  1. I was at that game. It was Labor Day. Doug Strange also hit his first, and maybe only, HR.
  2. and I just like to forget about him..... what a horrible stretch for the Tigers front office.
  3. The reason I didn't include Suarez is I didn't get the impression he was a solid or even decent MLB player yet. I feel like he got more seasoning when he went to Cincy whereas Matt Joyce was more of a finished product. But I could be wrong in how I remember it.
  4. I get the point and it's very valid.... but would you add Matt Joyce to the list? I think he was a solid player who came up here and had success at the MLB level before being traded for Edwin Jackson.
  5. One of the places I used to go to is still open…. But now you need to pass thru a metal detector to go in.
  6. The skinny dude from color of money, at the tournament: was a pro player too. color of money grew on me after a few viewings. I just have to remember that this was pre top gun Tom Cruise. He’s almost a distraction.
  7. One clarification on 9 ball. You don’t have to pocket them in order. You just have to strike the lowest ball first with the cue ball. Granted that often leads to pocketing that ball but it’s not required. If the 9 ball ends up in front of a pocket you can hit the lowest numbered ball left to knock it in. and… I suck at pool. I played it a lot. A friend had a table and as kids we aways were down there. Then in college I spent a lot of time in two halls during my slacker days. I never got better at it. I just couldn’t master it.
  8. Looking up some trivia on the movie right now, on IMDB. All the shots were performed by the actors, except one. Mosconi did the one with two balls in the same pocket. (Although a later item seems to contradict this, maybe in montage shots where you can't tell who is shooting then it's him) Piper Laurie didn't make another movie for 15 year (Carrie), and got another oscar nomination.
  9. The Hustler is one of my all time favorites. I will never forget stumbling upon it. I knew of it obviously and used to shoot pool in college in a hall decorated with some photos. When my kids were very young they finally went to bed, the wife was out, and I noticed The Hustler was coming on so I got some beers and took the time to watch. Captivating. Sometimes I'll call it up on a streaming service when available and just watch the final scene where he goes off on Scott. The framing of the shots, 3 heavyweights in the same scene. The way Gleason sits there looking now like a broken man who probably went through the same thing Fast Eddie went through with Bert but didn't stand up. Who's the winner? "Fat man.... you shoot a great game of pool." "So do you Fast Eddie"
  10. They say it's to protect their daughters so that they know they are competing against "real girls". I wonder how they expect to know the truth in any of this? Someone going to check? I am not sure I want to hear the answer to that.
  11. I'm posting it here because Ron is the governor and this should be in every future campaign ad... In Florida the FHSAA is requiring female student athletes to submit information about their periods. When they had their first one, how long they last, etc. Shit I don't even ask my wife about. She just says "Not for a few days...."
  12. He told a great story about heckling that I'm sure was shared here. A guy was harassing him in the bullpen, this might have been in Colorado, and Todd sent him a ball and a $10 bill and a note saying "Here's a ball, go get a hot dog and a beer". The fan sent it back with a $20 bill and said "I'm rich, I can buy by own hot dog. You still suck"
  13. I get it. But I would told you ET was worth it. Another one on my list is Close Encounters. I've seen a lot of it but never in one sitting, if I did I forget. I know about the Mashed potatoes and the musical notes.
  14. Warren Zevon nominated for the Rock and Roll HOF brings a callback to one of scorseses greatest shots.
  15. Awesome. Reminds me of being in Tennessee.
  16. This humor is what I needed today The replies are a goldmine.
  17. DeSantis is too whiny to get national appeal in my opinion. He and Trump could say the same thing and when Trump says it, it sounds funny and cute. Otherwise rational people can just say "Oh, you know how he is... he's not a professional speaker, that's just how he talks". When Ron says it comes across as a guy complaining that his salmon was "too well done", not "a little well done" like he asked. I also want to see him in a position where he's being asked tough questions and has to answer rather than controlled environments.
  18. He was also into Motorcross during the offseason. They worried the team.
  19. In reviewing 1984 he disses Tram 3 times. First he sort of questions his selection as if it were something questionable... then he spells his name "Allan Trammel" or "Alan Trammel"
  20. One mom of a friend said that Trump was sent by God to save us after "Obama sold us down a Muslim river". that was written by a hardcore evangelical Christian. Never forgot those words. That's the sentiment shared by millions of people in places like Alabama, TN, Kentucky, etc.
  21. I see that sentiment on the facebook feeds of others. A righty friend will post something and I read all their friends comments. To them Rhonda is a "globalist" and, ahem... establishment. They got their marching orders and they are sticking to it. I think it's great that all of these people relented and caved into Trumpism after 2016.... and they still won't get the votes! It's like the Trumpers, to their credit, remember what was said about them in 2016 GOP Primary. The others pretend it was never said.
  22. Phillips would be recognized a lot earlier for his versatility in today's game and the value spotted. I still remember when the Tigers signed him. It was the same time that ESPN got the MLB contract so it seems like they were covering the game more. It was the winter meetings and they were talking to Gammons in a hallway. He called it a big signing and said Phillips will do very well in Detroit. Back in the day when you found out stuff like that from TV rather than a tweet. Regarding Yount..... the rule that every team needs a player leads to guys being left off who deserve it. That's why ASG appearances should not be used to determine a player's historical value. Along with fan voting for starters.
  23. wow. I guess it's a numbers thing too where b/c of each team needing a rep then he got squeezed. I also didn't realize he moved from SS so soon, 1985. I thought it was 87-88. I remember thinking they should do that with Trammell when Fryman came up.
  24. The key is to get all the dumb people to go back to not being interested in politics. I saw an article, that I didn't read completely, that blamed MTV and Bill Clinton. That helped make politics "cool" in the writer's mind. It's a stretch and not completely valid but there's some truth to the sentiment. I think Trumpism made politics interesting to a certain element that otherwise stayed home because they think everybody's crooked so they don't bother voting. We need to get back to that.
