Even though I missed most of it in real time, last night’s game was like falling from the 9th story building and landing on an awning and then walking away unharmed. A nice uncomplicated win would be welcome tonight.

Same ****, different year ...

Mike Trout is still a slam-dunk inner-crcle first-ballot Hall of Famer even if he walks off the field Moonlight Graham style right now. But he will also be the saddest what-might-have-been slam-dunk inner-crcle first-ballot Hall of Famer ever.

That really is sad. He really is the picture perfect example of the greatness and frailty of human flesh. 20 years old and coming up with a season like that and then that streak of great years and then the heartbreak…

LOL - we used to talk about Trout/Cabrera performance comparisons, who knew they'd end up with similar injury futility comparisons? Miguel at least got into his thirties before breaking down.

At least Trout got to 85 WAR.

On a certain level, you could say about Miggy that he was also a what-could-have-been Hall of Famer, given how big his talents were and how much he skated by on that and only that, but practically no one would ever say that about a Triple Crown-winning, 500-homer-hitting, 3,000-hit-having, big-personality alpha dog.

From the start of his career until July 3 2015, at age 32, Cabrera had 405 HR.

From that point on he had 106 HR, 38 of them coming in 2016.   He missed a month in 2015 and most of 2018 with a torn bicep.  That was when he fell apart.

At a similar point, age 32, Hank Aaron had 442 HR.  I started tracking his progress at it related to Aaron's similar timeline.

At least Miggy won a World Series and played in another one. The Angels never built a team around Trout. That's a shame, he was a great talent.

yeah, I was pretty disappointed wth how is career ended and I don't think it was entirely unavoidable.

Miggy finished with a career .300+ BA too.  Trout has work to do on that

Miggy had the good fortune to hit in the pre-crazy strikeout era.

I remember talking with my father before Miggy's core injury and predicting he'd hit 600 HR, 3500 hits and 2000 RBI. It really was sad how early he fell off s cliff

I think Miggy was on the Chipper Jones/ Adrian Beltre path. Not hitting or defensive ability... just career total WAR.

Trout was on the Alex Rodriguez/ Honus Wagner path.

Until injuries. For both of them.

Just my 2 cents.

I don't even care about the Trout/Miggy comparisons.  I just find it incredibly sad that a guy who was destined to be one of the top 3 or 4 players of all time has broken down so young.     Heck, is there something with the ground they're playing on in Anaheim?   Is it like playing on the Silverdome astroturf, ,which was a shag rug on a slap of concrete?   Seems like a lot of Angel players have a lot of leg injuries.    It sucks.  There doesn't seem to be anything unlikable about Mike Trout, other than he is the hitter that burned your pitcher -- back in the day.
