For centerfield? Hill, Cameron, or the other Castro would have been options. And maybe don't move the third baseman to the outfield, allowing the batter to get a free bunt base hit. I can probably defend starting Rodriguez, given all the injuries. Although I'm willing to bet Keuchel would have been slightly better.
-
And yet people will still defend Hinch.
-
Keuchel is already signed to a Major League deal. He gets paid no matter what. No on is going to give more than minimum wage. He likely will have to pitch in AAA if he wants to get back to the Majors.
-
Whatever happened to, "you can never have enough pitching"? Keuchel will clear waivers and the Tigers will only be on the hook for the minimum salary. This is a lost season. There is literally no risk involved. I would hate to see our young pitching staff overworked because, "Keuchel wouldn't be any better." While this statement is true, we still need to have 5 starters in our rotation. Right now they only have 4 with the imposter Rony Garcia as the 5th. If not Keuchel, then the Tigers need to get someone. You can never have enough pitching.
-
If it doesn't work out in a few starts, then release him. There's 0 risk involved.
-
He can help by eating innings. With the amount of injuries the Tigers have, they are currently using one rotation day as a bullpen day. Having another starter, either Keuchel or someone else, would be better than taxing our bullpen.
-
I'll admit that I don't keep up with all the Tigers prospects. Brieske was only rated around 20th in the Tigers system. Does anyone really think he's going to be a starter in the Big Leagues long-term? If his ceiling is only that of a middle reliever, he can ditch his weakest pitch, if it is his curveball. The Tigers are only in this situation because the have 5 starting pitchers on the IL. If they have someone in their minor league system that can perform better than he has been, then of course I'm all for it. To me, Brieske seems to be their best option right now and I don't think his development is hurting at all. Just my 2 cents.

I hate bullpen days. I understand they may be necessary in case of an injury, but to make them a regular thing is silly. Too much risk of over-working your relief pitchers. Then they need a couple of days off and you are in no better position than before. Not to mention the injury risk. It's just not worth it. I think Brieske is fine. He'll learn a lot more from Fetter than whoever is in AAA. Sometimes the best development is at the ML level. The Tigers don't have many options for starters with all of their injuries. Do the Tigers even have anyone is AAA that will give us more innings than Brieske? I'm still wondering why they don't want to stretch Wily Peralta out. There are many things from Hinch to complain about, but the use of Brieske probably isn't one of them.

Honestly, I never understood the comparison between Miggy and Garcia. I'm honestly surprised that Garcia has been as productive as he has in his career. I thought he would be out of baseball altogether by now. He always seemed like a Brennan Boesch type of guy to me.
-
Does it have to be a former Cub, or can it be any weak hitting outfielder? Or does it have to be a former team that Grossman played for, like an ex-Twin or ex-Athletic? Let me just throw out Jacque Jones to cover all my bases.
-
Is Baez a disappointment so far? Sure. The difference now is expectations. Baez is suppose to be hitting better than he is right now while Perez was never expected to be a productive hitter. Based on past performance, it is reasonable to expect that Baez' numbers will be better by the end of the season than they are right now. It seems obvious now that you just picked a former weak hitting Tiger shortstop that was also a former Cub to base the comparison and never actually wanted a statistical analytical discussion.

Baez clearly strikes out more and walks less. However, when he connects, he's a much better hitter, hitting for much more power. Perez was just a weak hitter for the Tigers. Sure, he made more contact, but that did a lot less damage than when Baez makes contact. They are not a similar type of hitter at all.

That's all true, but it does show that 100 losses is all within the realm of possibilities this year.
-
The Tigers would have to go 50-73 the rest of the way to avoid losing 100 games. That's a .407 winning%. Currently they are playing .333, on pace for a 54-108 record.
-
Step 1: Fire Coolbaugh.
-
Any mistakes that AJ Hinch makes.
-
Is there a reason why they don't want to stretch out Wily Peralta to be a starter? With all the starting pitchers dropping like flies and his experience in starting, seems like they would have done this weeks ago. What's their reasoning for keeping him in the arm barn?

I would get rid of both Avila and Hinch, similar to how they got rid of both Randy Smith and Phil Garner 20 years ago. Start fresh all around, although I would to keep Fetter.

Did you ever get the feeling that the players are purposely not giving 100% because they are trying to get the manager fired?

Do we still like the Baez signing? Barnhart? Rodriguez? Baddoo? If Avila hasn't made any bad moves in 2 years, why do so many people want him fired?

The Tigers just need to win one of the their next two games to have a better record than their horrible start from last year. And then win 9 of their next 11 to keep pace.

They didn't have to replace Baddoo on the roster with a relief pitcher. I don't know who's decision that was, but it was the wrong one.
