Of course the game I don't watch this week the offense goes off. Box score scouring and it's nice to see Keith have himself a great game, also couldn't help but notice that the White Sox have thrown 205 pitches in 8 innings. Maybe it happens more often than I think but its wild to me to see the 200+ number in total pitches category.

This team just lacks major league caliber players, particularly on offense. I get frustrated with their approach and how they just seem too pass up too many good pitches but the fact is most of this lineup quite frankly shouldn't be in the major leagues at this point. You look at today's lineup for example and it featured only 2 guys who were blue chip prospects and 1 of them in Keith looks to not be ready for major league pitching. The rest were guys like Perez, Kriedler, Malloy and Rogers who were all viewed as fringe major leaguers at best and washed up vets that likely wouldn't be in any teams every day lineup in Urshela and Cahna. Granted I still would expect more than 6 runs for a week's worth of baseball like they put up this week but with this little talent you're never gonna produce consistent results. With Carpenter being injured, Tork turning into a pumpkin and Keith not hitting like we hoped any preseason hopes we had for this team to be competitive have gone out the window. If those 3 were performing like we hoped going into this season the offense would be looking a lot better.

We joked when the Tigers scored 13 runs against the Astros about it being their runs for the week and things like that but since that game a week ago the Tigers have scored 5 runs total. Turns out we were being a way too generous when we thought 13 runs was a weeks worth.

We're almost half way through Saturday and the Tigers are sitting on 4 runs scored for the entire week.

Yep, I'd be interested in hearing Mark's take on him and whether he's a guy that is turning himself into a legit prospect or not cause the stats definitely indicate that he is.

I swear just like every offseason we have an "Offseason thread" it feels like every summer we have a "Pistons Head Coach Search" thread as well.

I too am a skeptical of Rodgers. Between his age, coming off a serious injury and the fact that last season he played he was mediocre at best. OTOH he was the MVP in 21 and 22 so he isn't THAT far removed from elite play but he is at that age and point where he could easily fall off a cliff like Peyton Manning, Drew Brees and several other athletes not named Tom Brady did.

Yep that's why high end relievers also can fetch a relatively high return due to their extra importance in the playoffs.

Skubal hit 2 batters, gave up 2HRs and another RBI hit all with 2 strikes. Had no problem getting whiffs and getting ahead in the count but just couldn't quite finish them off.

Bonds for me for sure but if you want to throw him and other steroid guys out then I'd go with Pujols just cause of the value I put on your prime and hitting. You could also make a strong case for guys like Maddux and Randy Johnson if you wanted to go with pitchers.

I remember taking Norris with the 3rd pick in our adopt a Tiger draft back in 2016. I also remember the last series of the year in 2016 against the Braves I believe where we still had an outside chance at the WC he went out and dominated. His stuff was so electric, I vividly remember posing the hypothetical question in the game thread of "Would you take Norris over Fulmer going forward?" due to the stuff he was featuring then.

Last time the Tigers made the playoffs Derek Jeter was still playing, Jose Abreu was the Rookie of the Year and AJ Hinch was just named manager of the Astros.

They need to try something different at the plate. Granted they have so many holes they're not gonna score a bunch of runs regularly but too many things need to go right for them to bunch together runs with the approach they have. To me when you have a team like ours your better off just hacking away and hoping you run into a few. Trying to score runs by stringing together a bunch of singles and walks with a bunch of sub par OBP guys that don't steal bases is just asking for trouble.
-
It would be the 6th time in 12 games they scored 1 run or less.
-
You got the Astros swinging at the first and second pitches trying to do damage meanwhile the Tigers are sitting there taking pitches, "working the count" and trying to "go up the middle". I just don't agree with that approach in this day and age for a number of reasons most notably that in today's game even if you get ahead in the count pitchers don't throw "get me over pitches" anymore when behind so you're not going to get a cookie, you're going to get just as tough of pitch to hit. Also starters don't pitch as long anymore so no need to try to make them work and get to the middle relief since you're likely going to get there anyway.

lol literally the pitch before Dan was talking about how good of base running Kriedler had last game and he immediately proceeds to make a major base running blunder.

Lee with another great game down in Erie, only a HR away from the cycle going 3-4.

I'd take Mahomes and Allen over Goff for sure but outside of them there isn't anybody that I feel confident enough to say that I'd for sure take them over FOR THIS TEAM RIGHT NOW. If I felt confident that he'd stay healthy I'd throw Lamar into that as well. It would definitely be nice to have a guy with more mobility when things break down but given our O line at the moment those times thankfully don't happen too often so the most important thing for us is a guy who makes good decisions is precise with his throws while still having the ability to make those "big time throws" like Goff is capable of.

I saw that on Simms' rankings he had Burrow at number 3 and Goff 10. Here's their numbers the past 2 seasons, you can throwout the totals since Burrow played less games, pay more attention to the rate stats and you will see that there is virtually no difference in most. Some Goff is slightly better at others Burrow is yet Burrow is treated as this top tier guy and Goff even at 10 was put there with some trepidation. https://stathead.com/football/versus-finder.cgi?request=1&seasons_type=perchoice&player_id1=BurrJo01&p1yrfrom=2022&p1yrto=2023&player_id2=GoffJa00&p2yrfrom=2022&p2yrto=2023 https://stathead.com/tiny/JPmxY

Mize with 3 swings and misses today after producing just 2 his last start. For reference Skubal produced 7 in the first 11 pitches he threw last start. I basically had no expectations coming into this season for him due to the TJ recovery but if he continues to miss these little of bats with the sketchy command he has things could get ugly fast for him.

Aaron Judge hit another HR today to give him 25 on the year and a projected 59 for the season. His current 217 OPS+ would project to be the best non Bonds MLB season since Mantle in 57. If he were to finish the season at that number he would join Mantle, Ruth, Bonds, Williams and Gehrig as the only MLB players ever to have a full season that high.(Soto hit that number in the COVID year of 2020) I hate to say this about a member of the Yankees but it almost feels like Judge has been a bit underrated when you factor in the historical numbers he has posted the last few years. He is putting up numbers that only Bonds can match in the last 60 or 70 years. Legit historical stuff.

Tigers announce new premium seating 'Home Plate Club' coming to Comerica Park in 2025 - https://www.wxyz.com/sports/tigers-announce-new-premium-seating-home-plate-club-coming-to-comerica-park-in-2025 I was wondering if/when the Tigers would upgrade their seating around home plate and Apparently it is coming next season.

Pound him like he's Robin Ventura.

Miller with 3Ks and a weak groundout to the 4 batters he faced. Job well done!

Tigers Brass: "Hobbs we don't want you to swing for the light towers, try working the count and putting the ball in play."
