gehringer_2 Posted October 5 Posted October 5 AJ Pierzinski turned out the have hit the nail right on the head though. He said trying to hit a HR in extras was usually not a great idea - they won when two guys dialed it back - a walk and single up the middle. 1 Quote
casimir Posted October 5 Posted October 5 My goodness, I’d forgotten how waiting all day for an 8-9pm playoff game on a weekend can be kind of stressful. I’m normally in bed around 9:30-10 during the week. And now adrenaline is going to keep me up. Maybe I should go get some Taco Bell? Quote
papalawrence Posted October 5 Posted October 5 That Carp interview was one of the best I've seen. Enjoyed every minute of that 1 Quote
IdahoBert Posted October 5 Posted October 5 Now the important thing is not to take the game tomorrow for granted just because we have the best pitcher in baseball on the mound. Not that our state of mind has any effect upon this. 2 Quote
StrangeBird Posted October 5 Posted October 5 I‘ve rewatched the Carp HR about ten times now. He absolutely crushed that ball. He has one of the best HR faces. 1 Quote

I just hadn't seen any game where he pitched well. Long ball is probably going to be the continuing problem for him though. The FB has plenty of mustard but he needs to find a way to give it a little more life. Quote
IdahoBert Posted October 5 Posted October 5 I like Keider. He reminds me of guys I knew in Tucson 50 years ago. Kind of takes me back. Quote
JackMorrisStache Posted October 5 Posted October 5 AJ: “We didn’t ‘steal’ the win, we earned it”. Damn straight AJ! 1 Quote
casimir Posted October 5 Posted October 5 So McKinstry knocks in the leading run, then gets the first two outs in the bottom of the inning. Now that I think about it, I kind of wish he’d’ve pitched to Naylor. Why not? He’s been on the bump before. Pitching chaos has plateaued. That would ramp it up a notch. 1 Quote

Skubal gave up a ton of HR’s early in his career. Not saying Melton will be that good, but he’ll likely figure things out. I suspect he’ll be penciled in for the rotation next season. Quote

IdahoBert Posted October 5 Posted October 5 I’m still flabbergasted. 48,000 people against us in the stands. Standing and going wild from the first inning. All the announcers consigning the team to doom. Then sending everyone home with their tails between their legs. Quote
JackMorrisStache Posted October 5 Posted October 5 1 minute ago, casimir said: He’s right, and I apologize for calling it a steal. One of the reporters asked AJ how it felt to steal the game…. I agree that they earned it, especially when you’re the underdog, everyone is picking against you and you’re in a hostile environment in a do-or-die situation. Hopefully the momentum rolls into Sunday and the guys play with even more confidence knowing Skubal is on the hill. 1 Quote

StrangeBird Posted October 5 Posted October 5 Only two more games in Seattle at most, and the Mariners would face Skubal in both of them. Quote
SoCalTiger Posted October 5 Posted October 5 Well that was a MOST enjoyable night out at the sports bar. Just wish it was in Detroit or Seattle but winning today with Skubul tomorrow we might just take this series. Such Fun. What a resilient bunch !!! YaHoo. Quote
Jason_R Posted October 5 Posted October 5 Claude AI says teams that win the first game of a best of five series on the road win the series almost 75% of the time. 1 Quote
Shinzaki Posted October 5 Posted October 5 I'm good with Javy having a 90 something OPS + if he's going to play SS like that... Quote
IdahoBert Posted October 5 Posted October 5 It was great sharing this game with my fellow morans. 1 Quote
papalawrence Posted October 5 Posted October 5 What a difference a week can make! The Tigers are the first team in history to lose their final 5 regular season series, and then go on to win a playoff series. And now anything can happen Quote
