welcome to the league will johnson, burned for a td. the d line looked really good. the oline wasnt impressive given their preseason billing and the quality of opponent. as far as the qb, its hard to tell because mccarthy was playing against a csu defense that was really worn down. and he really never had to make a read and throw. that said, he opens up the run game in a way macnamera never will because mccarthy has wheels. macnamera NEVER pulls the ball and runs. but even with that, macnamera was not impressive today. he looked pretty average. we figured the dtackles would be great and they were, but i thought they got some decent pass rush from various ends today. that's a positive. if they can get anything out of one of their ends the dline could be pretty good again. now, the linebackers? colson looked good. really hope he doesnt get hurt.

skubal is the only guy i would call a real development success and now he's hurt. he may be destined for the bullpen if his arm cant hold up. i dont pretend to be a prospect analyst. i know nothing about scouting. but i can see the results and the results of the other teams and know that the tigers arent very good at this. the only tigers prospects i have expectations for are greene and tork. and tork is....not living up to them yet.

i think 7 wins would be a good stepping stone into next season. Anything less would be a disappointment.

that's how i feel about the tigers. i dont really care anymore and i'm not going to go out of my way to watch them. we'll see what the new regime brings. only so much time in the day to do stuff.

i'm excited about red wings prospects (not as excited as 84...) because the guy running the show has a long track record of success and his first two draft picks finished 1 and 4 in rookie of the year voting. al avila has a track record of failure and until we get these guys out of the system and bring some new ones in, that record will likely continue. one or two might hit. the odds are that a couple will become good major league baseball players. but the vast vast majority will not. so i will continue to chuckle at the amount of excitement generated for A ball pitchers. hopefully i'm wrong and 84 is right.

yeah, i dont get the recriminations because we didnt trade lange. the most you would get is a guy who might be lange in three years. youve already got lange. might as well keep him and see if you can develop him more.

its not like youre trading relievers to get a superstar. you would have dealt them for a guy who might be a reliever in 3 years. maybe. and avila was doing the dealing, and that hasnt turned out to be too fruitful. so why trade them?
