Catcher drops the would be 3rd strike foul tip to extend the at bat then the very next pitch Rogers drills the grand slam!!
-
Yep on a laptop.

On chrome but yeah that's exactly what happened. I've done it before though and I don't remember it doing that but I'll have to remember to keep this in mind if it happens again.

I have no idea why that triple posted but I guess it is so important it needed to be posted several times.

Yet another reminder that you can never have too much pitching. I remember at the start of the season people including national outlets like Fangraphs talking about how much pitching depth we have with our slotted starting 5 along with Manning, SGL and possibly somebody like Madden from the minor leagues. Well here we are in July and out of the 8 or 9 guys mentioned only Flaherty and Skubal are left standing, the rest are either injured or completely ineffective.

2024 Trade Deadline Rumors and Discussion
RandyMarsh replied to LongLiveMaroth's topic in Detroit Tigers
I mean Harris has already turned Gregory Soto into Matt Vierling who while not being a star has shown the ability to be a league average bat who can play adequate enough defense and be an everyday player. Also turned half a season of Lorenzen into Hao-Yu Lee who has been one of our more exciting prospects. -
2024 Trade Deadline Rumors and Discussion

Yeah one of the rare things I've been right about, admittedly I didn't expect him to be an All Star even though I did feel he had that potential with the bat atleast. I was always worried about his defense but felt his potential upside with the bat as he showed in 2020 was worth hanging onto. -
Yeah I was there in 2008 to see the Tigers and I had similar feelings. Walking around the corridors and concourse and you just didn't get the feeling that you were at a baseball game or stadium. Some parts felt like you were walking through an airport or mall to me. Side note about this game, this was in April of 2008 when our heavily hyped team was off to that disastrous start so Blue Jay fans were giving us the business. I remember saying something like "Don't worry we'll be in 1st place by the end of the year"..... yeah not so much.

Just saw a couple highlights of the game and first impressions outside of the win was how different Rogers Centre looked. I guess it's kinda sad that it took me this long in the season to realize they made changes but when I saw the highlight I momentarily thought they may be playing in some other stadium in Canada that I never heard of.

2024 Trade Deadline Rumors and Discussion

Edman and Mark would know better but Ive always been under the impression that most teams and in most instances teams just take who they feel is the bpa(except for money situations) and not based off of a specific timeline. There are exceptions like when DD drafted possible mlb ready relievers high that one draft but for the most part Im of the belief that things like big league needs or timelines aren't taken into consideration. -
Not a subscriber so I don't have any details but I saw on Facebook that Baseball Prospectus' updated their top 50 post draft and 4 Tigers made the list. Jobe at number 3, McGonigle at 20, Clark at 35 and Rainer at 50.

If that were a Piston I'm sure JEIII's write up would be about how all the misses were tough luck and that he was "active" all game making an impact despite his bad luck misses.

https://www.espn.com/espn/story/_/id/40446224/top-100-athletes-21st-century Pujols, Trout, Kershaw, Miggy, Ichiro, Bonds, Verlander, A-Rod, Ortiz and Scherzer in that order were the 10 MLBers to make the top 50 for greatest athletes of the 21st century.

Yeah no thanks on Aiyuk for the reasons already mentioned. Sure it would be nice to have another weapon since you really can never have too much but there are far better ways to use money/assets then on another receiver when you already have guys like St. Brown, LaPorta and an elite running game.

2024 Trade Deadline Rumors and Discussion
RandyMarsh replied to LongLiveMaroth's topic in Detroit Tigers
I can see how the Orioles and their fans would be hesitant to do some of the proposed trades on here, I know I would be if the roles were reversed. Fans are always timid to trade their prospects and potentially end up looking silly if those prospects pan out but at the same time when you already have a stacked young team sometimes it makes sense to "overpay" to potentially get a guy that could put you over the top. Also with how well Orioles prospects have panned out at the big league level it probably makes it even harder for them to swallow to trade them. If you were a fan of a team who watched a bunch of "can't miss prospects" fail at the big leagues you probably would be more open to trade them for a proven guy but atleast in recent history that hasn't been the case with the Orioles. So yeah I can get their viewpoint. -
I'm unfamiliar with the Tampa-St. Pete area but I remember the old narrative about low Rays attendance was not only due to the park being crappy but the location in St. Pete vs. being in Tampa. Any truth to that? If there is I don't see how a new stadium would really help things if it's in the same location, might boost things the first year but after the new car smell is gone if it's still a hassle for most folks to get to then it seems like they will have the same issues.
-
Does that make the new stadium official then? If so with that and the potential A's move to Vegas that would make Comerica Park the 11th OLDEST stadium in the majors. Kinda wild to think about.

I loved the Josh Hamilton show at the old Yankee Stadium in 2008. I dont think I really been into the derby since then but that night it was electric.

The: "Can we not do this anymore?" 2024 MLB Draft
RandyMarsh replied to 1984Echoes's topic in Detroit Tigers
I do agree with KL2 on this matter though, these guys are so far away and so many things can change by the time they get here Im not gonna worry about what side of the plate they hit at this point In 2-3 yrs we very well may have signed, developed or traded for multiple RH bats for our lineup. -

Id have no problem buying if it's for guys under control for atleast a couple years that could help in 2025 and beyond. Id be hesitant to go after a rental though for a 25-30% shot at the playoffs.... unless they could be had for cheap in which case sure go ahead. -

Keeping Flaherty also gives us exclusive negotiation rights for the next few months if we decide we want to extend him. -
I didn't get a chance to mention in yesterday's thread but I went out to the bar with some old friends last night and the Tigers game was of course on and I have to tell you that it was the closest I came since our glory days to a "playoff atmosphere" among bar patrons. Maybe it was because there was nothing really of note on TV so everybody was glued to the Tigers game but it was wild seeing everybody in the bar all interested in the game and getting vocal during key plays/spots like you would see for a big playoff game. Really made me long for the days of the actual big Tigers game and showed me that atleast on this night at this place there are people that are dying to see a good product on the field.

Damn looks like I picked the wrong game to miss. Great to see our light hitting 2b come up with a clutch HR in the 9th!
