  1. Pretty much. Inter-league didn't start until '96, so he was 33 when he got his first PA.
  2. Roger Clemens had 0 home runs and a .261 OBP in his first 26 PA. His son, Kody Clemens, has 0 home runs and a .160 OBP in his first 25 PA.
  3. Funny how someone can be called a "bust" at age 21 while hitting 115 OPS+. Tork is only 22, so I have confidence he'll eventually figure it out. Castellanos didn't have a good season until his 3rd. I think Tork will follow a similar path.
  4. Why even have a hitting coach then?
  5. A lot of our veteran hitters are hitting way below their career norms. What changed between last year and this year? Is it all due to not having juiced balls? Is Coolbaugh doing anything different than he did last year? Doesn't someone have to be held accountable for the lack of offense?
  6. Too many people looked at Trout, Harper, Judge, Soto, Guerrero Jr., and Tatis Jr. and now thinks every rookie is going to hit like them. Torkelson is clearly not in their class.
  7. If they continue to play .643 for the rest of the season, they'll finish with 91 wins and a chance at the playoffs.
  8. That's like $200 M each for a pitcher and hitter.
  9. Angels aren't afraid to fire a former World Series winning manager.
  10. I remember Ernie Harwell was announcing that game on tv. He had already retired, but was filling in for someone.
  11. Little Caesar's is the most disgusting pizza I have ever eaten. I wish it was better as I would like to support the Tigers, but I'll never let that vile stuff ever come near my lips again. That being said, I don't think I've ever had Hungry Howie's or Papa John's, so I don't know if they are worse or not. Jets is king in my book and that's what I get 90% of the time.
  12. Double the price a month before, then cut it in half. You'll get the illusion of a discount.
  13. I want to see everyone get healthy. Then maybe I can see why everyone thinks Hinch is such a great manager.
  14. I have no idea what this is in reference to.
  15. Last night our "brilliant" manager played Willi Castro in CF and he made one of the most terrible plays I've ever seen a "centerfielder" make. The Tigers lost 13-0, so the decision will likely get buried and everyone will forget how bad of a job Hinch managed that game. It's just one game, just 1 loss in the column, go get 'em tomorrow. I mean, we desperately needed Castro's .665 OPS in the lineup (.689 over his last 8 games!). And with all the injuries, who the hell was supposed to play centerfield anyway? I'll just plug the guy with the worst UZR/150 in there. -31.4 isn't that bad, right? And now they want to see if Clemens can play multiple positions. I mean, he will play multiple positions, and by that, he'll stand in the vicinity of the position regardless of whether or not he's any good. Flexibility, baby! Remember last year when Schoop pretended to be a first baseman? That was fun. Our even more incompetent General Manager forgot to get a first basemen during the off-season. Or maybe it was Hinch's idea (supposedly he has a say on the guys we get). We don't need a first baseman, Tork will be ready next year. That's the year we really want to compete. I'll just keep asking guys who wants to move to 1B and the first guy who says, "yes," will get it. Congratulations, Schoop! Your -2.3 UZR/150 wasn't the worst in the league. I mean, it's bad, but probably wasn't the difference between the Tigers playing 8 games below .500 and finishing at .500. Remember how awful Goodrum was at playing SS? Another case of having to have the "hot" bat in the lineup. Candelario at 1B? Oh wait...that was Gardenhire doing that, not Hinch. Gardenhire was also pretty good. I mean for the Twins. For the Tigers, he had a .354 winning% (that's equivalent to a 57-105 record season). I'm glad they upgraded to Hinch, who actually won a World Series (cheating aside). Still waiting for that winning mentality in Detroit (probably not enough trash cans). Can we just stop playing guys out of position? It doesn't make them "flexible. It doesn't make then good teammates because they are, "taking one for the team." It just makes everyone look incompetent. *That being said, there are guys out there that are legitimate utility players, who are capable of playing multiple positions. Just not everyone can be Don Kelly.
  16. If the Tigers were hitting like they are supposed to be, you wouldn't even notice Willi's hot streak. If everyone was hitting and healthy, he probably wouldn't even be on the Big League roster.
  17. For centerfield? Hill, Cameron, or the other Castro would have been options. And maybe don't move the third baseman to the outfield, allowing the batter to get a free bunt base hit. I can probably defend starting Rodriguez, given all the injuries. Although I'm willing to bet Keuchel would have been slightly better.
  18. And yet people will still defend Hinch.
  19. Keuchel is already signed to a Major League deal. He gets paid no matter what. No on is going to give more than minimum wage. He likely will have to pitch in AAA if he wants to get back to the Majors.
  20. Whatever happened to, "you can never have enough pitching"? Keuchel will clear waivers and the Tigers will only be on the hook for the minimum salary. This is a lost season. There is literally no risk involved. I would hate to see our young pitching staff overworked because, "Keuchel wouldn't be any better." While this statement is true, we still need to have 5 starters in our rotation. Right now they only have 4 with the imposter Rony Garcia as the 5th. If not Keuchel, then the Tigers need to get someone. You can never have enough pitching.
  21. If it doesn't work out in a few starts, then release him. There's 0 risk involved.
  22. He can help by eating innings. With the amount of injuries the Tigers have, they are currently using one rotation day as a bullpen day. Having another starter, either Keuchel or someone else, would be better than taxing our bullpen.
  23. I'll admit that I don't keep up with all the Tigers prospects. Brieske was only rated around 20th in the Tigers system. Does anyone really think he's going to be a starter in the Big Leagues long-term? If his ceiling is only that of a middle reliever, he can ditch his weakest pitch, if it is his curveball. The Tigers are only in this situation because the have 5 starting pitchers on the IL. If they have someone in their minor league system that can perform better than he has been, then of course I'm all for it. To me, Brieske seems to be their best option right now and I don't think his development is hurting at all. Just my 2 cents.
  24. I hate bullpen days. I understand they may be necessary in case of an injury, but to make them a regular thing is silly. Too much risk of over-working your relief pitchers. Then they need a couple of days off and you are in no better position than before. Not to mention the injury risk. It's just not worth it. I think Brieske is fine. He'll learn a lot more from Fetter than whoever is in AAA. Sometimes the best development is at the ML level. The Tigers don't have many options for starters with all of their injuries. Do the Tigers even have anyone is AAA that will give us more innings than Brieske? I'm still wondering why they don't want to stretch Wily Peralta out. There are many things from Hinch to complain about, but the use of Brieske probably isn't one of them.
  25. Honestly, I never understood the comparison between Miggy and Garcia. I'm honestly surprised that Garcia has been as productive as he has in his career. I thought he would be out of baseball altogether by now. He always seemed like a Brennan Boesch type of guy to me.
