Not impossible for the prospects you receive at the deadline to turn out to be good, lets hope the Tigers got 1 or 2 of them this deadline.
-
On top of the great draft they also got Holmes, Campbell and Goff in the offseason, add them all up and it could end up being one of the great offseasons of all time. Potentially got their franchise GM, Head Coach, QB, Offensive Tackle and WR all in the same offseason.

Crazy to think that Trout and Judge are both 32 years old. Trout will be 33 next week but still it feels like Judge is so much younger than him.
-
To me Trout is a no brainer first ballot HOF if he retires tomorrow. Was the best player in the world for almost a decade, has 3MVPs and another 2 runner ups. His career OPS+ of 173 is only topped by Ruth, Williams, Bonds, Gehrig and Hornsby.

2024 Trade Deadline Rumors and Discussion
RandyMarsh replied to LongLiveMaroth's topic in Detroit Tigers
I think Mike is just as much to blame as Avila for how things went. It wasn't Avila's decision to sell guys in 2015 only to then turn around and "go for it" and sign guys like Upton and Zimmermann. Mike didn't decide to throw in the towel until JV was at his lowest value, JD was a rental and Kinsler was past his prime. Knowing Avila we still wouldn't have gotten anything but if he could've went full rebuild after 2015 and traded JD with 2 full years of control, Kinsler with 2 more years of control and coming off a 3rd straight 5 WAR season and a younger JV he certainly would've gotten a better return. Whether those guys would've panned out is another story but I can almost guarantee that there would've been much more demand. -
I predict in about 10 years Madris is going to be one of the top answers to a "Forgotten Tigers" or "Obscure Tigers" question/thread.
-
The Royals are an example of what can happen for a team like them or the Tigers when everything goes right. They have Witt putting up an all time great season, 100 yr old Sal Perez hitting better than he did in his prime, Seth Lugo pitching like prime Maddux along with a host of other things. Because of all those things they very well may be looking at the playoffs instead of being sellers like us.

2024 Trade Deadline Rumors and Discussion

I don't know if he tried and there just weren't any trades in this regard that made sense for the Tigers but I wouldve liked to see them take on the Cubs approach. The Cubs sold players that weren't going to be there next year and threw into the towel on this year but were buyers on players that could help them next yr and beyond like Isaac Paredes. I feel like the Tigers are in a similar situation to them and are potentially close enough next year where they could've been buyers for players like that and still sold off guys like Flaherty and Chafin. -
Levi did produce 3 straight 70+ PFF graded games including a 7th best DT score of 80 in week 18 so he showed some promise. Considering how virtually every Holmes early to mid round picks took big steps in year 2 or 3 I wouldn't be surprised if Levi does the same since this is essentially only his 3rd yr.

We can't complain about our past GM that settled for too little then complain about our current one asking too much and not immediately settling. Sure there was a chance he turned down a better offer last week by waiting but Id rather him take the chance and hope that a better offer comes then take one of the first ones he gets cause he's worried a better one wont come. -

Also the people that bitch about the spending were spoiled by Mike and his lack of care about the bottom line. Even if Chris were to sell the team you're not going to get an owner in here that is going to spend big given our market and overall revenue. We're not one of those teams with giant TV deals that can support a big payroll so were always going to be in the middle when it comes to spending. At some points maybe a little higher if it appears we're on the winning trajectory and some points lower when we're further away from winning. -
Ball Boy the only person in a Tigers uniform to make a play thus far.
-
Good to see a Shelton cameo even if it is just to call out how a stat is presented.
-
I'm skeptical of how DIngler is going to do in the majors but it's nice to have another guy in the lineup that you can atleast watch and hope turns into something. We already know what guys like Jake Rogers are but with guys like Dingler you can atleast hope they turn into plus hitters.
-
We've all been saying that "they can't pay everybody" but it appears the Lions have other ideas. If they do indeed sign McNeil the only other guy of note other than last year's rookies is Hutch and you know they aren't letting him go.
-
The reason I said it may be a slight overpay is that this now makes him the 7th highest paid tackle in the league and most don't actually think he is the 7th best. Of course that always isn't the best way to look at things since contracts are going up every year and some of the guys making less than him will be signing new more lucrative contracts so he's probably going to drop down that list in due time.
-
May be a slight overpay but nothing egregious and certainly beats the alternative of losing him in a year. Also have heard or read some concerns about his age but many of the best linemen in the league are Decker's age or older so it certainly wouldn't be a surprise if he is still solid or better in 2-3 years.

2024 Trade Deadline Rumors and Discussion

I wish we could just work out an extension with him. I know given his history and pitchers in general it's a risk but I think it's one worth taking. Its mainly a gut feeling but he just strikes me as a pitcher who barring injury is going to age well and be effective for the next several years. -
I see Keith went 0-4 which sucks but he again didn't have a strikeout which is nice to see. Only had 1 all week in fact which is impressive in this day and age especially for a power hitter like him. He's going to be real special at the plate if he continues to put the ball in play as much as he has.
-
I guess we were due for a game like this since we hadn't been shutout in over a month prior to this. Also only the 3rd time since then we scored less than 3 runs.

https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/isaac-paredes-670623?stats=statcast-r-hitting-mlb Worth noting that aside from Paredes getting "expensive"(by Rays standards) another reason they may have traded him is that his statcast numbers suggest that he shouldn't be hitting nearly as well as he have. Granted that isn't gospel as they said the same thing last year but when you make as weak of contact as he does sooner or later you have to think it will catch up to you. Also worth noting for the Cubs sake, Paredes has 16 HRs this year but only 10 of them would have been out at Wrigley Field so one of the things aiding his offensive numbers maybe negated or diminished at Wrigley further hurting his value. -
Keith with a BOMB to make it 7-2...of a lefty no less! Along with this HR and triple he also just missed another HR earlier in the game that barely went foul. Also only has 1 strikeout total this week in 24 ABs.
-
Javy Baez has homered in 3 straight games, before this he had 3HRs total in the last Calendar year!
-
This is the Javy we were expecting when we signed him! Knew he was going to be an OBP liability but we figured we'd get some HR power.
