Shannon Hogan could handle all the on field reporting herself, she didnt need to be saddled with 4 people.

Yeah if it wasn't Swift then it probably be a constant shot at one of the players' parents.

I feel a win coming tonight! -
I rarely watch or read anything outside of sports and history stuff nor do I listen to any current music so I was pretty ignorant to her fame. I mean I obviously heard of her and knew she was one of the biggest stars but it wasn't until she played here and I watched the local news and how crazy everybody was until I realized that she wasn't just one of the bigger names but she was far and away the most famous star going. It especially made me do a double take when my 75 year old Step Dad who isn't into current pop culture brought up "being a Swiftie" the fact he would know the term for her fans really let me know how famous she was.

Max definitely doesn't skip leg day!

As I mentioned atleast according to PFFs rankings there appears to be several really good interior o lineman this FA so if Jackson were to leave we atleast have other options if we want to go the FA route.
-
Pff only had him as like the 70th or 80th best FA with atleast a half dozen interior lineman ahead of him, also projected his yearly cap hit to be around 8 million so atleast in their views he isn't going to cost a fortune.

I might be upset with the kicker too if it were my team but it's not fair to say that if he made the kick they would've won. Lets say he does and they go up 4, KC then knows they have to score a TD and their strategy completely changes once they get in their territory since now they know a FG does them no good. So if Moody makes that kick SF could've just as easily lost in regulation due to KC scoring a TD.
-
Down 3 around the red zone and facing a 4th and 3, Shanahan doesn't "take the points" instead goes for it and 2 plays later they score the TD and are back in front.

Yeah in theory that definitely is the idea but as we saw last year the key really is actually sacking the QB or atleast keeping him contained cause too many QBs nowadays work as good if not better when flushed out of the pocket or scrambling. Having another guy pressure from the other direction could help maintain that though and if you don't force the sack you can atleast keep him contained in the collapsed pocket which could lead to a bad or hurried throw.

I know it gets talked about sometimes but it's wild to look at those early 90s Tigers offenses and see just how great they were. Like in 1993 they had 6 guys with 400+ ABs finish with 130+ or more. That is insane and that doesn't even include Cecil Fielder who had 30 bombs and a 124+. Also got 90 PAs of 142+ from Eric Davis. If only they had any semblance of pitching.
-
I'd imagine it's hard for any projection system to nail down a team like the Tigers that is so dependent on players that are completely unproven or have such small samples like say a Tork or Greene. In Tork's case it's not super small but he suddenly turned into this major power threat in the last few months of the season so in that regard it's small and Greene has been productive when he plays but has missed so much time already. Pitching wise we have Maeda who probably isn't that hard to project but everybody else in the rotation just doesn't have much of a track record and/or is oft injured in the case of Skubal. These are the biggest reasons why the Tigers are probably one of the most volatile teams to project or predict this year and could be one of those teams where it looks like the projection systems got way wrong at the end of the year in the good or bad side. Lets hope it ends up showing that they were way too down on us.

Yeah I think Avila's vision was correct but he just didn't seem to execute them the right way or in terms of trading guys I think he either didn't identify the right players from the other team or didn't trade the guys at the right time(JV being the biggest example). I do think he put more resources into analytics and the player development side of things and understood the importance of that but by the time he took over and was able to do that we were already so behind other teams it was impossible to catch up in any short amount of time. Edman or Mark would definitely know more but it feels like we are now getting closer to majority of teams in those department, probably still way behind the top ones but I don't think we are near the bottom like we were.
-
Also to add to this at the time that draft was viewed much in the same regard as this coming one, one of the worst ones in recent history with really no definitive superstars. Multiple outlets actually had Killian as one of the rare ones that could potentially get there even if it was noted that he was a risk. Again though ultimately it's your job to pick the right guys regardless of situations but I think all things considered I do think there is atleast some explanation or excuse for drafting Killian. I think it's much less egregious than Stan taking Stanley Johnson with Winslow and Booker still on the board.
-
Also I will add that I guess ultimately it is your job to find the best player regardless of the situation I think he does deserve atleast some what of a pass due to the nature of that 2020 draft and everything that was going on in the world. With the short seasons and IIRC combine and other pre draft things being limited it did make things tougher to scout and prepare for in that draft. OTOH because of that it probably wasn't the best draft to trade up twice like he did because of those reasons.
-
Definitely glad he didn't go to the Yankees. I was 12 years old then and he was my favorite player(well aside from Fielder who everybody loved in my age group) but I didn't pay any attention to off the field stuff nor really how well they looked from a health standpoint. I just watched them at the plate and if they did well there that was good enough for me, paid no attention if they were always banged up or were struggling in the field etc and certainly didn't pay any attention to offseason rumors.
-
BTW I think most of the big national lists are done with now and from what I can gather the Tigers have 7 different guys make atleast one of the top 100s with Clark,Jobe,Jung,Keith,Meadows, McGonigle and JHM plus Ty Madden came in at 107 on ESPN's list so right on the cusp. Having 8 different guys viewed that highly seems like the most we have had in decades cause even a few years when our system was rated as one of the best I believe it was more due to the top 4 or 5 guys and then a big drop off after that. A really impressive turnaround in just a year or 2 after Harris took over. The previous regime definitely deserves some credit since some of the player development improvements started under them but I think Harris and Co. took it to another level.
-
I definitely think they could pull it financially and still keep whomever they were planning on keeping anyway but the problem(s) or risk for me come from the fact that they likely wouldn't be able to go outside the organization and bring in any help for things like the secondary and also the implications down the road by not having a 1st round pick. By that I mean you always want to have a cycle of young players that you can just plug in when your veterans are up for big contracts so you can either not pay those big contracts and plug in the young player or supplement any shortcomings on your roster from having said contracts with those young players. So by giving up a 1st that is one less player that we can do that with in 2 years when things may end up being a lot tighter for us payroll wise. But short term there is no doubt that the move makes us a lot better if Bosa is on the field cause it's highly unlikely who ever we pick with the 1st would have the impact he will the next 2 years.
-
Speaking of Dinwiddie I lose track of who was making the picks but it's kinda funny how in the 2010s we seemed to actually be relatively good at drafting 2nd round picks with him, Bruce Brown and Khris Middleton. Probably had more success than our 1st round picks in that time.

2/10 3:30PM EST Detorit Pistons @ LA Clippers
RandyMarsh replied to Tigeraholic1's topic in Detroit Pistons
I keep waiting for the Clippers implosion just cause I hate Harden so much but to his credit they have been one of the best teams in the league since he got there. Of course I don't know if that is because of him or just cause Kawhi is actually healthy and playing every night this year vs. the previous few years but regardless they have been really good thus far. -
I think most will agree that his drafting/player development has been the biggest issue. I put player development cause it's hard to say if those draft picks were just destined to fail regardless or would have been the right picks if they were in better situations and developed better but regardless we just haven't gotten enough out of our 1st round picks. Outside of Killian they all have had their moments but atleast to this point they just haven't shown them consistently enough to justify their selection outside of probably Cade but even he has had the obvious injury issues. I think if we hit on more of those 8 1sts he has used we probably wouldn't even be discussing any other potential issues cause we'd be looking at a playoff team right now or atleast a team that looks like they are heading in the right direction.
-
I saw somebody mention that and I think the host was Keegan-Michael Kay, a Detroit native and Huge Lions fans(think he was on the sideline for all the playoff games). It probably felt good for him to use that joke since for years the Lions would usually be the ones on the butt end of a line like that.
-
I saw one of the fan sites(probably Bleacher Report) throw out the scenario where we trade a first for Joey Bosa. At first I didn't think it was that bad of idea until I looked closer at Bosa's numbers and to me a 1st along with having to pay him 27 million each of the next 2 seasons isn't worth it. I do think the Chargers may consider it though since they reportedly are in a tough cap situation and that is a big number that they can get rid of. Also for the Lions it isn't that big of deal since they have the space the next couple years, but he's just been too banged up the last few years for me to feel comfortable giving up a 1st(even though it's a late one) for him. Especially since we may only have him for 2 years. I feel with how coveted those are we could potentially use that to find a more reliable player or just use it and draft a younger cheaper player that will be here longer. If I felt confident that he'd be healthy and be on the field every game or atleast nearly every game I may be for it cause he's still a force when he is out there and pairing him with Hutch would obviously be a deadly combination but I think that's too much of a risk at this point to give up a 1st and pay that salary for 2 years.
-
I don't know if it would fall under "wasted assets" but one move or lack there of that always sticks out to me was not trading Jerami Grant that first deadline we had him. Admittedly some of it is hindsight but I think most of it was common sense and something that reasonably should have been expected. Also there is the caveat that this comes with rumors and I don't know if there was any truth or concrete deals. Anyway At the time if you were to believe the rumors there were quite a few would be offers for Grant that deadline since he was under control for 2 1/2 years at a good rate and was performing well above his contract at the time. It appeared that he was coming into his own here and could command a really good return that could help the future. Seeing as we were still atleast 2 years away it didn't make a whole lot of sense in my mind to keep him cause by the time we were competitive he'd be up for a new contract anyway so if we really could get a haul for him it was a no brainer to trade him. OTOH in Weaver's defense I don't know what that "haul" was, maybe it wasn't that good and maybe Weaver felt that if Grant continued this efficient strong play he could command more in the offseason or next deadline since it would be a bigger sample size of strong play. Also it is worth noting that he was still able to essentially get a lottery pick so he atleast extracted some value but IF there truly were these pie in the sky offers like some of the rumors suggested I think it's fair to say he left alot on the table when given our team position at that time it made a ton of sense to sell him.
