casimir Posted June 19, 2023 Author Posted June 19, 2023 A combined complete game between Olson and Alexander tonight would do some wonders for the bullpen. Torkelson has really had a successful time since being moved to the 2nd spot in the batting order. I don't know that there's anything to it, but hopefully it isn't just blip. With McKinstry slumping lately, maybe a top of the order of Greene, Torkelson, and Carpenter is in order once Greene returns? 1 Quote

You can't have the first baseman bat second though. He bats cleanup. The second spot is for a gritty second baseman who doesn't hit much, but has good bunting skills. 1 Quote

Correct, and it doesn't matter if the second baseman has an OBP below .300 because he makes up for it with moxie and grit. He's got a great baseball name too, something like Donny Day, not a doofus name like Spencer. Quote
oblong Posted June 19, 2023 Posted June 19, 2023 The 2nd guy in the lineup has to be a punch and judy hitter... "move the runner over', 'bunt', 'give himself up'. Quote
SoCalTiger Posted June 19, 2023 Posted June 19, 2023 No not anymore it’s the five spot for the gritty low everything hitter. Just ask Hinch. Quote
Tigermojo Posted June 19, 2023 Posted June 19, 2023 Five is for the worst hitter in baseball. Six through nine is guys trying to avoid being put in the fifth spot. Quote

Tigeraholic1 Posted June 19, 2023 Posted June 19, 2023 I think AJ accidently used a permanent marker when he wrote Maton hitting 5th a few weeks back. 1 Quote
theroundsquare Posted June 19, 2023 Posted June 19, 2023 I gather that Vierling must still have a sore back Quote
Dave Christian Posted June 19, 2023 Posted June 19, 2023 I have a good feeling about this line-up! I'm hoping for a sweep of this series. Quote
Jim Cowan Posted June 19, 2023 Posted June 19, 2023 Ibanez and Schoop are both in the lineup and no one is complaining, because Maton is drawing all the fire now! 1 Quote

Dave Christian Posted June 19, 2023 Posted June 19, 2023 I've got to miss tonight's game. My wife and I are taking our three year old granddaughter to Marquette to watch our five year old granddaughter play soccer. Gotta miss my seven year old grandsons Little League game as well. How about them Tigers🤗 Quote
Adullin Posted June 19, 2023 Posted June 19, 2023 The pitcher for KC is 0-11 not looking good for Detroit Quote

Everybody knows that your optimal lineup is CF, 2B, 1B/DH, DH/1B, RF, 3B, LF, SS/C, C/SS. You have your speedster leading off, followed by the gritty 2B that "knows how to handle the bat" followed by the big sluggers, your catcher bats at the bottom cause his only real job is "calling a good game" along with the light hitting SS who while not having much pop "makes the pitchers work" during his ABs and like the CF is a terror on the base paths. 1 Quote

Yes this is all correct. Quote
Dtrain72 Posted June 19, 2023 Posted June 19, 2023 Gotta win this game tonight...and let's hope CMun isnt annointing Royals ass-juice pitcher, 0-11, 813,467 ERA, Lyles as a Cy Young candidate at some point this evening. Quote
