IdahoBert Posted August 21 Author Posted August 21 Best record in MLB since July 27 this is instructing. It should help alleviate any of the blues you’ve been feeling which have been quite a bit less since July 27. Right now we have the best record in the American League and are second in wins overall in all of MLB because of course the Brewers are number one. Quote
romad1 Posted August 21 Posted August 21 I like these Jeff Seidel articles Detroit Tigers' off-the-field fun as important as on-the-field success As much as I know i'm eating pure sugar ... i like them. 1 2 Quote

oblong Posted August 21 Posted August 21 I always associated #34 with a good player. But it's been kind of average. This is from 2022. Quote
theroundsquare Posted August 21 Posted August 21 i wonder how far backward-looking that was. Pujols would account for 5, Miguel for 24 if it was strictly a recent-years thing. Quote
CaliforniaDreaming Posted August 21 Posted August 21 It has to be far backward-looking otherwise #42 would be the worst since nobody gets to wear it now. Quote
theroundsquare Posted August 21 Posted August 21 Got it. DiMaggio, Greenberg, Pujols, others that I can't think of I'm sure, were all 5. The top row brings to mind a lot of great players, though I can't think of that many great 11s. Quote
RandyMarsh Posted August 22 Posted August 22 I'm surprised 24 isn't number 1. Willie Mays, Rickey Henderson, Ken Griffey Jr., Miguel Cabrera, Pirates Bonds, Manny Ramirez just off the top of my head. Quote
casimir Posted August 22 Posted August 22 LHP Drew Sommers to Detroit. No corresponding 26 or 40 move yet. Let the speculation begin. Quote

Graterol Posted August 22 Posted August 22 (edited) Pondering whether Kahnle gets released got me thinking of a best case playoff staff. Assuming 12 pitchers: Skubal/Flaherty/Mize/Morton (starters) Finnegan/Vest/Melton/Cobb/Holton (top relievers) Hurter (2nd lefty)/Hannifee (DP guy)most likely next tier Which would leave one spot for Paddack/Hernandez/Kahnle/SGL/3rd lefty/Urquidy. I would probably go with SGL unless Sommers is lights out the rest of the way. Not sure Kahnle could do anything the rest of the way to regain enough trust to pitch meaningful post reason minutes. Probably him or Montero are released? Edited August 22 by Graterol Quote

chasfh Posted August 22 Posted August 22 I wonder if the benchmark is great players who have even worn that number at any time in their history. Hank Aaron wore #5 one year (1954), and so did Mel Ott (1932) and Adrian Beltre (2005), and Luke Appling (1931), Al Simmons (1933), and Goose Goslin (1933), Hall of Famers all. Quote
