  1. I'm not giving up on him but after hearing what Mark had to say it does feel like the Tigers have lost a little faith in him in terms of being a long term starter and they obviously know alot more about him than we do. Also he's certainly not old having just turned 24 but considering he was a 3 year college player at a high level program and is now in his 3rd year of pro ball and it seems like he still hasn't developed that third pitch makes me skeptical that he ever will. With that said even if he doesn't develop that and is relegated to the bullpen in this day and age where starters are pitching less innings and more relievers are pitching multiple innings he could still provide quite a bit of value if he ends up being a really good multi inning guy.
  2. I remember after that draft there were a couple national guys that pegged Madden as one of the guys they thought could reach the majors first from the class. Atleast one of them brought up the Chris Sale comparison in regards to how he could be fast tracked and used. Considering we are now 3 years later and he is still in AA tells me that he hasnt quite developed the way the Tigers were hoping.
  3. Considering how injury prone Buxton has been in his career I'm surprised it didn't hit him and take him out for the year.
  4. Yeah that's what I was thinking too. Also makes you wonder if AZ would've agreed to the 24 first instead of pick 34 how different things could've been for us. We probably wouldn't have LaPorta(I say prob cause they still could've traded up to get him) who was a key part in our season this year and presumably will be for the foreseeable future. OTOH having pick 4 in this draft would be amazing whether we decided to keep it and take somebody like Marvin Harrison or trade it for a haul. If we played it right and the picks ended up working out we'd probably be set up better in the future with the 24 1st scenario but considering how important LaPorta was for us last year it's hard to say if we would've still accomplished all we did last year without him. All hypothetical of course seeing as Arizona had no interest giving up that future 1st but things like this are always fun for me to think about.
  5. Definitely the first time seeing something like this, them asking for anybody to coach first base brings me back to my High School days where we didn't have a full time 1st base coach so whomever made the last out the previous inning had to do it. Needless to say I was "coaching" first base alot cause of that.
  6. Granted it was against arguably the best team in baseball but seeing how lifeless the White Sox looked against the Braves last night makes me feel a little more skeptical of our start. #debbiedowner
  7. Dude for the Panthers just DRILLED a 64yd kick to take the lead with 2 seconds left. Why and the hell isn't he in the NFL or better yet on the Lions? edit: K now I know why, they just showed the graphic and this was his first FG attempt since HS, didn't kick at all in college or anywhere else in organized football so he must have just came out of nowhere. If this is a sign of things to come he will be in the NFL next year for sure.
  8. BTW I was only following on gameday but did the announcers give any reason why Foley wasn't used in the 10th? Was he unavailable or something?
  9. Looking at the box score and what stands out to me is that while the Tigers struck out twice in the 10th, in the first 9 innings they only struck out once in 43 plate appearances. In this day and age that is remarkable and borderline unheard of!
  10. While I dont like the gimmick I'm sure it's not for me or any of us old timers on here, I'm sure it's to cater to the younger audience who may find things like that entertaining. In that regard I'm cool with it cause baseball needs to do whatever it can to attract younger folks.
  11. Considering the influx in gambling ads with sports maybe they can have a slot machine or something in the dugout and pull the handle after every homerun?
  12. I like this idea alot.
  13. It makes you wonder if Reynolds truly was a priority for the Lions or if they really didn't even want him back. Maybe they feel that DPJ or a potential WR draft pick could provide just as much or more for the offense if given the reps that Reynolds got.
  14. Another idea I was thinking of that isn't as drastic is setting a quarterly limit on how many 3s you can miss, not a hard limit but say after 10 or so misses every miss after counts as a loose ball team foul or something? So if you're making them you're rewarded by being able to keep firing but if you're not it prevents teams from just chucking them every possession.
  15. Haven't been keeping up with Maeda but were warning signs in Spring Training? I know the last couple months of the season last year he finished as one of the best starting pitchers statistically but maybe that was all just smoke and mirrors.
  16. Fangraphs pegged the Phillies bullpen to be the best in baseball....they responded by giving up 9 runs in their first game today.
  17. Box score scouring tonight and I noticed that Scoot Henderson had a tidy -58 +/-. don't think I've ever seen one that bad before.
  18. Introduce a 2.5 pt line in the mid range area?
  19. I was of course being tongue and cheek but I guarantee that tomorrow on the radio either a host(s) will be that reactionary or a caller(s) will be. It happens every year no matter the sport.
  20. If the Tigers win they are winning the division, if they lose they are finishing in last place so needless to say this is a MUST WIN!
  21. While the numbers may not have shown it I did feel like he looked alot better as a true WR the last month or so of the season including the playoffs. By that I mean he didn't just run go routes to the pylon, he was actually running a variety of different routes and making some impressive catches where he came back for the ball. Im hoping it's a sign of him growing as a receiver and showing that he can be more than just a deep threat or gadget guy.
  22. Even when he was drafted people were saying that there was a strong possibility that he'd end up in the bullpen so I can't say I'd be surprised if that is indeed where he ends up. The question is can he become a shutdown guy at the back end of it? If so there is definitely value in that so it wouldn't be the worst outcome for him.
  23. That makes sense but I wonder if the owners preferred the off day being on Friday while school is in session vs. a Sunday?
  24. Yeah I vaguely remember hearing about the construction mistake and I thought along the similar lines of just doing something with the stands instead. Admittedly I know nothing about things like this so I don't know how expensive or feasible it would be to just get rid of that last section of seats that overhang it that really blocks the bottom left hand corner of the scoreboard. It doesn't appear to be more than like a 100 seats so to me atleast it doesn't seem like it would be that big of deal to do.
