Liranzo getting the Bonds treatment now?

Future generations will call the stereotypical AAAA player an Akil Baddoo.

It's always a catch 22 when it comes to how physical your practices are. On one hand I do believe the harder you go at practice the harder you will go during the games and better you will potentially play. OTOH having practices like that open you up to the possibilities of injuries.

Fangraphs posted an article today about teams records against everybody else but the White Sox. Interesting enough we'd only be a few games of KC and the last wild card spot in that scenario. Really the only difference between us and them is that they are 12-1 against the White Sox and were "only" 5-1. If the schedules were different and we played them 13 times by this point and KC played them 6 we very well could be sitting right where their at in the last WC spot.

I was trying to figure out who "CDIII" was when I read that tweet. Didn't know that was a Davis nickname.

Javy has around a .700 OPS the past few weeks, honestly if he could just maintain something close to that next year it would really help this team.
-
Urshela has a 4-4 game going and it kinda gets lost behind Rogers 7 RBIs and Carpenter's 2 HRs.

Kerry Carpenter effect!

A Carpenter, Keith, Greene middle of the order is potentially something you can build a lineup around......if they can actually all stay healthy.

Gibbs is his hamstring per Schefter.

Yeah he's done for the season in WM, may beable to play in the AFL though if the Tigers had intentions of sending him there.

Yeah, never played past high school but played at a pretty high level there(not necessarily me but people I played with and against) having made the final 4 in states one of the years and also playing a few years of AAU ball against quite a few guys who ended up making the pros at some level. Anyway I just remember how much better those guys who "only" ended up being minor leaguers looked then guys like me and most other regular players. I remember Chris Getz who is now the White Sox GM was a guy who had a real reputation in our circles and he didn't disappoint the times I faced him. Looked like Mike Trout compared to most of us so seeing how good even these fringe major leaguers or minor leaguers were as teenagers compared to your regular varsity baseball player makes me appreciate just how good everybody in the majors is.

If Goff were to get injured early on and miss the entire season I think it would be highly unlikely we make a deep playoff run no matter who our backup is but what I'm more concerned about is if he suffers a minor injury that causes him to miss 5-6 weeks or something. In that regard I would like to have somebody that could atleast win you 2-3 of those games so your season doesn't go to complete crap. A recent example is Cooper Rush in 2022, he started 5 games when Dak got hurt and he went 4-1 to save Dallas' season from going in the crapper. He wasn't great or anything but he was good enough to win with given the rest of the talent on the team. That's all I'm really looking for in our backup and I just don't see even that with Sudfeld.

IIRC at one point all were within the top 30 on some lists with Tork, Mize and Greene all being in the top 10 on atleast 1 of them. Still though I don't think they had the depth that the system seems to have now in regards to the national lists recognition, as I mentioned above I've seen atleast 8 different guys make some major top 100. I don't think we've had that many different guys get that type of hype before.

Aaron Judge at 220 OPS+, Bonds topped it 4 times but other than him that number hasn't been topped since Mantle and Williams. We're witnessing one of the greatest offensive seasons any of us have ever seen.
-
Same, the times I watched him at Tennessee he basically looked like a pocket passer with some mobility but not a real threat to tuck and run. THen again those SEC defenses may have been faster than these 3rd stringers playing for the Giants. lol

The thing is it's not just hindsight many were questioning it at the time. For clarification I didn't hate all the moves at the time but I did question trading down and passing on Turner and Torrence. Torrence was a consensus 1 or 1B guard in the draft and Turner was viewed as one of the 2nd tier CBs. Oh well we're only a year in so who knows how it will turn out and even if it doesn't turn out well even the best miss from time to time.

A rare Holmes blunder. Hooker pick aside at the time I didn't get it and I still don't get why he traded back from 55 in the first place. KC ended up getting Rasheed Rice who would look good in a Lions uniform right now, not to mention, DJ turner being picked 2 picks later and O'Cyrus Torrence being picked 3 later. Even at the time many including myself felt those guys would be great picks for us and fill potential needs but obviously Brad didn't think so. Oh well hard to get too upset given what we ended up with that draft.

lol a rare time where the defense challenges a play ruled a fumbled.

Bates drills a 53 yarder in the rain!

Sudfeld is so horrible.
-
Granted it's the preseason so I don't expect a Gus Johnson type excitement but boy this Play by Play guy is extremely dull!
-
Yep, also the benefit of having more is that if you do ever get to the point where you want to be a buyer you have plenty of ammunition and don't have to worry about emptying out the cabinet if you do have to trade a couple premium guys. But to your point I've seen Clark, Jobe, McGonigle, Jung, Ranier, Hamm, Briceno and Liranzo on atleast 1 of the national lists with "the big 3" all being in the upper half in just about all of them.
-
Was really hoping to see Jamo, the rest I kinda figured weren't going to play or are proven commodities where I kinda know what I'm getting with them. Edit: You can add Levi and Paschal to that as well, wouldve liked to see them too.

I could see Madden turning into an Alex Faedo type but that may be his ceiling which is a bit disappointing. When they drafted him I thought if he didnt make it as a starter he would atleast be a shutdown back of the bullpen guy but as of now that doesnt look like it's in the cards.
