Went down the rabbit hole of City of Livonia City Council election results from this past Nov 4.

Most notable things to me...because they were all "No Party" is the high, high absentee number (Livonia has become a retirement home) and extremely high vote totals (Livonia almost votes at 85% rate of total population and of the voting age population it has to be an extremely high number). 

Numbers rounded to simplify math for my sluggard math skilz

Total pop: 95k

Total vote: 80k 

• Total absentee vote:  55k
• Total day-of vote: 25k

Not relaying any of this as a revelation about trends or anything but that high participation number was really interesting.  I'll take a look at another Detroit suburb or two and compare later today.

There has been a lot of reporting on southeast Asian organized crime abducting people (a lot of people being kidnapped from China) into performing these scams. (One I read on NYT had before and after satellite imagery of one of the compounds from 2020 and 2025 in Myanmar). It's downright fascinating, and I wouldn't be surprised if there was a similar deal given the strife in East Africa.

Welp, my "catching up on Somalia" session just now showed that we cut off aid to Somalia earlier this year which killed some anti-terror initiatives allowing al-Shabaab to grow and thrive...
