The site I attached cited the number of murders on a per 100,000 basis. Total population has nothing to do with this number.

Usually Detroit is in the top 5 annually for homicide rate, along with St. Louis, Washington, and the other usual candidates.  

People can claim its amazing and super safe, but like all big cities, if you go to the wrong part of town, you're asking for trouble.

well, poverty on one side at least. Historically - at least in Western society, great art was the product of poor artists working for wealthy patrons (or a wealthy Church) with the resources to support them. One of the more depressing things about the current generation of richer than they know what to do with its is their lack of imagination for supporting culture, which is probably the result of them lacking the acculturation to appreciate it themselves.

Scott said in a clip I hadn’t seen yet that the Tigers really like guys who are with them “for the right reasons.” I presume that means buying into the ethos and culture of the organization. I guess it could mean something else but that seems like the more obvious choice.

I wonder if this also means that they’re not looking for guys who are simply mercenaries and looking for the biggest payday possible. I’m just thinking out loud because the general assumption is that players are only motivated by the largest paycheck.

I wonder if this could say something about how interested the Tigers are in signing guys to seven year $50 million a year contracts either in free agency or to keep existing players.

What does that have to do with Detroit having high homicide rates?  A minority might not be safe in the deep south, therefore Detroit's homicide rates don't matter.  Brilliant.

It seems more like Javy type players, guys willing to move around and do whatever is asked of them. They used to call them "team players."

I’m moving to Detroit in a month and I have no worries. A lot of neighborhoods such as Pingree Park (where I’ll be) and Islandview have streets full of crews working on roofs. There’s a lot being built back up at the moment.
