NFL.com Terrion Arnold Scouting Report

Player Comparison: Marshon Lattimore

Strengths

  • Sits under receiver’s chin and plays tight press man from snap to whistle.
  • Agile feet and slippery hips accommodate challenging cross-face transitions.
  • Smooth coming to balance and shadowing comebacks from side-shuffle.
  • Very good top-end speed with above-average burst to close.
  • Urgent ball-challenger, competing hard for both space and the ball.
  • Standout ball production over two-year span as a starter.
  • Jars throws loose with heavy strikes and is aggressive in run support.
  • Works through blockers and gets after it as a tackler.

Weaknesses

  • Feet become indecisive when hit with release fakes.
  • Lacks eye balance, losing sight of play development around him.
  • Offers excessive cushion for easy catches from off-man and quarters.
  • Room for improvement on jump-ball play and positioning.
  • Needs to do a better job of dropping pad level and wrapping to tackle.

Lattimore is an interesting comp since he played for Campbell and Glenn in New Orleans.

Athletic:

For Detroit, this fills an obvious need and it comes in the form of a perfect fit for Detroit’s culture. Arnold is a confident corner who plays with swag, he loves to work, he loves tough coaching and he loves to win. Arnold also gets to reunite with Brian Branch in a new-look Detroit secondary. Another great value pick. Grade: A

CBS Prisco

24. Lions: Terrion Arnold, CB, Alabama

Grade: B

The Lions needed some corner help, so it makes sense to make a move to get one. Arnold gives them another Alabama secondary player to go with Brian Branch, another player with versatility.

The Lions turned two 3rd round picks into two starting CBs in Carlton Davis and now Terrion Arnold. If they drafted two players in the 3rd round that came out as starters we'd be ecstatic about that. So I think we should be all equally thrilled by this.

They have their cornerstone pass rusher. If they move up I presume it would be for a cornerstone CB. Most mocks have Mitchell and Arnold gone before 20, which according to the draft value chart would probably require picks 29, 61, and another. Not a fan, especially since McKinstry or Wiggins may be available at 29. But Arnold is a high character Alabama prospect which is a pedigree that appeals to Brad and Dan.

They got their high character Alabama prospect and kept their second round pick. Gave up two thirds in addition to the first to massively upgrade both outside corner positions. Seems reasonable.

They traded the pick they got for Hockenson. They basically turned Hockenson into Branch and Arnold.

After coming so close last season, anything less than a Super Bowl appearance for the Lions next year.... would be considered a letdown.

Wait did I just say that

With bigger expectations comes greater disappointment.....or pure joy!

If you look at the value of the picks traded, I think the Lions gave up too much but these trade values never account for the player you are acquiring.

It's why I wanted them to sign Kendall Fuller versus giving up a pick to acquire Davis. Oh well, still love what we did.
