i dont think there is any evidende they are bitching about blash other than a very shaky twitter account.

also, raymond plays defense?  i guess.  raymond is a rookie who is on the smaller side and is here to score, i'm not worried if he gets occasionally.

he's skates well enough to forecheck a little, which is more than most of them do.

i dont mean to say he traded down JUST TO TAKE CHOLOWSKI, i'm saying chychrun fell to that spot and the red wings traded out of that spot rather than take chychrun and instead ended up taking cholowski.

which is yet another move that has crippled this team.

Oh my bad I read way into that thinking you mean he had his eye on Cholowski.

What's a guy gotta do to get fired these days?  Been a Detroit sports fan for a long time, and have never seen so many excuses and deflection of blame than has been afforded to Blashill.  It's mind boggling to me.  Don't know if it's because Yzerman is at the helm or fans have it in their mind that it's impossible to win without 10 Hall of Famers on the team or what. Tired of hearing how he doesn't have talent, blah blah blah.    I'd like to think this is his last season, but I've thought that the last several seasons.  It's been brutal to watch these past few months.  It's not necessarily about winning every game, but the lack of competitiveness and motivation has been startling.  It's concerning how it will effect the players long term.

Blashill was listed on a Canadian broadcast graphic with other coaches on the last year of the contract or an interim coach, so the rumor it was a one year deal or one year deal + club option must be true.  It seems like a ton of teams are going to be searching for a coach this offseason.

Losing culture developing, I'm afraid.

Larkin and Bertuzzi have never played in meaningful games.

that's the thing, do you really want seider amd raymond to grow up like this?  losing every year?

they need a new voice.  blashill has to go no matter what yzerman thinks of his ability to coach young players.  there are lots of coaches who can do that.  find one.

Yzerman needs to find whoever does the coaching some hockey players who can skate fast and handle a hockey puck.

I figure 6 NHL players on this team: Larking, Bertuzzi, Vrana, Seider, Raymond, Rasmussen (barely). Let's say optimistically that they have 3 NHL ready players for '22-'23  in Edvinsson, Soderblom and Berggren. That gets you to 9 out of a starting 18 (not counting goalies). You can always pick up a journeyman Dman like Staal. Sign a decent FA and you are at about 11 players that actually belong on NHL ice. Still not sure that is enough to get you to playing consistently competitive NHL hockey. Which means at least another year of futility.....

i'm a bit down on ned.  he's had some good games and some very very bad games.  we all know he doesnt have good defensemen in front of him, but that'a not an excuse for letting in some of the goals he's allowed.  he's been very hot and cold.  greiss may need to retire.

regardless, ned is the starter next year.  i wonder if they would bring back bernier on a one year deal if he's available?

fabbri too.  he's a solid third line player who can play on the top two lines in a pinch for a while.

hronek isnt a top 4 d man, but he can play in the league.  lindstrom has been disappointing.  walman hasnt been too bad, he's got speed and a good shot.  he's worth keeping next year.

but they need mcisaac to hit next year along with edvinsson.  i think its still too early to count on them moving forward.

i remember when they played the kings who are another young team but who are further ahead of the wings in the rebuild and still have some really good older players like doughty, etc.  they played the wings off the ice and made them look like amateurs.  they were faster and controlled the game completely.

if the wings are miles behind the kings, they are more than just a handful of players away from competing.  they are two or three offseasons away.

the hope is that the swedish cavalry is coming.  they are performing so well over there that it gives you hope.  sprinkle in a carter mazur developing with a guy like elmer and wallinder and edvinsson and you have a really solid base.

now give me shane wright.

That could be just "shell shock".

I'll wait until he has a better team in front of him before I make a judgement call.

It's just too hard to do that right now...
