  1. Does AA apply to sports? I know the answer. Just being rhetorical.
  2. He sure did. I cringe when I see people share him.
  3. but the displaced white people could move to other nicer neighborhoods. The displaced black people couldn't. Not because they weren't capable. They weren't allowed to.
  4. This will prove out my theory that when your lone all star is a reliever then it means your team sucks.
  5. Throw in the building of urban freeways through middle class black neighborhoods as something else that helped set them back, due to direct government action. They had choices where to build and they almost always picked the black neighborhoods. Some would say they were targeted. I 375 in Detroit is a prime example but it played out in places like Baltimore and San Francisco.
  6. people going to bitch about the training staff on that one too?
  7. My view on the AA issue is that if blacks and minorities benefit from that when maybe some shouldn't.... oh well. There's so many other examples where they get the short end that I can overlook this if it happens. There's always outliers and anecdotes to show it might not be needed or someone got hosed but.... life isn't fair. We don't always get what we want and what better way to start adulthood than learning that. (This isn't directed at you Romad, just a general statement). I have a friend who claims his hatred of UM football, etc. is because they didn't accept him and he had to settle for EMU. He's got a good job. Met his wife at EMU. He's not close enough for me to ask "What the **** are you bitching about? You turned out ok" and following up on G2's points... if those issues that crop up earlier were addressed then I'd be fine addressing AA at the college level.
  8. I enjoyed the great lakes shipwreck museum at Whitefish Point. That was over 10 years ago. If you hate Gordon Lightfoot you might not like it though. I really liked it up there and would love to make it back. Life is different in the UP. I see the attraction.
  9. We have suppliers in town who were looking forward to Greenfield Village. I told them not a good idea. I wasn't going. It looks like July 5th at 1:30 am.... everywhere you look it's smoke. Like everyone's having a bonfire in their backyard. The sun rises through my bedroom window and I see this orange ball surrounded by haze.
  10. https://www.semafor.com/article/06/27/2023/it-was-bravado-trump-says-he-wasnt-holding-up-classified-documents-in-2021-meeting
  11. I learned in my space readings that his uncle Lee Silver was a key geologist that trained the Lunar astronauts. His guidance led to the discovery by Apollo 15 of the Genesis Rock. They thought initially to be part of the original formation of the moon but later discovered it was 'only" 4 billion years old.
  12. how are the bookies supposed to know what the line is going to be?
  13. Yeah I saw that. It was in response to someone complaining her boyfriend/husband had her full name
  14. Tigers went 15 years between Gold Glove winners, Pettis in 1989 and Pudge in 2004. Tigers have only won one since 2009.... Ian Kinsler won in 2016.
  15. my wife's list is a mess.. "Sharon" "Sharon work" (Not the first Sharon's work Number, a different Sharon that she works with) things like that. Just random names, some last names, some nicknames... a few Aunt ***, Uncle ***.... and some uses of Polish references because the tradition is certain aunts/uncles get the Polish designation.
  16. 6-3... Roberts/BK/Barret join the libs. This was a big one I think.
  17. He was on the 2006 team so he's "one of the boys". The casual fan who has the game on during the summer because nothing else is on and they aren't really paying attention. They ask "why do we always get rid of our good players?" Brandon Inge fans. They are glad to to still see Dan Petry on the broadcast and care about "pick to stick" or whatever it is. They don't like national broadcasts because "those aren't our guys" and complain about them being biased. The umps hate the Tigers.
  18. My real estate friends insist the market is still good. They are busy. I thought when rates jumped it would cool but they insist it's not. Of course they always say everything is good because they want to encourage you to buy/sell. Dirks is much better than I expected him to be. He gives really good insight into techniques. It's like he's talking to a peer sometimes.
  19. His defense team will say that what they were looking at wasn't real, he was just showing off because he's a salesman.
  20. Just like the article says… we made it to side 1. Then we didn’t know what to do for side 2.
  21. I had an Italian barber for years. From the age of 15 until about 10 years ago. My house now is around the block from where his shop was. I would run into him at certain catered events "his cousin owned the place" so he was there hanging around... you know the old halls you'd rent for a wedding or grad party or something? He would give me tomato plants and wine. Once there was a safe sitting in the middle of the shop. I asked him about it and he said he got it from someone but they can't open it. Next time I went in it was open. I asked him what was in it. "ah, nothing really". I left it at that. Car washes seem like something you could launder through as well. There's a huge fuss in Dearborn Hts over one being build on Ford road. The meetings got very contentious and it seems like a lot of effort for a corporation from Ohio to get involved in. I'll also say that the person I hear is involved is a pharmacist who just bought an old office building from Ford in Dearborn for over $20M. Was going to renovate it into condos and such... now it's being knocked down.
  22. I won't link to any studies as Ed has done that but for about a year the vast majority of my wife's patients were unvaccinated, this is the ICU. Those who were vaccinated were often elderly. To me the vaccine is much like wearing a seat belt. It won't protect you all the time and in a few very rare cases it might trap you. But overall you are better off with it than without it.
  23. Being vaccinated goes a long way to reduce the symptoms and effects of covid. Nothing is 100%. If she got vaccinated she might not be complaining about her food's taste.
  24. Black Mirror - Joan is Awful. holy ****. What a great episode.
