I just got back from a quick weekend trip to TN for a memorial for an aunt. Drove down by myself. Kentucky and TN are a different world. Very nice people for sure.... but for instance in Kentucky along route 80 and 90, every few miles you'd see a giant cross in a field. Lots of Trump flags on houses. I saw a lot of pictures/paintings of Trump hugging the flag plastered along trailers parked on the side of the road. Also came across 3 roadside stands selling merch, like what you see when a local team makes a championship game.

Fans do this thing where they ignore the fact that the other team wants to win too. Teams will win games they should lose and lose games and hey should win fans ignore the former and just assume it was their awesome grittiness that won the game and win that establishes the baseline. The Tigers are on pace for 97 wins. Did you and do you expect to win that many? Just enjoy the ride man.

Other teams say that too when they get held by pitching. It’s baseball. Pitching often wins the battle.

So do I. One disadvantage the cast has now is name recognition. And that’s not their fault. Blame The DVR. I record them and fast forward the opening credits. That’s how we learn who they are. I know the faces but not the names, especially the white dudes… Boern Yang isn’t hard to pick out. i bet Lorne stops after 50 years and hands it off. -

this sketch when Nate hosted SNL was memorable. -
I've heard it said that the cost to insure can be prohibitive anyway.... that makes me think not very many get insured. But I have no idea.

just so I can play dumb if ever contacted by authorities. "I didn't see it". I only use apple cash to pay my barber as it is. That's every 4 weeks.
-
Not being able to insure pitcher contracts and enough teams stuck with guys on the books long term with these injuries. As long as it affects non FA eligible players then owners won't care all that much.

they aint playing

A number I didn’t recognize sent me $50 in Apple Cash. It wasn’t until then I realized you have to manually set it up to not automatically accept it. I did some googling and it seems like a scam. There’s no way to “report” it. Scam is that they steal a card or number and link it to an Apple Cash account and send to you. Then claim it was a mistake and ask you to send it back. You do that. Seems reasonable. But when the person with the stolen card goes thru the fraud process and if plays out then eventually they take that money out of your Apple Pay account. Which you already “refunded” what I don’t get is how they cannot figure out who did it by the person sending the cash. They linked the card to an Apple account. If they can figure out it was sent to me then can’t they figure out who sent it? I deleted the text and reported it as “junk”. They called but left no voice mail. I’m not touching the money. If after a few months I still have it then I will buy someone’s dinner.

Yep. It won’t be it help him but some hedge fund or other anonymous outfit. “Too big to fail”. Remember a couple of years ago when regular joes messed around with game stop stock and all the hedge fund managers were like “dude… that’s not fair” I saw the beginning of a thread that asked “what are things that when poor people do if it’s considered trashy but when rich people do it it’s considered classy?” Examples like “speaking two languages at home” and “not paying taxes”. This is another case. When you or I use bad judgement or have just bad luck on a stock, that’s life. When the super rich do it then we must put in safeguards. Trickle down and such.

Sorry for that. I was getting most of my info from the usual folks on twitter.
-
it wasn't. The media likes to give the impression that any pivot or move by Trump is some calculated tactic when it's really just a blowhard saying whatever words come quickest to his mouth.

it could be something done in darkness that very few people are privvy to, like your suggestions on the ball. Remember when we had 6 no hitters in April and May 2021? What was up with that?

Marijuana is also on the ballot in FL.

agree. I'm sure he's paid, or been responsible for plenty of abortions. He was only "pro life" because he knew he needed the evangelicals. Consequences for other people don't matter to him. It's about what's good for him. What he's finding out now is the consequences do affect him. There's no way to soften this without risking a big part of his base. If these states didn't over play their hand with their very extreme bans and including IVF and birth control in general in their plans maybe it could have worked. If they had banned 1st trimester with language on protections for certain situations it might have been somthing they could live with. But they didn't and now the gloves should be off.

A former member of this site, who left on good terms, used to say that Tony Clark was the benchmark for a good draft class. Not a draft pick, but a draft class for a team. If, after all of your picks, you can end up with a Tony Clark, it was a good deal. Anyone better and it was a great draft, anything less, it was a bad draft. The point isn't to say Tony Clark was great, but that the draft is most likely not going to produce a HOF or superstar.

Lou was like that. He’d be asked “what pitch was that?” He’d say “I don’t know. I just see it and hit it”
-
I wasn’t suggesting they would do it all at once. It will be a generational or evolutionary situation. How pitchers are evaluated and what teams are willing to pay will dictate how this plays out. The days of career aces may be over. We will have guys with bursts of a few years then that’s it. Maybe they will get lucky to sneak a good deal in them for themselves. But someone like Skubal or Mize are walking a fine line. And when they do become FA and are playing well… do they get a big deal? The pitcher not hurt is more valuable on that day than the one who is.

This is the biggest game in the history of that building tonight. There will be another one next Monday. My son was at the Ilitch school this afternoon and said if was nuts already.

The Tigers have won one game out of their last one games played, good for a one game consecutive winning streak.

They are like an outfielder chasing a fly ball over their head and twisting and turning each way trying to figure it out.
