GalagaGuy Posted September 27 Posted September 27 Greene has to be the most worthless 30HR 100RBI player in MLB history. Quote

I think you can view it two ways 1- injuries are not a GM's fault - the starting pitching looked solid going into the season. There was no sense throwing away the future at the deadline - there was no possibility of adding enough to repair it all. 2- Thinking the pitchers that made up last years BP could repeat what they did was wishful thinking. He went into the season with a BP for which implosion was a high probability. Then he bungled the deadline by adding a lot of quantity but insufficient quality. 1 Quote
Tiger337 Posted September 27 Posted September 27 Just now, buddha said: they deserve to lose given the hubris they showed at the trade deadline. it was either hubris or stupidity. i'm not buying the illitch spending argument. i more buy the harris arrogance and inexperience argument. One could say that he's so focused on his long-term plan that he can't make adjustments when given a current opportunity to win. 1 Quote

Harris signed Torres. That is the only positive thing he did in the last year for the major league club. He went into the season with the worst SS and 3B combo in the league, didn't address SP depth in AAA, and made the team worse at the trade deadline by bringing in a guy who had been washed up for 3 years, and a guy who was always one of the worst starters in the league for the last 6 years. Harris will be back though. Edited September 27 by tiger2022 Quote

Illitch spent. They took on money at the deadline to lessen the prospect capital. Morton wasn't cheap. Nor were Paddack or Sewald. And they took on Dobnak's abomination. Quote

Hart Posted September 27 Posted September 27 It just doesn't seem like Greene even tries to shorten up his swing in crucial situations to put the ball in play. So frustrating. Malloy was raking in Triple A before this latest call-up. Please start him the last two games. Quote
UCFKNIGHT Posted September 27 Posted September 27 Yes, If anyone in the Tigers front office is found guilty of harassment, they should be fired immediately. Didn't Bobby Higginson pull some BS on a flight attendant about 22 years ago? Relief pitcher Evan Reed was arrested for assaulting a female at a club in Detroit in 2015. This organization has a history of despicable behavior. . Quote
monkeytargets39 Posted September 27 Posted September 27 Say what you will about Harris’ deadline, but we do have the #1 ranked farm system. Expecting him to come into Avilas mess and have a #1 farm system and a major league team poised to make a deep playoff run after a decade of being garbage in both areas is a bit aggressive. what he does this offseason should be the mark of if he is a legitimately capable GM 1 Quote

I’d rather be feared than pitied. It wouldn't of mattered who they sent in to pitch the 9th, the results probably would have been the same so AJ didn't have much choice. I don't feel bad for him though since he has made some pretty bad decision that contributed to a few loses. The way he uses Carpenter is terrible. The biggest problem is that Harris thought he didn't need to pick up any quality players at the deadline. He's trying to compete with a pen he picked up at the dollar store. I hope they don't bring back a lot these pitchers and can pick up a quality set up man and a closer and not someone from waivers or a 40 year old they think they can fix. 1 Quote

The Tiger org certainly understands that HR alone a productive player do not make. I guess maybe early on it looked like he could swing for the fences and be better overall, but the reality caught up with him - most likely in the form of pitchers adjusting to a guy they know is going for broke. Riley has to learn what Tork had to learn - you have to be the best hitter you are, even if that's not the hitter you'd like to be. Edited September 27 by gehringer_2 Quote

buddha Posted September 27 Posted September 27 i was all in on their trade deadline. i thought they would identify guys who had positives and that they could fix the negatives. i figured they knew what they were doing. and i - like them - were very very wrong. i know harris is going nowhere. i know they have a seemingly talented bunch in the minors. but nothing is guaranteed. you have one of the best sp's in baseball who you will likely lose after next season, and you may have just wasted your last chance to win with him. Harris shouldn't go anywhere. He is generally good at his job. I'd like him to be a little more aggressive this off-season. Who knows how long it will be before they get another chance after Skubal leaves. It could happen fast given their system, but you can't count on it. Edited September 27 by Tiger337 Quote
UCFKNIGHT Posted September 27 Posted September 27 I know managers don't like to see their teams make the first or third out of an inning at third base, but AJ refuses to put any runners in motion. I would have given JHM the opportunity at a steal attempt in the top of the 9th. I know it would have been risky but it would have forced the Red Sox to make a play. Quote

UCFKNIGHT Posted September 27 Posted September 27 It seems like the Tigers have 45 hitting instructors and 50 pitching coaches and right now, none of these guys are doing their jobs.😕 Quote
