was a great pick. They could've picked me and he'd be like "He's 40 years old with a ton of message board experience so he's not some immature High School kid, he will bring a wealth of knowledge to the young tigers hitters. Great start to the draft for the Tigers!"
  25. From what I have gathered his arm isn't good enough for 3rd so if he's gonna stay in the IF it's likely going to have to be at 2B. But the bat has the potential to be good enough for the OF so if he ends up there it wouldn't be all bad, like most hitters its just going to come down to how well he hits.
