They had about 100 stolen bases more, and maybe 30 home runs more? Our 5 man rotation includes 2 Skubals this series. Feels like a coin flip at worst. Quote

I look at Seattle's line-up though and it looks better than either than Cleveland or Detroit. I don't think Seattle or Detroit is the same offensive team they were in the first half. Your point about Skubal rings true though. Aces have greater value in the playoffs. Instead of pitching 20% of the games, he is pitching 40% of the games. For what it's worth, FanGraphs World Series win odds: Seattle 17.7% Deroit 5.8% Edited October 4 by Tiger337 Quote

papalawrence Posted October 4 Posted October 4 Turns out Det was fortunate to lose that final game in Boston. Had they won they'd have played NYY and likely would have lost Quote

That would be like Rorschach telling the prisoners that he's not locked up in here with them, they are the one's locked in with HIM! Quote

Hope she has that kind of career. She is a protege of Dan Dickerson's wife apparently. Quote

Mr.TaterSalad Posted October 6 Posted October 6 WXYZ Channel 7: 5/3rd Bank to buy Comerica How does everybody feel about the possible new name of the ball park as 5/3rd Park? Quote
oblong Posted October 6 Posted October 6 Known ballparks/stadiums with “Fifth Third” in the name Fifth Third Field (Toledo, Ohio) — home of the Toledo Mud Hens. Fifth Third Ballpark (Comstock Park, Michigan) — home of the West Michigan Whitecaps; was named that from ~2000 to 2021. Fifth Third Field (Dayton, Ohio) — home of the Dayton Dragons; this was the name until 2019. Fifth Third Bank Ballpark (Geneva, Illinois) — home of the Kane County Cougars; had that name for some period. Fifth Third Park (Spartanburg, South Carolina) — newly built (opened in 2025) for the Hub City Spartanburgers. Quote
monkeytargets39 Posted October 6 Posted October 6 They need to take the high road and just name it Tiger Park. They won’t, but 5th/3rd is the worst name for a company I’ve ever heard. Anything with a variation of that in it will be an abomination. Quote
CMRivdogs Posted October 6 Posted October 6 Comerica holds the naming rights to the ballpark until 2034. Assuming the rights are included with the sale, I have a feeling we are stuck with something similar for a while unfortunately Quote
Shades of Deivi Cruz Posted October 6 Posted October 6 I'll go on record and say that I could not care less what the stadium is called. Sell the rights for as much as you can, and pour those resources right back into the team. I never say "I'm going to Comerica Park", it's "I'm going to the Tigers game", and that's not going to change (even if they called it Tiger Park, which they won't). 1 1 Quote

Also, Cobo Hall was renamed Twin Cities Financial Center after Twin Cities Financial (TCF Bank) bought the naming rights. Then, when Huntington bought Twin Cities Financial, Cobo became Huntington. So I would expect Comerica Park to undergo the same rebranding. Quote

monkeytargets39 Posted October 6 Posted October 6 5/3 is just such an awkward name. They should just do a total rebrand and pick a name that isn’t a cronenberg monster of language Quote
gehringer_2 Posted October 6 Posted October 6 they would have to come up with some better discriminator though - two baseball stadia within 60 miles with the same name shouldn't happen. Quote
CaliforniaDreaming Posted October 6 Posted October 6 Would "May 3 Ballpark" roll off the tongue better? Quote
monkeytargets39 Posted October 6 Posted October 6 (edited) In half of Skubal starts this year, the Tigers scored three or fewer runs. 6 times we lost games when Skubal allowed 3 or less earned runs. By comparison, the Rockies averaged 3.69 runs per game, which was last in the MLB If we had a league average offense when Skubal takes the mound in those games (4.45 runs per game), we could’ve won 5 more of his starts this year (15% more of his starts this year) Deep down, there’s gotta be a frustration with that for Tarik even if he doesn’t say it. If we expect this guy to consider staying with us after next season, the offense has to be improved next year—especially when he is on the mound. Granted, a lot of his matchups are against the other teams top starter—but we absolutely have to figure out how to improve there. Side note, we are only slightly below average 4.40/game in all of Skubal starts this year, but we only scored 6 or more runs in his starts 10 times this year and only 3 times post-all star break. So the numbers are heavily skewed by early season games. Edited October 6 by monkeytargets39 Quote
IdahoBert Posted October 6 Author Posted October 6 If Skubal were pitching against the Tigers, he would probably make Riley Greene look even worse. He probably has a good idea of how to pitch to everyone on the squad. Let’s hope he goes to the National League when he leaves and we see as less of him as possible. Quote
