Retain Flaherty,

QO to Torres and see what we can work out

Go get another bat...

Work on the extension to Skubal soon to shut down all the other fan bases from flooding my inbox with AI slop trades.

I’m such a dope. I keep checking this site and other news sources to see “if anything‘s happened!“

It’s like I’m a kid and even though Thanksgiving itself is weeks away, when my parents are gone I contemplate sneaking around the house trying to find Christmas presents hidden somewhere.

I never really did this because I was worried I’d find a box of socks or something and get real sad.

I hope Scott and Chris get us more than socks this off-season, and some indication of this occurring sooner rather than later would be welcome.

He'll get us more than socks.  Maybe some pajamas.

wonder if a Dingler extension is on the table? he started a bit late; he is 27; 5 more years of control has him hitting FA at 32 in 2031. catchers take a beating so who knows where the bat is then. 7-year deal buys out 2 FA years and sets him up for life

Probably not. Not reason to risk a fluke and getting stuck with a long contract. He’s cheap just take it year by year

Yes, it would be awesome if we didn't just get sock or even worse a carton of smokes.

I would not extend him any time soon.

Agree totally.  If he was 22, then maybe, but they have 5 years before they need to worry about FA.  By that time, who knows how the many catchers we have drafted (and Liranzo)  will look like.  No reason to lock in Dingler now.

McGonigle or Clark on the other hand, I could see them trying to sign shortly after they’re up.

I don't even know that extending a catcher after his rookie season would be a good idea, unless he were at least Bill Freehan-level or higher, and we're talking maybe among top twenty in history. And even so, too many bad things can happen to catchers along the way, much more than any other position.

Do not resign Flaherty.  Hopefully, he opts out.  He doesn’t have much left in the tank.  Sign a good #2 free agent starter and a decent 4th or 5th starter.

See Avila, Alex (or Nokes, Matt)

#1 target  -- EDWIN ****ING DIAZ.   He had his injury already.

Others.   - Go after Bregman again, but I still think he never wanted to sign here.   But at least kick the tires.

Bo Bichette - consistent hitter.   If it wasn't for the one bad year he'd be a career .300 hitter.

Forget Kyle Schwarber.  Power hitters don't want to play at Comerica.  I think it's the main reason Bregman didn't want to come here.

Sign one of the following  Fromber Valdez, Ranger Suarez or Lucas Giolito.

It seems like this year there are maybe 12 really good FA and then it drops and drops quickly.

If they can get Geyber back at a reasonable price, then do it, but look elsewhere first.   If they sign a third baseman they have a lot of different 2b options.

But I feel like Scott Harris is the baseball equivalent of Steve Yzerman -- no bold moves.    And that makes me think ownership is controlling everything.   Do what you can do, just don't spend.

TBF, it's just as likely Ilitch hired someone who thought like he did so he wouldn't have to control everything.

I am fine with an extension. The catcher risk would be baked in.

Dingler's already under control for the next five seasons, so, what kind of extension do you want to see?

Today my gut tells me Harris will make the biggest splash in the bullpen. There are some big names out there. I also think he'll sign at least 2 SP but no big splash. Something along the lines of Lorenzen, Gallen level. Maybe make a run at Bieber. But not a Cease level guy. I don't see any huge splash on position guys, not with several on the verge. Smaller splashes.

Tonight I likely will have mexican for dinner, so there is a likelihood that my gut will speak differently tomorrow

I think Harris will at least kick the ties on Cease. The main problem with Cease is, even though he strikes out guys at a clip closer to Skubal than to literally the rest of the entire staff, he's also wild around the plate.
