Cruzer1 Posted Wednesday at 04:13 AM Posted Wednesday at 04:13 AM 'It doesn't look good': Tigers' shortstop prospect Rainer suffers shoulder injury It does sound bad. I was being flip because of my own personal shoulder woes. He's the best shortstop prospect I've seen from the Tigers since Travis Fryman. Quote

Motor City Sonics Posted Wednesday at 12:11 PM Posted Wednesday at 12:11 PM I think there are probably several AAA teams that would fare better than the Colorado Rockies Quote

Rainer has a hose. Quote
Edman85 Posted Wednesday at 02:18 PM Posted Wednesday at 02:18 PM Keith is one guy. He's also somebody who bulked up a lot and lost a lot of the agility required to make good throws on the infield. There's no guarantees Rainer would follow a similar path. Quote
Shinzaki Posted Wednesday at 02:56 PM Posted Wednesday at 02:56 PM I jammed my right shoulder once playing pick up football. Couldn't raise my arm for a week. Went from being a slo-pitch CF with a gun to a noodle arm 1st baseman. One of the great athletic tragedies of the 1980's. I hope Rainer has better luck 1 Quote
Cruzer1 Posted Wednesday at 03:55 PM Posted Wednesday at 03:55 PM I always thought I had a good arm, I played some outfield in rec softball, and could make some throws, but now I'm looking at perhaps not making another throw. Eventually I might throw with my right, but I'm left handed and I'm having a reverse shoulder replacement, and will be able to throw overhand. I will be able to golf in a couple of years, though. For what good it's done him, he's still only at 1HR/40AB and his EV this season is exactly the same as last season. Quote

Early last year his numbers weren't good either but my recollection is that he was really getting BaBIP'd. Don't know if that is as true this season - maybe he just likes hot weather. Quote

FWIW yeah he bulked up some but we don't know if it was intentional or not. Looking at pics of him in High School and he had wide shoulders/chest and a thick neck along with already being listed at 6'2 195. That size and build as an 18yr tells me that chances are he's going to be a pretty big dude by his early to mid 20s like he is. Quote

His HR's (especially the Houston one) are beautiful, and with a perfect swing. The rest is just meh, and I'm wondering if he's pressing too much. When he's good, he's very good. Quote

I wonder if for some of these young guys there Is there such a thing as too much bat speed - maybe a tendency because of the metrics availability to chase that instead of contact? Sweeney is another one with a really quick bat, but he's not making enough contact either. Edited Wednesday at 09:00 PM by gehringer_2 Quote

Keith has gotten himself to a 105 OPS+, though it's it doesn't seem like it watching him - probably because his walk rate is pretty decent and walks tend to be pretty 'meh' Edited Wednesday at 09:11 PM by gehringer_2 1 Quote
