  1. poor from hronek.
  2. is berggren hurt?
  3. killian is better than he was last year. unfortunately he was so bad last year that his improvement hasnt really helped all that much. bey has regressed mightily. stewart has been the same.
  4. i am a pessimistic person. so i always look at the downside of everything. i think weaver still gets the benefit of the doubt. i'm just not all that impressed so far. BUT ITS EARLY. i understand. grant may be a "feather in the cap" but what has it gotten us? 2 years of a good player on the worst team in the league? the pistons should be flipping grant for assets (and maybe they will this year), not sitting around watching him "lead" the team to 20 wins. i'll see what he does with grant moving forward.
  5. better learn to speak french.
  6. i'm not confident in the pistons' future at all. of course, i dont know how any detroit sports fan could ever be confident in the lions, lol. so in that way i guess i'm more confident in the pistons. but this roster is terrible. yes, i get that weaver had to work his way out from under the terribleness that was van gundy's roster and that cap space opens up next year, but space for what? what player is going to come here and make a difference? what little cap space we've had has been wasted for the most part. i like seeing cade confidently making threes like he did yesterday. i hope he keeps it up and gets stronger and turns into doncic or tatum. i just have to tell myself its a young team and it will get better. killian is getting better, cade shot well last night. bey shot ok if they stop trying to make him more than what he is, which is a 3 and d guy. stewart is a high energy rebounder. they should get a top 5 pick next year. there. that's about as positive as i can be for this team.
  7. the lockout is so they stop paying expenses, i would imagine. i dont know the details to it.
  8. yes, but the owners must be made out to be evil caricatures and the players to be saints. its a simple labor business negotiation with each side using whatever leverage they have to benefit their interests.
  9. pre-emptive lockout or there would have been a strike.
  10. they did shoot very well from 3 for most of the game. so that's something. okc just whooped them in the 4th. remember, okc just lost by 75 to memphis...
  11. i would put allen in the hall of fame. i also think there's a good chance he really was an ass hole.
  12. maybe. to g2's point, reagan got all "gun controlly" after the black panthers showed up with guns.
  13. i think as long as there is an illegal black market there will be violent crime. that activity will be filled by mostly poor, uneducated people on the margins of society as it always has. i expect it has more to do with america's massive market for illegal drugs and the way we have chosen to police that market. how many poor people are killed trying to run liquor into america? not many anymore.
  14. i imagine poor. why?
  15. what does ses mean?
  16. well if....squints...."ceoworld magazine" says so then it must be true. lol. ridiculous.
  17. i think it has to do with america's long history of extreme religious protestantism. our moralism about vices and "hang ups" on everything from sex to gambling and drugs/alcohol. but as to a point in time where the modern narrative surrounding baseball's issues with gambling, i think you are correct.
  18. ask al capone. the fact that drugs are illegal and are sold on the black market and that market is governed by violence instead of traditional legal contractual methods.
  19. last weekend in chicago, 9 people were murdered and 26 people wounded. a "mob" of teenagers also ran amok downtown, causing significant property damage, looting stores, and beating people up while stealing their phones and other property. i feel pretty safe, even though there have been 3 murders in my neighborhood in the last week and gunshots fired three blocks from my house last night. i guess it's all what youre used to!
  20. but it hasnt increased a lot nationally, but i think it has increased slightly. it has increased in certain places (like chicago). it increased a lot in the late 80s and early 90s (pre-internet, btw) due to the explosion in use of crack cocaine and the violent gangs that ran that industry. then it decreased substantially in the late 90s and into the 2000s. now, it has increased again in the late 2020s in certain areas, especially after the pandemic and the riots from that summer. why is it increasing? you get explanations from everything from the pandemic to decreasing incarceration in cities to police disengagement to the internet. i suspect that the increase in crime is different depending upon where you live. the one constant in crime is the availability of guns. i dont presuppose to know if local strict gun laws make a difference (i suspect a full ban on guns anywhere would make a difference). i think local gun laws in places like chicago are undermined by the availability of guns in cities adjacent to chicago and that most guns used by gangs are made by straw purchasers or stolen.
  21. ok. ymmv.
  22. it stems from the drug trade and the violent gangs that control it.
  23. he grew up in detroit and went to my high school (u of d cubs!) so him being a michigan fan is probably right.
  24. i've seen enough people call him an ass hole to think that where there is smoke, there is likely a little fire.
