Well, when Trump first ran for president there were several people on this site and elsewhere saying that he was a great businessman. That's what America needs. Well, businessmen have been running this country for a long time now. Just not always as president of the country.

But true to his words, Trump is running this country the way he ran his businesses. Runs up a bunch on debt, then loots the **** out of the company before it goes under.

With this new looting bill, he is well on his way to doing the same to the country.

Not sure why someone would despise you for trying to help them, but that's what you see with urban communities when republicans (pre-trump) tried to help them, so you could be right.   Trump has done everything you'd expect from someone writing them off and actually is getting a bigger portion of votes so you got a point.

The above is said kind of in jest.  I'm not saying dems didn't try to help rural areas, nor that republicans didn't either, but what I said is both failed.  Ultimately both were fine with rural areas subsidizing their brightest students towards urban areas.

According to reports I've seen, the NWS did its job. Issued warnings and advisories. That's their job. The problem goes down to the state and local level. Kerr County has no warning system, no sirens or even the ability to issue automatic warnings on residents cell phones, for example. Combine that with the death in recent years of any local news coverage in those area. 
 

If you do want to broaden the blame a bit, yes cuts to NWS and FEMA as well as NOAA probably did make the problem worse. But these areas have probably been without proper services for several years. You should place most of the blame on those in charge of local infrastructure.

Oh Trump's nonchalant answer was horrible. Right up there with pro life's "Thoughts and Prayers" after mass shootings.

this could all change when we know more, but it looks like the local response that we often see in these cases "Blame the feds!" may not be true. 

I think the issue with the government is this: government works. full stop. it is worth it to have bridges not collapsing, food not poisoned, and natural disasters' death toll limited.

the DOGE issue is this: none of these morons have the required knowledge to know what is and what is not a good and efficient system. for example, I do not test raw chicken and meat at my home - I leave that the USDA inspectors. DOGE has no knowledge in this area at all.
