I hope it isn't that. I just don't think anything associated with socialism is a big winner with the center of the electorate. It plays on Blue Sky and in social media circles. I will need to look and see if there is anything empirical that backs this up. Are there examples of DSA's winning or overperforming in statewide general elections in purple states?

Aes isnt DSA so that litetature wouldn't be relevant.  He also isnt a socialist so that wouldnt be relevant either.

Hes quite progressive for sure so perhaps progressives in purple states would be apt.  Maybe those who support Medicare for All would be even more apt.  Endorsed by Bernie in the primaries might also work.

My hypothesis at the moment is that al Sayed's nomination was a mistake and it increased Rogers's chances. I am open to seeing how that plays out.

IDK. From a conventional wisdom/triangulate the moderates standpoint I can't argue with this, but on the other hand candidates win elections and El-Sayed has some candidate skills. He *should* be able to run circles around Rogers in any kind of debate - so yeah, we'll see.

And as expected Mike Lindell is complaining about election fraud (within his own party)

Quote

Mike Lindell, the CEO and founder of MyPillow, is refusing to concede Minnesota’s Republican gubernatorial primary.

Lindell, who was endorsed in the race by President Donald Trump, lost to state Rep. Lisa Demuth, the speaker of the Minnesota House of Representatives.

With more than 95% of the expected vote in, Demuth led Lindell 43% to 32%.

You can be caught talking about ending Thanksgiving, no matter your reasoning for it. That just doesn't jive with the average voter, Democrat or Republican. Hong isn't as strong a candidate as other progressives/leftists like Tammy Baldwin from her own state or Zohran or AOC. She doomed herself with a poorly run campaign and bad messaging.

Interesting dynamic with a lot of Wisconsin voters who participated in the battle of Minneapolis.  I guess they voted for Hong.  The amount of anger out there was strong.

I do not want to defend that Miller character, but I am at the age where most of my friends have kids, and they seemingly always post bath tub/naked pics of their kid around that age? Unless it is something much less innocuous, it seems... normal?

I am curious how this plays with Bernie Moreno and if a schism results.

so here is the Wisconsin breakdown. Milwaukee and Madison are self-explanatory, but what's the DSA strength in Green Bay about?

The Packers are themselves a quasi-socialist organization that is owned by the people of Green Bay. I know that has nothing to do with it, still interesting though.

Fox came out with a poll showing a 51-47 Rogers lead.

I'm in the bubble so I will be interested to see the polling.  I did have some D Jewish friends reply to my wife's IG story that he's an anti semite and will throw the seat to the D.  So there's that to battle with.

Your former GOP self is showing.  Throw it to the D?

Yes.  I have heard him in front of an audience saying he love Jews, he loves Judaism, he disagrees with the Israeli government.   That's good. But he needs to say that in front of a bunch of Jews and also a bunch of Arabs and Muslims.  He's said it before but now that he's the guy it has to be said on a bigger stage.

Where I get and have been uncomfortable is when they use the term Zionists.   The analogy I've used is that sounds too close to "I don't hate black people just n******"

Given Gaza and other matters, a lot of people have beef with the expansionist acts of the State of Israel.  That's the work of zionism in its extreme form.  I realize you can't ask people to have this degree of nuance when Foxnews or their fellow travelers are out there waiting to pounce.  For many, the Zionists are just the people who escaped from Treblinka and Auschwitz and they deserve their little homeland.  Whereas to many, Palestinians are greedy Yassir Arafat and his innumerable Swiss bank accounts.

And when talking about Oct 7, they bring up what's happening in Lebanon and then Gaza and the Palestinians... it's like misdirection.  And there's always a couple of extremists embedded among the reasonable people to muddle it all up.  "Yeah but what about...."
