Sports_Freak Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago 8th inning Will Vest? Huh...I guess we need to see him keep failing so the stat guys can't say his splits show he's not just good in the 9th inning. Quote

I could see when he had the closer role, he might let up in a non-save situation. But he's not the closer now, so what is your explanation? Quote

IDK, but i thought we saw this same thing in previous years, I never knew his splits didn't show it. I guess maybe a few multiple run 9th innings made it appear the same as 7th and 8th inning failures of only giving up a single run or two? Quote

Motor City Sonics Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago The Tigers are probably the worst team in the majors right now. Quote
SoCalTiger Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago 4-9 Yikes. Good thing a homestead and Paddock on the mound for Miami awaits them. Quote
IdahoBert Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago Well, I don’t have the energy to blame the team. I blame myself for investing so much of my personal happiness in something as ephemeral as a sporting event or team. Yes perhaps I’ve been wrong to blindly follow the socially constructed manias about sports to which I was exposed as a child. Maybe I should test these manias analytically, through experimentation and a “scientific method.” Maybe this scientific method could be extended to other fields of learning: the natural sciences, art, architecture, navigation. Perhaps I could lead the way to a new age, an age of rebirth, a Renaissance! Naaaaaahhh! Quote
Sports_Freak Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago So...when does the Lions training camp open? Quote

Or maybe Hinch was only using him in the 9th when he was throwing well or when there was a good match up. So, maybe he did do slightly better in the 9th, but was it the chicken or the egg? Quote
kdog Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago Would guess Wenceel gets the call with Parker in the concussion protocol. Quote
gehringer_2 Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago There was always the chance that the real Tiger team was the team we saw in the September and the team we saw in the 1st half was the one not playing to its mean level. Keith seems to be the only guy that has started the season hot and he doesn't hit for the kind of power that can help carry a team past other guys' underperformance. Quote

I can’t believe that this power outage will continue for much longer. Quote
GalagaGuy Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago When it comes to hitting, it feels like the Tigers strategy is to assume those who underachieved last season will be better next season and those who overachieved will continue to do so. Quote

Hinch constantly re-iterates that he is always telling his hitters to "get a good pitch to hit". Well what if you don't? A major league pitcher can easily throw you 3 pitches in the zone and none of them are going to be 'good to hit'. So you just give up any AB when you don't get a cookie? How is that controlling the zone? You can win a lot of games waiting for mistakes when you are facing bad pitchers, but what about when you aren't? If you make it 'defend the K zone until the pitcher makes a mistake' that means you have to have a real defensive two strike approach with a short stroke to keep fouling pitches off. Do we see a lot of Tigers with that? Riley does say he's trying it. Edited 41 minutes ago by gehringer_2 Quote
IdahoBert Posted 41 minutes ago Posted 41 minutes ago I wasn’t watching the game when the collision between Parker and Riley occurred. Wow Parker’s in the hospital overnight? Quote
monkeytargets39 Posted 34 minutes ago Posted 34 minutes ago I heard this somewhere and I thought it was a pretty good take: The Tigers hitters come up to bat as though they haven’t been watching the at-bats before them. Quote

Wow Parker’s in the hospital overnight? well, he was bleeding from the mouth, couldn't move his left arm, and appeared to be concussed - any one of those could rate a night of observation I suppose. He was not in a good way when he finally got up. Edited 28 minutes ago by gehringer_2 Quote
