  1. Id be disappointed but if you compare him to other top 5 picks and prospects historically that would probably be considered a success. How about if he turns out to be Castellanos when he was with the Tigers with the bat but can play cf competently? Thats like a 110-120 ops+ for a cf. Id have to think that would be a win for the Tigers.
  2. Yeah I was thinking him or maybe a Mark Teixeira type if all goes well. Teixeira was consistently at or near All Star level but only had a couple seasons where he was really elite. That of course would be a solid turnout but at the time of the draft I was hoping he'd be more of a Goldschmidt type, the type of guy who you could basically pencil in to be a top 5 or 10 hitter every year so "only" being a Teixeira or Konerko would be somewhat disappointing based off how I felt at draft time.
  3. To me the only way you can really knock the trade without using hindsight is that if you think we could've gotten a better player than Meadows by dangling Paredes to other teams. Reason being is pretty much what Cas said, going into the season it would've taken a few unforeseen things happening for Parades to get consistent playing time here, and unfortunately for us those things did indeed end up happening.
  4. The horrible defense is frustrating but I can deal with it because they all make up for it with the bats....oh wait nevermind.
  5. The schedule is the main reason why I feel optimistic about them possibly getting 7 or 8 wins but as we see all the time it's hard to predict teams year to year. Many of these teams that I'm expecting to be terrible could very well end up being decent which would make the seemingly soft schedule not look so easy. I think anything more than 8 would require virtually everything going right on top of getting some luck with the schedule like having a couple of the stronger teams having key injuries or something when we play them.
  6. Asa Lacy was another one and he's been hot garbage every year thus far for the Royals in their system and not even in most people's top 100s anymore. Like 2018 with Mize it could be one of those years where nobody at the top ends of being any good.
  7. Yep I had similar experiences when I played the OF in High School. I imagine it's even tougher when the ball is coming off the bat at over 110mph like the Vlad Jr. ball vs. probably 85 or 90 like the ones I had to deal with.
  8. Considering how bad Haase looked on those first 2 pitches I guess I'll settle for a sac fly.
  9. A really good CF probably makes that look more routine but still a laser like that over your head is a tough play for most CFs so even though he didn't make it look the most graceful I would still say it's a good play.
  10. 113mph off the screws = out 70mph off the end of the bat = RBI single. Gotta love baseball.
  11. Petry is definitely my favorite of all the Tigers analysts, provides good pitching insight without the annoyance of being Jack Morris.
  12. So far atleast nobody in the top 10 picks of the 2018 draft have amounted to much of anything. Bart has struggled mightily in his time in the majors, Bohm has been below par, Kelenic has been atrocious and even last year's ROY India is now at a negative WAR this season. Guys in the middle of the first like Grayson Rodriguez(top 5 prospect in baseball right now), Logan Gilbert and Nolan Gorman all appear to be guys I'd rather have than Mize but as far as guys we realistically would've drafted I'm not sure we're any worse off with Mize than those guys.
  13. I'm cool with the throwbacks, especially if it is something they only wear like 10 times a year or something but it is weird to see all the love they are getting considering how disliked they were among many of the fans at the time. I wonder if they will go all out and have a matching floor for the jerseys too like most other teams do or if Gores will just be cheap and have them play on the red white and blue court despite wearing teal?
  14. I'm definitely not writing off Tork at all but I definitely have tempered my expectations and hopes. Based off of the publicity he got his last year in college and the hype he had I thought he had a legit chance to be a top 5 hitter in baseball in terms of just hitting the ball now I don't have those same expectations. I still think he can be a plus hitter, maybe even an All Star Level guy if everything goes right but being a true silver slugger type guy I'm starting to doubt. But admittedly this could all just be recency bias and putting too much emphasis on how he looks at the moment. If he crushes the ball the rest of the year my views may suddenly change.
  15. Im worried about Tork,if this was another organization maybe I wouldn't be but our track record of developing guys or fixing any problems isn't good to say the least so when I see a player struggle like he has it is concerning. It seems like he is struggling most with his bat speed which was one of the things that nobody was concerned about pre draft or early in the minors so I find it unlikely he would suddenly lose that speed in his early 20s. Im hoping that it comes out he has been playing with an injury all season and that is the cause of his problem. Of course I don't want anything major that could keep him out next year and beyond but something that can be fixed in the offseason and he will be ready to go by Spring Training.
  16. Baseball Gods scouring the Tigers system "hmm this guy looks like he is having a good season time for him to get hurt and go on the IL"
  17. I don't want to get sidetracked but I do find it a little comical that playing for a contender or not is the difference between you getting vaxed or not.
  18. Heyman says that he is hearing that Benintendi told the Yankees he will indeed get the vaccine.
  19. Benintendi to the Yankees for 3 minor leaguers who's names I haven't seen mentioned yet. Benintendi is unvaxed so with Toronto playing in their division and possibly being a team they see in the playoffs that could come into play if the Yankees can't convince him to get vaccinated.
  20. Manning's night is done. Finished with 5 2/3 shutout innings on 85 pitches with 6Ks and 2BBs, both of which came in 6th inning. Not sure what the stuff looked like or if there were alot of "loud outs" but at first glance it appears to be a positive outing.
  21. Manning's cruising tonight thus far with 5 shut out innings with 6Ks and no walks, only taken 71 pitches so far too.
  22. I disagree, if we could get a quality prospect(s) then sure but if its just going to be a Travis Demeritte type or whatever like I suspect than I much prefer to keep him. Yeah we would save 10 million without him but we don't have any real in house replacements him anyway so it would just create another hole you have to spend money on. Perhaps I'm underestimating the market for him and we could indeed get back something of quality but my gut tells me that isn't the case.
  23. I would agree with this, he also has more of a pedigree reaching top 20ish prospect status where as I don't think Boyd was ever close to that so I definitely like his odds of being good more than I did Boyd at any point but I also would not be surprised if he just ends up being the guy he has been overall this season which is a high 3 ERA that has great stretches but bad stretches as well. That of course wouldn't be the worst result in the world but ideally he does surpass that.
  24. Possibly but I believe the Tigers should keep him just cause I don't think they would get much in return anyway. I think there is a better chance Jeimer bounces back close to his 2020/2021 levels and helping the Tigers the next couple years than whatever C level prospect we get turning into anything.
  25. Coming in to today he has a 1.500 OPS the last 15 days and a .923 for the month of July.
