I've been assured repeatedly that Trump is too stupid to conceive of planning anything like overshooting what they might actually do, to make their actual attacks on voting seem less extreme.

He doesn't have to be smart, thats a feature in the Oligarchy Party. He's the pitch man, the guy in front of the camera for a manufactured game show. They tell him what to do and he does it. If he takes the fall so much better. Next patsy (JD) up,,,

I simply don't buy the idea that he's too stupid to know what he's doing yet smart enough to stay on message.

He just has to follow the script. He doesn't care. He gets paid, that's all it's about for him. He cares about one guy, DJT

Trump isn't stupid, but he is ignorant. We tend to assume the later always implies the former, but not with Trump.

Trump is ignorant because not because he is stupid but because he has a closed mind. Snapped shut somewhere around 1972 and he's still there.

When Obama roasted him at the Press Club Dinner back in 2011, he really went off the rails. He had already fallen into his conspiracy theories then. But a black man with a funny name winning the White House....

The same with most of the party...

They live in a different world than the rest of us. It's 2000 vs 8 billion and the 8 billion are losing. It's not just Trump. They are all complicit. I don't even want to imagine the illegal activities they are all involved in.

I've been saying this exact thing for years, and I've been getting roasted, not likes, for saying it.

The guy knows exactly what he's doing and what he's trying to accomplish. It may not work out the way he wants, but that's because reactions to actions are unpredictable, not because he is dumb as a rock.

The key difference is what would have happened if he said he didn’t have it

This isn’t complicated for those willing to pay attention

But hi didn’t. He did not make a political statement or yell racist. Wild concept I know.

As soon as he sobers up and remember where he hid the "proof". Probably sometime in the next two weeks

I'm guessing "soon" means two weeks.

He has no intellect at all.  He is smart enough to know how to bully and manipulate people which I think isn't all that difficult when you've got money.  He is also dumb enough to allow smarter people to manipulate him.

  • The map showed four blue districts for Democrats and 24 red for Republicans, up from 20 Republicans in Florida's current delegation.
  • DeSantis has signaled he has a three-step plan for his maps survive court challenges, at least in the short term, by playing for time, Axios reported last week.

I wish I had any confidence conservative voters who typically vote Republican would en masse be disgusted by this brazen antidemocratic tactic and withhold their votes from their R candidate, if not switch their vote to the D candidate, and maybe a small sliver will. But it feels very likely the vast majority of Trump voters are hooting and hollering and yeehawing at what they see as a winning move, because in the end, their wish is not to win democratically free and fair elections—crossing your fingers and hoping to win fair elections is for suckers—but to destroy the Democratic Party, become a one-party state, hijack the judiciary and the media, and vanquish once and for all the only way they could ever lose power: democracy itself.

I'm not saying I know they're going to succeed. This might fail spectacularly, with the whole thing blowing up in their faces, and their being called to account for it in a court of law. That's within the range of outcomes. What I am saying is this is what they wish for, and this is what they're going to try to make happen.

Worth noting that, similar to Texas, the success of this map in 2026 (at least) hinges pretty heavily on the gains Trump made with Hispanic voters in 2024 being realized going forward. And that's absolutely not a guarantee in this environment.
