I will reiterate that I do not believe Harris will liquidate anything near the top of our system, and the prices paid so far seem to indicate he might not have to. The top guys I think we'd be willing to let go are Briceno and Max Anderson, and that might be (more than?) enough to pry Bednar out of Pittsburgh.

That’s what he’s done so far this year. Each of the previous five seasons he’s been sub .800 ops, is prone to slumps and offers little else value wise if he’s not cranking bombs.

This year is all we needed from him.  He’s cranking bombs and driving in runs.     It’s a big add for the M’s.

Basically my defense of whatever Harris is doing (as if I knew) is that desperation is a bad tactic and a terrible strategy.   Being that way leads to chaos in your own organization and seldom leads to success.

I agree that desperation is a terrible strategy and the sign of a chaotic organization.

I don’t see the Mariners trading prospects #9, 16, 17 from a farm rated in the top 5 as desperate.    The same would apply to the Tigers had they chosen the same tact.

He’s more likely to regress to his historical norms than to continue his current streak.

Hmm, if he is willing to let that go - there may be more that he could actually acquire. I am just not sure Harris has the ability to make deals for proven MLB talent. We will see before long and I am willing to give the benefit of the doubt. They are there now, so he should take a chance - and he does not have to mortgage the future.

My initial thoughts - Well, it can help. Maybe replace CLee for now. Still really think one more 'high leverage' guy could really help. If anything it may take a 'desperation' look away from Detroit and give Harris an a little help in that respect to make another deal.

I wonder if the sweep of a horrible Diamondbacks team gave Harris the idea that he did not need to do anything other than some more waiver wire moves?

possible that both Montero and Sewald would have been released in favor of younger arms if their teams continued to crater

Sewald?  Is Harris really going to go the bargain basement route to build a post-season roster?  I hope he is just taking flyers on these guys and still has a big move in mind.

I think he's scared. Terrified of trading away a prospect who ends up being an All Star. All of these other teams making trades and improving their postseason chances and the Tigers bringing in waiver wire pickups. Ugh...
