Hinch: “we are doing uncharacteristic things”

No.  We aren’t.

We’ve flailed at bad pitches for months—led by your best hitter who doesn’t seem to care about it.  We don’t work counts or draw walks.  The bullpen walks guys and gives up hard contact.

You’ve let that become the norm.

Scott Harris or AJ Hinch? One of them should loose their job because of this catastrophic collapse. The current brand of baseball, being played by the Detroit Tigers, would not be Tolerated in New York, Los Angeles or Philadelphia. The Detroit Tigers have become MLB's version of the Miami Dolphins. Soft and no desire to even compete.

Who do you want them to get that's better?

One of the Cleveland announcers, postgame, called Skubal’s snap over Tork’s head, “asinine.” I couldn’t agree more. I think that and Kwan’s leadoff bunt were the two most critical points of the game.

Not necessarily better. But...different. sometimes players stop listening to a manager/coach who's been there for a while. Whether it's Hinch or hitting coaches, changes are necessary. An important game like today? They struck out 19 times.

Harris is safe as long as that bottom line shows they made a boat load of money. Baseball is a business and the profit is more important than the product on the field to the bean counters. They fail to see that a long playoff run would give them even more beans to count. 😏😒

Up until the last month or so, I think the Tigers have performed above their talent level during Hinch's tenure.  It's been an awful stretch, but I think firing him would be a knee jerk reaction and a mistake.

I think the 19 Ks is a sign the Tigers are pressing. I think Skubal trying the trick play is a sign the Tigers are pressing. I think Tork slamming his bat after his final K is a sign the Tigers are pressing. And I guess who can blame them. Time to re-set and win a darn game.

I'm old and have watched a lot of baseball games in my life, but this one was about a crazy of a game as I have ever watched. WTF? In all the chaos I missed the 19 strikeout thing. Really? So only 8 people hit the ball for an out.

Outstanding.

I hope so too, because they'll be a lot less entertaining next year without him.

Agreed but like statistics the underlying "cracks" can't be ignored. We benefited by some players playing over their skies for half a season and as we draw to a close we do not have a third baseman, shortstop , second baseman or  leadoff hitter. Those are gaping holes that a Skubul trade could help fill IF the decision is made to "retool" this team.

Ask yourself if you think this team as constituted can return after such a historic collapse. I do not have the answer but many significant changes need to be made and Skubul has only one year left and has lost two years in a row against Cleveland when it mattered.

Really tough off season ahead. Should be interesting.

I'm beginning to think that with the pitching staff so shattered, Flaherty more likely to either bail or just be bad, Greene having plateaued, Meadows looking like he isn't an MLB hitter, Torkelson's ceiling locking in at about an 800 OPS (IOW good player, but not a great one), McKinstry having come to earth, Torres gone, I'm having trouble seeing them being a >500 team next season. So maybe they get a boost from Anderson or McGonigle by mid-season, still doesn't help the hole the pitching will be in.

I wish we could point our finger at some bad apples in the club house or even a lack of effort. I don't see it. I really think they all are trying and want to win badly. This goes right back to the front office. Either they knew this was not a great team and didn't make any moves or just superficial ones at the trade deadline as if it would have made a difference. Or they thought they had it made and no need to make drastic changes. Wow, what a misstep either way.

Agreed.  This stretch is an indictment of July's trade action / inaction.  Consider how valuable a single win would be right about now.

Why do I feel this is the last we see Skubul in a Tigers uniform ? Not sure Sundays game will matter.

If Sunday’s game doesn’t matter, I wonder whether Skubal even pitches it?

I think you have to go back to Game 3 against the Orioles in 2014 to find me as angry about a Tigers game as I am now.

I was there for that. I never felt so much like the team on the field didn’t even want to be there.

i think not getting bergmen is under rated too ... not having a steady vet whose been there done that to balance out the lineup was a mistake
